Indyredmen97, seems like we heard very little from you this past year. Hope we hear more from you this coming season.
Thanks redken. This past year was particularly painful. My mother lost her lifelong battle with heart complications while spending time with my father in Puerto Rico, days before Hurricane Maria ravaged the island. It's why I'm particularly sensitive to Mustapha's situation and reason for coming to St. John's. If this young man wants to move closer to home to spend time with his mother, and his mother wants him to continue to attend college and play basketball, I'd be more than happy to argue his case a few blocks over at NCAA headquarters pro bono if asked by the school and the young man to do so. In the meantime, I hope he gets to spend time with his mother and enjoy these years as best as possible. As for this website, know that while I don't post frequently, I come here often for the simple pleasures of distraction, and quite enjoy some of the online battles of our diehard fans. But this thread isn't about me, its about Mustapha Heron, and I'm very happy he chose our school and program. Welcome Mustapha!

I think I speak on behalf of the entire board when I say " our deepest sympathies to you and your extended family."
May you all be spared further sorrow.
We may bicker and squabble about everything under the sun but at the end of the day we are family and do care for one another.
G d bless your mother's soul and may she rest in peace.

Real sorry to year about your Mom.Please accept my sincere sympathy
usguard, it was Indyredmen97's mom, not mine, who passed away this past year. I'm sure he appreciates your sincere sympathies on her passing. (My own mom died a few years ago, so like many other posters, I too know how painful that can be, even though I was very blessed to have her in my life for many years.)

Dear Indyredmen97
Thank you so much for opening your heart and sharing your heartache and your obvious love and connection with your mom and dad. Blessings to each of you and I hope your mom is in a better place.
As countless poets and spiritual guides have expressed, love is indeed precious but bittersweet as well. Death is the mysterious equalizer.
While I am fortunate to still have my 92 year old mom, I rue the day when I get that call that she has passed away. But this is not about me but about your heartfelt post, and yes, about our warm welcome to our newest member of our Red Storm family.
All the best Mr. Heron in the classroom, on the court and with your mom.
Thanks again Indyredmen97.

He said this during Big East Shoot Around last night. He was also careful to add that most talented doesn't always mean best. It will take good coaching and chemistry to realize that potential.

So true.
Often, the best team 'on paper' struggles.
It's a team sport. Egos have to cohere and form a whole unit.
Let's go Johnnies.

Fwiw, common opinion from some hoops folks is Heron hardship appeal could take some time, with a September, October time frame. We’ll see.

If we were Duke, UNC, or Kentucky he would already be cleared. With us, it will probably be denied at the last minute.

As expected. I have a feeling this is going to turn into him being denied, then an appeals process with some public backlash against the NCAA causing them to change their ruling with Heron missing a few early season games.

Well it’s the first day of summer. If he was cleared by the first day of fall that would be fantastic.
The over/under is October 15th.

I'm taking the over.
It depends on how StJohn’s handles the Petition .... if it hires an experienced practitioner who has handled like NCAA applications then I say “under” because the facts support the request.

If StJohn’s handles this Petition in a “Mon and Pop” manner with someone submitting for the first time then Mr. Heron may never get cleared for the coming season. Let’s hope.

I find it very difficult to believe that CM & Staff would allow The Administration to slow-walk the mom & pop route.
They 'get' how critical it is for the season and the 'noise' over 'them' to get this done as fast and smooth as possible.
Pessimism seems unwarranted here imo--i hope!

Jay Bilas;

Former Auburn star Mustapha Heron has transferred to St. John’s, due to his mom’s failing health. Heron applied for a hardship waiver. NCAA is treating this legit request like it’s Edward Rooney. Quit wasting legal fees for all and grant Heron the waiver!

Hopefully SJU stamp machine not broken & waiver paperwork has been sent. You never know. :)

I'm liking Jay Bilas these days.
We need more sports media personalities to speak out about this...and yes, pray that the Staff is making sure the Admin is all over this.

To that end, have heard from knowledgeable people that there is no way that Heron should not get the waiver. His situation IS totally legit with reams of documentation. I do believe he will be playing this year. But we are not North Carolina, Duke, or Kentucky so we shall see.
