Seton Hall (UBS), Sun., Feb. 18, 5p, FS-1

Agree regarding Brady as he’s so thin he looks undernourished. However that’s not something that should have been broadcast to the entire world but rather discussed under private quarters unless of course you are trying to put the blame for losing on everyone but yourself.
Everything that is wrong with this team lays at Pitno’s feet. I listened to the whole presser. It wasn’t that bad. He said a kid was slow laterally. And one needs to get stronger. Gosh that is so harsh and cruel.

Absolutely. There are kids on other teams who likely already know they will be here next year and kids on the team this year who already know that they won't be here next year and have a good idea where they will be.
I agree with this 100%. I think Storr was gone no matter what, Anderson, Pitino or anyone. Problem is we didn’t, and were probably never, gonna pony up the *ahem* cash. I’m sure they offered his people something and, obviously, it wasn’t enough.

What he said was not that harsh correct, however, saying something about each of those players and never taking any accountability for a team that scored one basket in 14 minutes of play or who didn’t get their big the ball after he played a very good first half is completely narcissistic at best.

The second half lead blown, The press conference, and the future - the sad reality of where we are in year one under Rick Pitino right now

Also given what a sh**show last year was and by February rumors of CMAs demise pretty rampant I'm sure plenty of schools were in the ears of guys like Storr, Jones & Posh which is why I believe both Jones & Storr were probably as good as gone before Rick was even hired.

Honestly….no. I don’t think naming names to the media is okay. Whether or not what he’s saying is correct or not. You want to rip these guys apart at practice, in the locker room, even the game itself…have at it.

The bigger problem is…if it takes this to get them to show heart, then you definitely recruited the wrong guys. And, therefore, it’s also on him to a big extent.
Had this been 10 years ago I would agree 100% but now some of these kids are being paid upwards of $300k to play this one season. Taking that money means you are accountable and there are clear expectations in which "some" of the players are not achieving.

As I said to rocket, I agree with most of the things he (and you) have written but I’m sticking to the opinion a head coach should never name names to the media. I said yesterday, I don’t recall a coach, college or professional, going up and down his roster and naming the player and his deficiency. Just, crazy…

Oh man, it’s great to get press but not like this. I’m afraid this sort of negative pub is going to come back to bite our program in the ass.
Definitely a concern. I am choosing to put on my rose-colored glasses and believe it means any kid who comes to St. John's next year has the confidence and mental toughness to embrace a hard-ass coach.

I wouldn't say it is just blind faith. Even though I am in "wait and see" mode in regards to next year, I do believe it is clear that Pitino knows him and his staff botched last offseason in regards to personnel. The team doesn't match Rick's coaching style.

I think the reason Rick is so cranky and unprofessional in these pressers (not excusing it, just trying to understand it) is he knows this roster isn't going to cut it and he is just trying to get this over with so he can recruit a roster that matches his desired style.

In that sense, it is more than "blind faith" to think we could be better next year. It is seeing the staff learned a lesson this year and believing they will recruit in a way that corrects it this offseason. I don't think we will have a roster next year that can't stay in front of opposing guards for instance
I think I used the phrase blind faith specifically in regards to having players coming in here next season that are a serious upgrade in talent. I am sure upgrading the talent is a goal of Pitino's, as well as all of the fans here, but how it will play out is anybody's guess.

The Transfer portal is a crapshoot. How many thought this past August that our outgoing portal transfers were going to be more statistically successful than our incoming portal transfers. I doubt there were that many who held that opinion. I guarantee that not one single person thought that David Jones was going to wind up being the sixth leading scorer in the nation or have a higher PPG (22.0) than Dingle, Ledlum and Wilcher (21.7) combined.

I will say that if you are a player like a Jordan Dingle who came here to have the Pitino magic wand turn him into Donovan Mitchell you may think twice based on how this year's group of transfers grew and progressed under his tutelage. Hopefully he will be able to again sell the idea that coming here will enhance your basketball future, but bashing your players for their lack of skills is not the best advertisement for recruiting future talent IMHO.

He wasn't attacking but explaining. He was positive about the future and SJU in general. The comment about the facilities is being taken way out if proportion. Again, he should have said "we" are a slow team laterally which makes it hard to defend. Using names went too far but again it wasn't t an attack.
Thank you!!

They are going to go to the highest bidder. That’s reality

Good point. Kids were already shopping themselves around not knowing who the coach was going to be. Let's face it Jones and Storr are good players, not all stars. I see more potential in Zuby and Brady and Wilcher. Posh, great defense, hardly any offense. Plus he skipped out on practice with coach Pitino to be with his girlfriend. Who cares about Cuerbelo and Pinzon honestly?

Plus I heard on a podcast that when Ledlum and Dingle opted into the portal, their original teams were sad to see them go. That tells you something. The reason why Ledlum left Tennessee? Hmmm? Again I like Ledlum and kid plays every day.

Remember this team was built in less than 3 weeks. So in a month, CMA went, Pitino in, and Rick had to bring in personnel and recruit an ENTIRE TEAM in less than a month. Just think about that—an ENTIRE TEAM with very little scouting. The coaches had to scout like we did, leading scorer here, let's get him, leading scorer there let's get him. etc...

Soriano was all BE had pro aspirations, could have left to go anywhere, stayed only to have his coach rip him all year.

Dingle had pro aspirations comes here only to immediately wind up in Pitino dog house.

If you're Simeon Wilcher, you just heard your coach describe the guys who play in front of you as non-athletic and not tough enough.

How does Wilcher come back next year after hearing that? How can he imagine a future here?

Man....that presser was a flood of emotion and poor judgement. Something I would expect from a young coach, not a HOF veteran.
