SJU Portal Targets

It's hard to overpay when you are a mid-sized oil and gas company (St John's) bidding against Exxon (UNC, Kentucky, Baylor, etc) for the same prospects.
Earlier this off season it seemed like St Johns could actually compete NIL wise due to Repole and others helping. As the off season has progressed, it's become obvious how much more money many of the power schools have.

Would Scott take us out of a chance to land Koby Brea; and if we got Vincent would that end a shot for Dillon Mitchell?
Guessing NIL$'s might be an issue at that point?

I personally donā€™t think Scott and Brea would have much overlap or preclude each other.
Not sure Brea has much interest in SJU, since he has a lot of more promising options.

Vince coming aboard likes precludes us from needing to hit the portal for a big next offseason which is good but itā€™s definitely a weird fit for this coming season. I donā€™t know if a Zuby/Vince platoon would be good enough to compete at the top of the league this season even if the big money is spent elsewhere.

Iā€™m not sold on Zuby getting minutes at the 4 at all so just makes for a weirdly crowded 5 position if a starting caliber big is reeled in from the portal soon. Vince would be a great candidate for a redshirt season but obviously that wouldnā€™t happen.

Scott would be solid. Can play the 3 and 4 and while not a star, provides a little bit everything that teams need peripheral players to contribute. Defense, shooting, rebounding etc.

Doubt anybody wants to pay out NIL to a redshirt under this climate. Would have to be a real project that couldnā€™t command much NIL at all. 1713480017256.gif

Roach is the transfer equivalent to Boogie or Ian Jackson. We ain't getting those kinds of kids unless Repole legit outbids.

We need to get realistic.

If a top transfer hits he isn't coming to SJU
Let's be realistic but not fatalistic. Sure, we'll never have dollars to compete with schools like Kentucky, Arkansas, UCLA, Kansas etc. never have and never will. But we can sure compete with schools like Creighton, Marquette, PC, Xavier etc. who are all doing just fine in recruiting/transfer world.
