Unless an NIL cap is implemented, the pool of programs capable of winning a national championship will continue to shrink.

Except for a very small number of college athletes, NIL recipients bring negative ROI to businesses that engage them. Unlike a pro sports team owners, NIL donors do not have a profit incentive, only the satisfaction of helping their favorite college team be competitive.

The numbers of so staggering it's hard for our fans to really consider what it takes to be competitive NIL. Rick came up with am idea of a 100 man team of donors each contributing $10,000. I'm pretty sure we don't have 100 individuals willing to donate that much on top of donations to the university. Even then, that's only $1 million, and very quickly top programs are ratcheting up budgets past $3 million to $5 million. How long before that becomes $7-10 million?

Like small market pro sports teams, it is difficult to sustain success. In college, commitments are only 1 year, which makes it far more difficult than mlb which has a wait period to enter free agency, and multi year contracts to keep budgets manageable. Here, a.mid major stat emerges and he has to leave for major NIL income.

The NCAA must get ahead of this by implementing meaningful change, but i seriously doubt they will.
The NCAA is an aged monopoly that has rotted from within. It is a hollow shell managed by incompetent bureaucrats. It will cease to exist within 3-4 years.

Would you rather have two of three guys like Conway level? Portal has not been open for 6 months lol
Heck no. I believe I read almost every post on the 105 pages. If I were a psychiatrist I’d have a pool of patients to chose from on this board. To your point, it’s only been a few weeks, with one of them being a quiet period. I have unconditional faith in Pitino.

I have conditional faith in Pitino. Other than that, I agree. ;)

I think in a few more weeks we’ll all feel better that staff is putting together a roster to compete well in the BE and dance.

Pitino did not take this job to tun down NIT bids every year. Too many SJ fans imo feel entitled to land elite kids immediately because of Rick. Imo, despite being lost in the desert for 24 years w/o a Dance win, I just appreciate it is more likely than not Pitino puts us in a position to make real noise post season.

Remain of the opinion that it will take more than one more year, but we shall see. Not impossible but miles to go from here to there.

They can't cap NIL. What they can do is to stop the fraud involved in it. No more collectives or things like that. Yes, hire an agent. If said agent gets you a TV commercial or print ad and you get paid for it, great. Have a paid autograph session, fantastic. Get paid for your likeness being used in a video game, absolutely. That's what NIL was supposed to be. Not what it has devolved into now where it is just a fraudulent scam where boosters pay players and get nothing outside of basketball performance in return. The pay for the on the court activities was still supposed to be the players scholarship and not NIL.

Sorry, rant over

Wonder if an agent can become a NIL contributor, with the premise that I'll pay your NIL if I can become your agent when you declare for the NBA?

Also remember the type of kid Pitino historically recruits. He wasn't a 5 star merchant like Calipari. Obviously transfer portal changes everything but I do agree with the sense of entitlement. I am confident the staff is taking all the lessons learned from this time last year and applying them.
