@Seton Hall, Sat., Jan. 18, 8p, FS-1

The first 20 minutes was a defensive clinic - great expansion into passing lanes, very active hands, excellent rotations especially in the paint. The first 10 of the second half was a disinterested looking team, but Seton Hall is not good enough to truly make them pay, and the lead was too large. It was great to see the reserves in the last five minutes pick up the defensive intensity and play well. Nice effort by Aaron Scott tonight, as well as Zuby and a good game for Jaiden Glover in his minutes.

Seton Hall is kinda bad, and it was infuriating watching the dirty play by them hitting guys who were in the air and somewhat defenseless. Take your ass kicking like men, for crying out loud.

Oh, and......

Yes, Sim had another poor shooting night. But he tried to posterize their bigs twice. The ability and gumption to even try that is a quality I really like in a guard. It's what endeared Glover to me even more than his penchant for hitting threes. Come to think of it, it's why I loved Carnesseca guard Ollie Taylor.

Sim clearly deserves to be a mainstay in our lineups. Perhaps his MO is a less than stellar 37 followed by clutch game winning plays in the last 3. A formula I would be on board with that he didn't get the opportunity to show in Jersey.

We were lucky not to have a catastrophic injury on the 2 flagrants. Dangerous, dirty plays. The Pirates eliciting their inner Pistons/Flyers.

The Mormon shouldn't have played last night. Sometimes the adults in the room have to save the kids from themselves.

I did find it odd that Jenkins wasn’t mentioned (unless I missed it) at all in the second half after leaving the game with possibly cramps. He wouldn’t have made a difference in the 2nd half but he is probably their 2nd best player.

According to the NYP, Smith wanted to play.
How can you not want to play when you're watching your teammates having a great time winning and celebrating. Yes, you're apart of the team and you can be a great teammate and cheer them on, on the sidelines, but there's still something missing, like you are doing doing your part on the court.
You want to be on the court doing your part to help the team win, or you feel like a spectator.

Saturday night was more than all-right as St. John's mopped the floor with the Seton Hall Pirates. A place where St. John's hasn't won since 2014, they exercised some Newark demons with a 28 point win. RJ Luis Jr shined, Kadary paid no mind to the boos, Zuby Ejifor did whatever he wanted. Kevin Connelly of StormThePaint joins to recap the win, talk about this elite defense, preview the big game against Xavier coming up and more.

Prey is excellent staying in front of guards on switches. Looks awkward, but really moves his feet well. He is finding his groove, with some nifty blocks & will help us down the stretch a lot. You really don’t need him to score.
Yes Prey does not look graceful when moving his feet to stay in front, and for the most part he does stay in front.

And he is a credible 3 pt shooter so he keeps the lane open in our half court set.

Looking forward to his continued development.

Listened on my way home from work. Always worth the listen. And like all Johnny fans, they are always looking for the other shoe to drop.
