Shamorie Ponds

Yikes. Is this in reaction to new news/rumors? Or a reaction to previous posts in this thread?
It's nothing new. Just like I said a few weeks ago. Always something here.
We certainly appear to have more than our share, which becomes magnified because our program has not yet turned the corner in terms of success. But also to be fair, all programs experience this sort of stuff to one degree or another, even the Dukes and Kentuckys etc.
Sure. Kansas has an ineligible player they are trying desperately to get on board. They are still a Top 10 team who the last time they didn't win their conference I was in HS I think. Can't have as many lumps as we have.

No question. Ever think that your existence is just purgatory and that we are St. John's fans to pay for something we did in life?

Every hit we take impacts us so much more than, say, a Kansas or Kentucky or any other program that has not been trying to rebuild for almost 20 years.

Rome wasn't rebuilt in a day. In fact, was it ever rebuilt?

Wouldn’t it be ironic if this 2-game losing streak proves to be a short-term bump, Ponds returns, Keita plays better, Williams gets more PT and proves he belongs, Clark/Simon/Heron/Figueroa fuse into a Ninja-like offensive/defense ‘force’ and we tack a long string of W’s onto our record the balance of the season, stamping ‘take that’ to opponents and doubters?
Maybe that’d be both astounding and ironic.
Let’s hope.

This is one of the many ways God makes me suffer, yes.

HUGE week for St. John's. Huge. And it looks as if there is a pretty good chance they will once again be without Shamorie Ponds tomorrow night.

Miraculous is the word I would use!

Here is a response to BT's tweet, from @PhavrePhan4:

BT is a nice guy, but completely clueless on this one. My sources have already confirmed with 100% accuracy that Shamorie Ponds will play tomorrow. #sjubb

Who is @PhavrePhan4?

I've followed #sjubb pretty closely for about 7-8 years, and I'd be surprised if PhavrePhan4 has any sources. Seems like a random recent alumni who likes messing around on Twitter and getting attention. He's just guessing about Ponds.

My guess is Ponds will play limited minutes, so it's not a bad guess for him to make.

That guy is a blowhard who has a pathological need to brag about how much he knows. I wouldn't put stock in anything he says.

I think Ponds will only play if he can play at a high level. If he is only capable of playing for limited minutes bc of injury, doubt he plays

Maybe. I was thinking more along the lines of him playing limited minutes as a precaution (coming off an injury). I definitely couldn't see him being put out there if he can't perform at or very close to his normal level.

Who knows though, all of it is pure speculation on my part.

Thanks. I had no idea who he was. He seemed confident.

You hinted the other night you heard he wasn't playing for a reason other than injury. Did that blow over?

That was reckless of me to post and I apologize for doing so. There was a rumor going around that Ponds was being held out for a reason other than injury. I think several on this Board have alluded to the rumor. All subsequent indications are that Ponds genuinely hurt his back. But, as Paultz aptly stated, nothing would be surprising at this point. Put another way, until we see Ponds on the court, all bets are off.

This is going to be very interesting, because I figured there would be a real possibility of a key player going down (with our luck), possibly missing tourney, and then there would be a debate at the end of the season. Half the board will say it's on Mullin and 1 player shouldn't make a break a season...and the other half will say we had one of the best players in the nation out for 2+ games, not on Mullin at all.

Again, I hope like hell Ponds or no Ponds we somehow survive at home today, because our tournament hopes are in the balance already. Then hopefully Ponds is ready to go vs. Butler and we continue on where we left off before he went down. This conference is a B, but I'm not one for excuses this year since there are always teams who end up with a good conference record. If they can do it, so can we.I mean, we have the best roster on paper in a down year for the conference. If we can't do it now, can we ever expect a winning season in conference? Yes it's tough but far from impossible and several teams do it every year.
