SJU Portal Targets

I looked at minutes of last years roster and this years roster to date about ten days ago. I came away with room for one more 20 minute plus guy. That included 20 per game for Wilcher and 15 for Dunlap. Now if it’s a guy plus Ledlum that would be crowded, and if also included Dingle it’s a Huntington bound LIRR train after a SJU game.

Some perspective on measurements:

Norchad Omier from 2023 G League Elite camp measurements: 6'5" 1/5 without shoes, 6'11" 1/4 wingspan, 254 pounds.
Dillon Mitchell from 2023 NBA Draft combine: 6'6" 3/4s without shoes, 6'10" wingspan, 193 pounds.
Jamir Watkins from 2024 NBA Draft combine: 6'5" without shoes, 6'10" 3/4s wingspan, 211 pounds.
An oldie but a goodie. Jerry Kraus explaining the "short neck" and the importance of wingspan.

Jerry Krause explained that Brand had a short neck and that a long neck is wasted height in basketball. Brand in reality can play like a 611 player despite measuring just over 68. The Chicago Bulls then drafted Brand first overall, and he has had easily the best career of any player from that draft class. - Source: https://www.draftexpress.com/article/A-Historical-Look-at-the-NBA-Pre-Draft-Measurements-2912/ ©DraftExpress

Again everyone plays with shoes

Scott signed.

Dunlap is the guy who will feel this crunch the most. Luckily his dad gets it the most of any parent since he's literally in it professionally as well.

Dunlap will have to hit shots to play pivotal minutes this year & have a pathway to big minutes the year after. Shooting will remain a question mark on this team no matter who we realistically sign next, so he should still have a role. But the pressure is on...
competition is good.

Watkins is very good, but he is a three. He is going to look to expand his perimeter game if he goes back to college — and he already spends a ton of time out there.

If we land him, some guys are going to have put the team ahead of themsleves to make it work.

If they are willing to do that, a frontline of Watkins-Scott-Luis could be insane with Smith/Wilcher and Richmond on the court to get more rebounding.
Watkins is guy I wanted from beginning but didn’t look like would happen.
Zuby, Watkins, Scott token starter, Richmond, Smith

Luis token 6th man
USC kid, Wilcher, Glover, Dunlap

One of Dunlap/ Glover gets removed once BE starts

That is a fun team and a tournament team.

How far depends on if Dunlap and or Glover can provide some outside shooting.

Don’t see Watkins in any mocks right now. Y2 is as tuned in as we have. So if he says we’re pushing hard there is definitely truth to it regardless of how it turns out

Trilly also said, "I’ll check in. Watkins was the last of the three targets for that spot so no doubt they’re going hard after him."

Did Scott sign? If not, wouldn't shock me if he starts having second thoughts if a player like Watkins comes aboard. Also think Dunlap is gone after this year if that happens. But worry about that when it happens and let's go all in on this season.
Scott signed. Like you said, worry about that stuff later. Not sure how any of the signing would impact Dunlap for the following year.

Liotopoulos can shoot as well.

I'm curious as to thoughts on how timing of Ledlum/Dingle TRO application impacts signing of Watkins (and/or someone else)? In other words, if another forward is signed before a decision on the TRO is rendered, would that mean that Ledlum would transfer to another school (and Dingle will be playing professionally in Europe or somewhere else)? On the other hand, if Ledlums prevails on the TRO before another forward is signed, I would think it's unlikely that Watkins or another forward will be signed. Yes, I'm asking for speculation -- thankfully, there's no doubt that CRP and staff have this planned out. Thanks!

Didn't they bring in Wilcher last year with no scholarships left? It's all about the NIL.

Much like “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”, every ST John’s recruit can shoot until they get in a game.
e.g.
Lyuk, Lyson, Mussini, Milhaven, Avery Patterson, Broadnax and Dunlap.
you left out Mullin and Bootsy Thornton
