SJU Portal Targets

Thought you said numbers being thrown around were made up??
Numbers are being fabricated for the purpose of pinning teams / coaches / GMs against each other. These high end kids all have agents, and they are treating these college kids like NFL players during free agency visiting the Browns, Texans, Vikings and Jets. Conversations start before they go into the portal and literally go "Team X has 450k for John Smith, can you beat it? We're talking to Team Z and Y later today"

Agents / Handlers whoever are using social media guys with influence to share these numbers to create smoke screens and the illusion of "the market" for not only their player but players who are in their tier so to speak. It's happening this off-season even more than last and until the NCAA gets guard rails up, it will only continue. And staff's will have to adapt, die, or flounder in the middle.

Feel like this would be a spacing issue. I don't think Osobar is some one we are pursuing seriously.

Osobar is a true post player who is best down on the block getting a ton of touches and posting up. He's not someone that can spread defenses out by playing on the wing.

We should have made the tournament this year if not for the blatant discrimination of the Selection Committee with regard to the Big East. I don’t think we need a whole different caliber of player though. What we need are players who better fit what Coach Pitino wants to do. There are currently over 800 players in the portal. We have a great staff and we have enough of an NIL budget to be competitive for a whole host of quality players. We are not going to land every player we target. We are going to get out bid for some players by some school who has donor who’s just willing to throw money around. But, as long as we get quality players who most of all better fit Pitino’s system we’ll be fine and I believe we’ll be in the tournament next season. I believe we have the staff and enough NIL money to do that. This is just going to take a while to shake out.
In simplest terms, we return an excellent staff, returnees have to abide by off season proscribed training/development program & improve. Lastly, the roster has to be better than last year. Obviously you can’t leave it to chance and go to war with same level of talent and chemistry and assume better results.

I’d take Amari Williams in a heartbeat if he’s ready to commit and Cliff isn’t. Good overall player and with Zuby and Maker here would be more than fine at center. I also won’t ball like some are at Krissa who started at PG for 2 years for Arizona. He might not be the best defensive player around but he’s got offense covered and would be a spark plug like Daniss was.

Amari is visiting next week. Hypothetically if they can get a commitment there quickly, I wouldn't be surprised if they say "yup this works" and let Cliff plus his demands go. (For the record I'm a big big fan of Amari, and I think he would be a great fit here. I love how he passes the ball and he's obviously a defensive wizard)
Dave can you give us a sense of who is lined up to visit in the next week or so? Cliff? Amari? WVa/Ariz Pt. Guard? Who else? Power forward? Thanks

Agree with bird in hand comments re Amari Williams and Cliff. I have confidence staff won’t allow themselves to be victimized in Cliff free agency situation too much longer. Cliff would obviously help with rebounding, defending, but realistically he is not Hakeem O on scoring end.😇

So to follow on with your example...let's say the $450k offer from Team X is completely fabricated. But Team Z doesn't care whether it's real or not, they have a boatload of NIL $$ and they want this player nailed down. So they say, fine, we'll do $550k.

That IS the market. It's not an "illusion." Whether it was based on an agent originally fabricating a number or not is irrelevant.

If that's how you want to believe it. But it creates a dangerous precedent

What's there to believe? If teams out there are armed with tons of NIL and are willing to accept the agent's word at face value--which of course will be inflated--so be it. Dumb money sets the price in lots of markets.

Kriisa is first tomorrow. Amari Williams and Aaron Scott is likely next after that. I believe the hope is Cliff and Trey Towsend after those, and then probably like 4-5 more that I can't mention / haven't materialized fully yet.

Krissa is a terrific player. Tough AF... he will knock down open 3, put ppl in right position and get in your face if your not. Wipe out last yr... he would be a great first domino to fall. As for Cliff yes i said he was done. He was. I can nor will say anymore that anything is done. Ever. Had a kid commit yesterday and last sec new coach comes in and doubles offer. Cliff had an offer he was accepting here. He now has higher offers. This will continue to happen. Where he ends up no idea..SJ still very much in play. Apologies for misinformation...lesson learned
No worries '79! Thanks for your solid insights on the Wild West! Lol.
