SHAMORI PONDS DRAFT PROJECTION & SIMON ???
"After getting his blood analyzed, Ponds has changed his diet to fit his body best, cutting out fatty foods. He joked he’s eating “nothing I was eating before.” He’s been working out at his agency’s facility in Irvine, Calif., training and watching film several hours per day."

Kevin Love was a slob at UCLA -- a highly effective one, but a slob nonetheless. Six weeks after his last game he was in much better shape and Bruins fans were pissed. So Ponds' story is nothing new. Guys get more serious when the millions are right in front of their noses, and fans will always be annoyed about previous lack of motivation.

This is just the agent’s fancy way of saying he’s making the necessary changes to be a pro. I highly doubt any prospect is watching film several hours a day. Also analyzing your blood and changing your diet based off of that is overblown. Analyzing blood doesn’t give you any answers as to what your body needs to maximize its potential, just tells you what your current levels are at, which is done at any physical. This is “agent speak”.

Are we really arguing about a college kid’s diet or are we just a—holes that want to crap on a kid because he no longer serves our interest? I’ve checked into this thread a number of times this week because I want our kids to get jobs and want to know their prospects. Instead I read outrage that a 18-20 year old had a bad diet. I try to separate the arguments from the fandom, but this is stupid. Mods should either kill the thread or rename it to old angry guys want to s—-t on a kid that committed and wore our jersey

I take this to be great news for what Shamorie has to do to improve his chances of success as a pro--be it in the NBA or Europe.
And i don't begrudge his timing.
I'd luv to see him get drafted late 1st or mid-2nd at the worst.
Go Shamorie!

Got plenty of exposure. And the trouble w him being a shooting guard in the NBA is his height. Nevertheless,I hope he makes it.

I could be wrong, but the comment 'higher profile' would've been more accurate if it had been stated as 'more successful', because I think that it would be true, Ponds would've performed better at a deeper and better coached team...hence, the team's 'profile', as well as Shamorie's 'rep', would've been higher.
Just my view.
Best of luck to him. That said, I think both Mustapha and LJ will benefit big time from our current coaching staff next season.
Again, just my view.

Interesting take on Shamorie "eating nothing he used to". & Wether it's "agent speak" or not, it's a positive thing that the light has gone on & he's shaping up in time for the combine. Today's Draft Projection from SPORT'S ILLUSTRATED (SI.COM) has him gong in the 2nd Round with pick #56 to the 76er's. A pretty good spot to land with an opportunity to get a lot of "dimes" off the bench. He'll just have to have those PHILLY CHEESE STEAKS in moderation!:)

Hey now! Cheese steaks are good for you! They can contain veggies (onions, peppers or mushrooms if you wish), protein (meat), dairy (cheese) and carbs (bread). Plus all that grease is good for the GI system, as they don’t hang around too long!

.5 taller than I thought. Some of those guys shrank badly.

Typically, most guys are listed as being taller than they really are
I've heard that the "giants" are often listed shorter to not appear to be "freakish"
For example, Abdul Jabbar was listed as being around 7'2"
DeBusschere, listed at 6'6", once swore that Jabbar was easily a foot taller than he was

That is 6 Feet in my book.

Pretty sure it would have been noticeable if Kareem was 7'6". Walton definitely subtracted two inches from his height, though.

He is old enough to know how seriously he should be taking college basketball at this level from a preparation standpoint. At other D1 schools even if they're mid major, you will see guys totally dedicated to the routine including nutrition. I think we can agree that 1) he was not preparing himself as much as he could have and also agree that 2) he is one of the best players we've ever had and we all love him at the end of the day wishing him the best. Don't think there necessarily needs to be "sides" on this one but just my take. IMO it can be nuanced.

“My coaches, the feedback that they got, I didn’t like it, so I pretty much didn’t want to keep my name in,” Ponds said. “I definitely felt I could increase my draft stock and the team was going to be better and we had more team success. I’m all in and comfortable with my decision.”

“My passing has definitely been underrated,’’ Ponds said. “A lot of intangibles to my game will stand out. I’m definitely in better shape. My IQ has improved. I’m an underrated passer. I feel I’m a great passer.’’
Beast, did you get a degree in Mind Reading from Cal Berkeley by chance?
Yea, exactly Mike. That's why I take exception to anyone putting forth the opinion that a player suddenly didn't care about winning or playing hard. I don't know what's in his head, so the depiction of low basketball IQ is based purely on his poor play. Fifteen games into the Big East season fans on here were anointing him among the best players ever to put on a Johnnies uniform. Then he goes in the tank, as his teammates did, and all of a sudden he is a lazy, out of shape, stupid player. So, yea, exactly my point - I don't read minds and neither does anyone.

As far as personal comments by your cohort on here, I can easily be found at RW events, through my involvement at the school, and the relationships I have there. I have season tix and don't hide behind a keyboard.

As you are aware I have no issue with commentary about a player's skills or ability, or that of coaches in the same regard. But you and others are so frustrated by our team losing that you step over the lines to call out players and coaches with personal commentary on their efforts, interest, salary, or whereabouts.

We would both agree last year's edition wasn't coached well enough, and the players didn't play enough. In terms of not caring, Terrence told me that losing eats Chris up. He wasn't covering for him, and he wasn't trying to project something that wasn't there. He was more concerned for how much Chris was taking the poor results over time. HE did say though, once his SJU gig was over, he was done in terms of his career.

I agree with him. He has high NBA level passing skills. He has that intuitive quality that is beyond just showmanship and flash to know where players are even when they are behind him and that quick bullet ability to get it there.
