Former Auburn star Mustapha Heron has transferred to St. John’s, due to his mom’s failing health. Heron applied for a hardship waiver. NCAA is treating this legit request like it’s Edward Rooney. Quit wasting legal fees for all and grant Heron the waiver!

To that end, have heard from knowledgeable people that there is no way that Heron should not get the waiver. His situation IS totally legit with reams of documentation. I do believe he will be playing this year. But we are not North Carolina, Duke, or Kentucky so we shall see.

Agree that this one looks like it should be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, when I think of the NCAA I think of the words "arbitrary & capricious". Let's hope for a little sanity this time.

I agree, and I think you are being a gentleman in your description. Let’s hope any political bias at the NCAA is curbed by the scathing publicity that would be inevitable should they turn Heron down.

NCAA = The Notorious Capricious Arbitrary Association...(had 'Neurotic', but 'Notorious' for double standards seems more apt.)
Hopefully SJU stamp machine not broken & waiver paperwork has been sent. You never know. :)
Heard they gave the envelope to a stray dog that hangs around CA and told him to bring it to the post office. They are still awaiting word from the NCAA. :silly:

Tobias Harris also retweeted Bilas’ tweet and showed his support, so hopefully the word spreads and the NCAA doesn’t have a choice but to grant the waiver.

Who is Edward Rooney and are we actively recruiting him?

Our staff needs to continue to work their connections in the media to publicly pressure the NCAA on this. I always thought it helped with Orlando Sanchez, and Bilas was one of the main voices against the ncaa on that.

The only Ed Rooney I know is the principal from Ferris Buellers Day Off

The NCAA may take its sweet time on this, because it's us and not the likes of Duke, KY, or Carolina.
But all aspects of this case screams for approval to the hardship waiver.
This is where the sports media can weigh in, expose the real need for the Heron family, and shine the light of day on the NCAA.
Mustapha's request is a 'model' case: genuine hardship--his mom's health, and a plaintiff who is an above-average student and a stud athlete who led his team the previous two years and is transferring and requesting a hardship waiver to play next season solely because of his mom's health.
The variables couldn't scream out more for fairness and the appropriate decision.
Slam dunk at the buzzer.

This kid has enough problems worrying about his mom. The last thing he needs is to have time on his hands and not play basketball.

Good point JoV, and is an interest one to consider for the NCAA. Not sure if they do consider the down time for this type of transfer. One could argue that it will allow him more time to spend with his mother. Others could argue that staying busy with basketball would be more therapeutic.

True time on one's hands often stressful, unproductive, depressing HOWEVER
MH can practice/attend games which would give him something to do.

Let’s hope that the Individual from St. John’s submitting Mr. Heron’s Petition to the NCAA for an eligibility waiver does not adopt the above placid argument.

The Heron Petition for an eligibility waiver is not the time for someone not experienced with dealing with the NCAA to attempt to gain experience.

Come now Otis
Of course we all want him eligible - and of course we must have an experienced representative - but if not granted eligibility and for the kid’s best interests - being in and around the team is the best alternative.
It’s called seeking the best alternative and then acceptance - not placidity.
All the best Mr. Heron!

He could also take a full challenging schedule of classes

Just kidding.
