I think the notion of "not too worried about his shooting" and in general the entire team's less than stellar collective shooting is just coach speak...for now.

Obviously we know the staff will have individualized, carefully curated plans for each player, as Coach Walsh told me on the last podcast we did together. I'm also sure the players who aren't "great" shooters are hyper aware of it and working on it this summer, daily. Once guys get all together on campus and in the gym in July I believe the staff will go full speed into implementing improved form/attempts of getting rid of hitches in shots etc.

Coach Pitino's famous story of turning Donovan Mitchel into a shooter by making him stand in front of the basket and working his way back slowly will likely be implemented in some form for a lot of the guys.

And the hope is Rick has war stories of success like Donovan's to tell about our guys one day.

I know the hope is to get Mitchell on campus soon, they've been working on it for a while I believe. He has NBA level athleticism and a strong defender, you don't say no to a talent like that. So use the summer to do 2 and 3 a days and work on that offense. I'm excited for how things will come together. It's a puzzle and we're close to finding the missing pieces and go to work.
Thanks Dave. Let's get Mitchell and end the insanity (with this thread at least lol).

Like to see Zuby, Mitchell, Luis, Richmond and Smith.
Seems like would be fun lineup and possibly worst 3 point shooting team of all time.

That’s what I find so bizarre. Coach P has emphasized the three point shot before it gained the popularity it has today. Yet in his portal recruitment, that aspect of the game was not prioritized? Since I can’t believe that his offensive emphasis has changed, he either was unable to get anyone who could shoot a three at a decent percentage, or believes he can develop the players he currently has into three point marksmen.

Two of the guys he got shot 40% and 37% from last year.

I think the three point shooting is a fair question mark heading into the year, but do think there's plenty of upside/talent already here to make it not be a problem. It does have the potential to swing the other way, but its no guarantee.

Luis shot 34.8% on 1.7 attempts at Umass as a freshman. Smith shot 40.8% last season on 2.5 attempts. Kadary Richmond shott 44.4% two seasons ago on 1.3 attempts and is 33.7% for his career. Simeon Wilcher shot 41.7% on 0.9 attempts last season. Dunlap shot 30.6% on 2.0 attempts as a freshman and was regarded as one of the top shooters in his class. Aaron Scott shot 37% on 3.5 attempts last season and 40.8% the season before.

Lefty is a sharpshooter and I'm sure we could work in some sets for him if needed. Glover can shoot it. Ayo can hit 1/3 from the 4 spot. Even Zuby shot 37.5% (3/8).

The guys who had their worst years will probably get better and the guys who had career years will probably get worse. If defenses pack it in, our okay shooters can become pretty good. If they zone us, we just work though Richmond at the top of the key -- where he's probably at his best.

Olivari 40.9% 7.6 attempts for Xavier. Terry shot 45.2% on 4.0 attempts for DePaul. Shooting is great, but there is a lot more to the game.

Appreciate the Ayo mention! (y)

In the last quarter of last season Dingle appeared to be a deadly shooter from inside the three point line and Simeon shooting from that distance looked good all year. I don’t know their percentages but it seems that players feel they to have to show a three point shot in their game.
Instead of the quick three work the ball inside to get a better shot for two points which SJU seemed effective at. Players should play to their strengths instead of proving they can make threes.

Dingle would be great from deep with a drive and kick PG like Smith. Dunlap could be a budding star.

Yes. Good facts.

But in Big East games last year we were 130-399 (.326). Our opponents were 146-434 (.336).

I never thought that a Pitino´s team would score and attempt less 3 points than the opponents.

not to throw off topic too much, but i think getting more games at CA will help with 3s. those are our home rims, and to your point, guys will have months of summer work outs at CA. more games at CA has plenty of advantages.

It seems like Dunlap is getting a little too much love. Are the fans just dying to get a shooter that can shoot a la Billy Hoyle?
