SHAMORI PONDS DRAFT PROJECTION & SIMON ???

Not getting drafted could be best thing that happens to Shamorie. Will definitely put a chip on his shoulder and a little humility gained might not be a bad thing. Hopefully it makes him work that much harder and as Amase pointed out, Houston should be a very good fit for his talents.
Wish him the best and believe he's got a good shot to become Harden's backup if he works hard to get in top shape over the summer.

Surprised Sham didn’t get drafted. Not based on my opinion, but based on what was being said. Simon may actually wind up being the better NBA prospect. He’s got the size, strength, athleticism and most importantly, attitude and work ethic, to make himself in to an NBA player. I also see Simon as a kid who would love the life experience of playing in Europe. I wish both kids the best in their future endeavors.

Ok, Shamorie didn’t get drafted . It is what it is .. Simon wasn’t ever in the mix as he has limited offensive skills . Playing good D isn’t enough for the NBA ...Just a few comments , only Eric Paschall got drafted in second round . Some take that as the BE not getting quality players . Nova having 4 players drafted last year was a rarity. The NBA Scouting system looks to draft players who fit their physical profile and meet whatever potential criteria they formulate . They don’t much care about College Performance or stats . Oftentimes , their draft picks are bizarre , Frederick Wiest instead of Ron Artest and never amount to anything after their guaranteed contracts expire . I never watch NBA games as it isn’t the type of Basketball I enjoy . Too much holding , grabbing , fouling and soft enforcement of traveling , 3 seconds , etc . The players resemble NFL players size wise and the game is rough and tumble . That is not to diminish the skills that many NBA players possess , just the style of game they play . BE schools don’t get a lot of top 50-60 HS recruits , most go to the large schools , Michigan, Kentucky, Mich State , LSU, Auburn and , of course , Duke . Many as this draft showed are 1 and done players . Looking at this year’s draft , I don’t think any UCLA , Ohio State, Syracuse , Florida Players were selected . Which reveals a lot . Many of the drafted players are like , who’s he? And , getting back to the size and potential criteria , some weren’t significant contributors to their team’s results . But , that’s the NBA way . Good Luck to Shamorie and Justin going forward . The thrills they gave us these last years were admired and appreciated .

If he wasn't going to be drafted in the 1st round, then going undrafted was probably the best case scenario. At least then he had a little control over where he goes to (which is Houston).

It still boggles my mind when players like Ponds and Simon leave early...especially Simon, who virtually had no shot at being drafted. Did they actually think that the college lifestyle was really that bad, that they couldn't stick it out for one more year and at least earn their degree? I understand that for most, it's all about the money. And more than likely they will end up overseas, and will do fairly well for themselves, as I don't think that the G-League offers the kind of life-altering money that they are going after. But they had to have a pretty decent idea going in that playing overseas was their best option, and if that was the case, why not sign with a team as soon as the college season is done and start earning money ASAP?
Yea sorry but this talk of guaranteed 3 year deals for undrafted player is utter BS.

Good luck to him catching on somewhere but he's not seeing 3 years guaranteed.
The reporter who tweeted the information has since deleted it, so who knows what’s going on. Ponds’ agent also deleted their post about Shamorie signing with Houston. Maybe changing their minds?

How about the Hofstra kid getting picked too. Is he better than Shamorie ? Maybe , Maybe not . Anyway , it’s what the NBA teams want , not what us fans want . Good luck to the Hofstra player . Never saw him play .

Simon graduated. Nothing wrong with starting his career now rather than next year.

Seems like an irresponsible thing for an agent to do lol

I brought that point up earlier this week, so of course, I agree. In most cases, you're probably better off not getting drafted, then going somewhere in the 50s. One needs to look no further then our own institution, for evidence of this.

Jakarr Sampson did not get drafted, opted to go to camp with Philly (which was in complete rebuild mode at the time), impressed, and has managed to play in 173 NBA games in his career (basically 2 seasons, and part of a third). No, he's not a great player, but that's more then most of us thought he would do. Conversely, Sir Dom went 54th to Cleveland, when Lebron was still there. Since they basically play the same position, he never had a shot, and never played a game in the league.

That being said, when the Knicks were on the clock at 55, I was hoping they'd take Ponds (that might have been a good fit), but they did what they felt they had to do.

Despite many of us assuming he would have enough credits to do so, Simon did not graduate as he was short on credits.

While advisers "advise", the bottom line is the player makes the decision. Sometimes they are advised to go back to school but their ego and believe in themselves out weighs the advice or they are just plain done with going to school.

Their use to be a rule that if you declared early, weren't drafted and had eligibility left, you could return to school with your eligibility intact. I wonder how many guys (Ponds and Simon not being included) wish that rule was still in affect.? Maybe Luguentz Dort, Moses Brown, Louis King, Naz Reid, Tyus Battle? Some of those who went undrafted, will make rosters and could have some highly productive and lucrative years in the NBA, others could be journeyman and do well while others will wind up overseas (and some could do really well there).

You never know, but I wish them all luck.

The Knicks had already agreed to a trade whereby Sacramento took Ignas Brazdeikis from Michigan (making Redmannorth happy with two Canadians taken by the Knicks) with their 47th pick for the Knicks, while with the 55th pick the Knicks took Kyle Guy from Virginia for Sacramento (some money or future picks were exchanged also I believe). The Knicks have a lot of Point Guards a couple of whom actually have potential (Smith, Mudiay, Tirer) and will look to bring in (and fail) Kyrie (I'd rather have Kemba Walker).

The real kick in the teeth for Shamorie might have been the pick after 55 where the LA Clippers agreed to pick Jaylen Hands, a Point Guard from UCLA, for the team that plays in the Borough that Shamorie grew up and lives in, the Nets.

I think his lack of size was a major factor in teams passing on Ponds. They need metrics to measure his heart. Let's see what develops.

Trier not a point. Hands a tremendous athlete which probably made the difference with Shamorie.

I think it’ll be good for Shamorie to be somewhere other than NYC

Was not aware of that. I lost track of the trades last night, after about trade #50 (seemed like there were that many, anyway).

Nevermind - Andy Katz just answered my question - apparently NCAA approved this rule change but NBA has not yet ratified, so he's officially gone.

Don't think he would have been academically eligible anyway. It was noted he stopped attending classes after the season.
