@Seton Hall, Sat., Jan. 18, 8p, FS-1

Feels like the difference in this team over the previous decade and a half is that they’ve avoided the 3 or 4 “wish we had it back” kind of losses we tend to see.

There’s been a lot of years were late in the season & either on the wrong side of the bubble or just shy of the bubble saying something that’s the equivalent of, “We would have made it if they didn’t lose to that bad Kansas State team back in November & drop these 2 games against DePaul/Butler/etc”

So far they’ve haven’t lost a game they seemed heavily favored in. This is one of those games. St John’s will have the 4 best players on the court. I know it’ll be tough because of the rivalry & Hall bringing some anti-Kadary juice into the game but we should be able to out-talent them even if it’s another bad shooting night.

Huge difference this year, despite a couple of ooc losses we had a chance to win, in BE play, unlike most recent seasons, we did not dig an early hole we never got out of. This staff and group in workman like fashion is not leaving its post season fate to politics nor scrambling to compensate for the hole we dug.

Great article by Carino, fun read.

I hate Seton Hall more than any other team in our league. I said last year I'd never return to the building, but then Kadary joined and we'll I'm going again. I want their heads this year.

Go Johnnies!
I'm with Dave 1000%.

It's not even particularly great, but we should've had the success Seton Hall had in the past decade+ if a couple of things broke our way. I have found it so frustrating that they were the team that found a way to make tournaments, get under the radar NYC recruits, and frankly find a way to beat us with grittier basketball. I find their fans irritating as well.

With UConn/Villanova/Georgetown, we'll always be somewhat underdogs to them based on resources. I definitely think we can eventually catch up, but that's going to require some lucky things going our way.

Seton Hall? Forget it. I'm still mad at Tiny Morton getting them Whitehead.

We will win by double digits to move to 16-3 (7-1) and we will be ranked on Monday. Hopefully, that's good enough to move us off the bubble in some people's eyes.
No one's saying they're on the bubble, but beating the Kenpom 152nd ranked team isn't going to change anything.

that was something else lol... really crazy to watch... can't imagine what it was like for you guys who Went to the game to witness that Live sitting through it...

Fun article above... its gonna be a tough atmosphere Saturday. Glad to see a lot of you guys are going! Great fans!

I know we've played @Prov/Crieghton/X.... but this the first away game with Students? Need you guys to be loud
I remember sitting next to Sean Conway's Aunt and Uncle. He scored a few points in the first half and the game looked good even when they cut our first half lead a little. The rest was some of the worst basketball I had seen in a while. I liked the UBS games. Easy for me to get to and affordable tickets.

I think biggest rival falls where how old you are. I’m sorry, I still hate Syracuse, UCONN, Georgetown (in that order) the most. As much as I disliked Boeheim, I will always despise Calhoun. I’m pretty sure Hurley would have to murder someone on the sideline for him to surpass Calhoun too. That’s how much I hate that guy. Those 80s and 90s Syracuse teams…ugh.

That was the turning point. Many praised Lavin for not hiring Tiny and maybe morally that was the right thing to do. However look where things are now in terms of what's acceptable versus even then.

Disagree, as the other side of that is losing to the 152 team which changes things greatly. You could argue the Seton Hall games are more important than mid tier teams such as Georgetown and Xavier.

Not my system, and I think it’s stupid, but that is how it works.

Don't call it a must win though. lol

Trust me, unless it’s late February or March that term will never come from me.
It's more making fun of myself because I don't mind using the term for a game like this.

I think Jack was the one who said it, but in a strange way, the Seton Hall games are *arguably* as important as the Marquette/UConn games. Avoid adding a "Bad Loss" to the column is huge. We're in last year if we beat Michigan and BC.

Exactly. Every year for 20+ years I look at the schedule, add up the expected wins and losses, account for the number of potential WTFs in each category, and come up with what I think is a reasonable projected win total. Bearing in mind that my idea of "reasonable" does not stem from cockeyed optimism.

And every year we manage to slip on enough banana peels to wind up 2-ish games behind where we should be (including last year).

So far this year, we are holding serve and maybe even plus a game or so. Huge difference.
