Seton Hall (UBS), Sun., Feb. 18, 5p, FS-1

Regardless of whether you think Brady developed, belongs at this level etc., if you’re Brady’s dad and you read Rick’s post game comments would you be leaning to encouraging Brady to return next year? I think that the damage that these post game comments can reflect on retaining players and future recruiting may be significant unless the only thing potential recruits care about is a lucrative NIL deal.
Saying those things publicly about Brady is poor . But , Brady’s Dad is a former Coach and knows exactly where Brady fits in a League like the BE.

Objectively , Brady needs to put on Muscle over the off season . But , any College Coach he would play for , would say the same thing to him .
He was committed to ND before coming here , with their Coaching change but , playing in the ACC , he would need to bulk up too .

Brady will be. 4 year player somewhere but , I am thinking he stays the course here .

He’s over matched right now and Pitino knows it . But, he gets into games because you never know when a long range shooter will get hot .

Brady was so bad yesterday. He is mentally shot. All these players seem to be mentally shot outside of Jenkins. They have 0 confidence in their games.

Hard truth is he came in at a bad spot, there wasn't much available, be specific who did we lose aside from Clayton that might have moved the needle?

Next year, no excuses.
Maybe Mgbako? He is playing regularly for IU now . He’s very physical and has size . He might have helped in the front court . Move the needle ?
Tough to say . Maybe against PC or X?

We tried to get him .

Some on here talk about the substitution pattern, OK who would you put in if everyone you substitute in does not perform?
It’s my only critique of his coaching. Anything beyond that would be a joke for me to criticize a HOF coach.

From any organized basketball I’ve played in life and I think all would agree, you cannot put a player in for less than 2 minutes and then yank him (constantly). He has effectively killed the confidence of several players.

I think part of being prepared is knowing what to expect from your own coach. If I’m coming off the bench, I want to know I’m usually coming in around the 14:00-13:00 and playing X amount of minutes.

His substitution patterns are flat out ridiculous and chaotic to put it mildly. One game you don’t know if you’re playing 18 minutes, 3 minutes or 0 minutes.

Except these "students" are getting paid. Those sitting in a classroom are not. I am not saying at all that Coach should be calling players out by name, he could just say we are a slow team laterally, but comparing these paid athletes to students in a classroom is just not correct.
Had a sociology professor at St. John’s who ended one class by saying “Next time we will discuss the Black Plague and rats. Not my students other rats”. Didn’t like him anyway but for sure didn’t like that comment. Don’t think anyone put in a complaint. Think that comment was worse than anything Pitino said about his players. Maybe today that prof gets in a little hot water if a complaint is made but doubt he would get fired.

This team would be a lot better with Storr, David Jones and even Posh and Wusu still here they are far better then most of the transfers we got I think those 4 guys with Soriano , Jenkins , Zuby and I guess RJ and then still take Dunlap and Wilcher still think they will develop if they stay. He let too much of the existing team go so you got what you have a bunch of mid major pieces that don’t fit together. I hold out hope next year with more time he will get better players that fit his style I just still don’t like him ripping the team publicly especially singling guys out and ripping their faults just not a good look.
You must have forgotten that Fr Shanley , Cragg , Macon , etc we’re all in on getting rid of many of last years players. Especially Wusu . Who slugged a team manager .
Do you want that player on your school team ?

The other players , almost to a man, disrespected CMA in games during time outs .
Plus , the team was infected by that nut job , Curbelo .

It’s not all that uncommon for a new Coach to want his own players .
Pitino is on record that he wanted certain players , Storr, Posh to stay . They decided not to .
I thought Storr was gone even before the season ended last year . Which means Wisconsin was on him for the Portal Transfer even while he was still playing .

I think Macon was the primary voice in advising Pitino who to keep and who to let go . Along with Shanley and Cragg .

Absolutely. There are kids on other teams who likely already know they will be here next year and kids on the team this year who already know that they won't be here next year and have a good idea where they will be.

Mentally shot????
From playing a couple of games per week?
From the same length of practice time every other college player is going through??

STOP!

I rewatched the game and, if I were the coach, it would be me who was Mentally Shot at the end of the game. Hence Pitino going postal at the presser.

Soriano.......TWO POINTS in the second half. He was indecisive every time he touched the ball and Pitino had to scream at him to get back on defense. Seton Hall is Dawes and Richmond. Without them, game over. They took over the second half and Jenkins couldn't guard both of them at the same time. Dingle and Alleyne couldn't keep up with them. The last two minutes were a sequence of forced shots and being out hustled.
Yes, we lost by six but led most of the game.
As bad as our shooting was in the second half, it was the poor defensive effort that really did them in and that was were all the harse criticism came up at the presser.

The defenders were beaten almost every possession and the lack of lateral quickness is only compensated by better positioning. Better positioning is a product of smarter anticipation. Dingle, Luis, Ledlum and our two outside specialists, Conway and Dunlap, are not savvy or physically gifted enough for that level of anticipation.

Alas, when almost your entire team is composed of poorly fitted parts, all you can do is go back to the tool shed and see if you can smooth some rough edges.
Whether from injuries or natural physical limitations, you will not get much more from players like Alleyne, Dingle, Taylor and especially Soriano.

That’s exactly why Pitino’s lack of self accountability is driving me nuts. We were leading in each of the last four games at half time — including the #1 and #4 team in the country! No one would say we have better talent, but for him to degrade the roster as slow and soft just means he doesn’t want to admit maybe there’s other non-player reasons this hasn’t worked
Pitino worked for Boeheim in the late 70's, which is "dinosaur years" ago. Contrary to what many believe, Boeheim played a lot of man defense at one point during his coaching career. He didn't exclusively go to zone until 1996.

I have no issue with us playing man, but since it seems we don't have the requisite personnel to play it 40 minutes (or 30 minutes a game), then regularly switch between man and zone. Keep the opposition off balance, as well as alleviate or hide a weakness.
Agreed. And stop pressing full court with a very slow team. It only leads to layups and fouls

I'm not saying that this is THE problem with this team but I have found, in general and in my humble opinion, that the younger generation has been corrupted by "participation trophy syndrome". They don't have the work ethic that I was taught by my parents. They have the general attitude that "I showed up, now give me my trophy!" has perpetuated.

I remember going to my grandsons games and I was told that they don't keep scores! Why keep score? They showed up! This perpetuates mediocrity, lack of effort and a lax attitude.

Again, before some of you pile on me for my thoughts, this is not true of ALL of this generation, but this was the "modus operandi" for their generation. This is what they were taught in school and a good portion of them took to this psychology because it was the easiest path for them and kept them from having to make that "extra effort" to succeed.
I’m a child of the 80s and a teenager/20-year old of the 90s…I wanted to win everything I did no matter what it was since I was old enough to run. 2nd place trophies were crap to me. Every other kid I knew (and I’m pretty sure every other kid I competed against) felt the same exact way it seemed. Watching kids now, it certainly does seem different. You can definitely see the kids who “want it more.”

I know it sounds like “hurr durr, get off my lawn, I got your ball” kinda crap, and I’m not getting into what festered that change in the 1st place but I still think Pitino handled this horrendously. Worst of all, I’ve seen no accountability on his part, no self-realization. He definitely has played a part in all this.

How many games have we been yelling for the players to get back on defense on the board?
He is telling the truth the team will not listen and follow directions. They are apathetic and it’s killing Pitno.

Regarding Dunlap.

You guys are acting like a kid his age (yes he’s a friggin kid) can just go *poof* and add 20-30 pounds of muscle like it’s no big whoop. Take it from me, I am 6-foot-7 and when I was his age I looked exactly, EXACTLY, the same as him. I could not shoot like him nor were my fundamentals as up to snuff as his are. I’ve said it before I was recruited to play D-1, my high was 25 in a varsity game, so I understand his plight. I was expected to play on the blocks, unlike him, so my lack of weight and muscle was an even bigger problem in regard to my game. Every coach calling my house wanted to red shirt me, and that was my final straw in regard to playing in college, instant gratification and all.

I ate everything, made shakes, definitely didn’t work out the way I should have (i was a pothead back then :)) but I couldn’t gain a pound to save my life no matter what. I didn’t start really filling out until my early 20s and for perspective even at 47, I’m still at about 225ish, but my constitution for keeping myself in shape is much stronger than when I was 18. All-in-all, Dunlop might not have a choice when it comes to this, I’m hoping he fills out sooner than later obviously, but, push ups, push ups, push ups. His dad is a coach, that’s a gigantic plus.
