Sanders Decommits

As usual Panther brought a large measure of perspective with his post on this topic.

I only wish Lisa Sanders and her family the best in the future and that they stay safe. It is a tragedy what can happen in unsafe neighborhoods with rampant crime.

We all need to take a step back and not judge motives one way or another.

Moving on...........I trust the triumvirate of Anderson, Cragg, & Shanley (great name for a law firm.)
Totally agree on all points.
Sanders was the one guy in this class I really wanted at St John's.  I was thrilled when he committed here and disappointed when he decommitted.

At the end of the day, he has to do right by himself.   I hope he has a great career (outside of the BE) and selfishly I would love to see him in a Knick uniform someday so I get a chance to root for him.

Regarding Panther’s post:

What he said…….

I agree with you,but we are all displeased, where has it gone we’re your word is your bond. We are to treat players coming out of HS as little  kid s .Today, they have more tools available
to them including coaches etc .,that after  they have been recruited for months to a yr they should know there own mind.
Time invested it’s a shame time lost

Let us move on from the Sander’s de commitment and focus on getting another 3 or 4 star player that can help us become a better team.If we do well this year ,we will get better quality players.Let us develop our freshmen class we have and that in itself will attract better players from everywhere.Everybody loves a winner.

I have always felt about "verbal" commitments in the Yogi Berra maxim--It ain't over till the Fat Lady Sings--which is when a signed LOI arrives.

A number of players transferred after the 2021 season, and there was concern on this board. CMA didn't dwell on the state of college basketball. but instead went to work and brought in a talented group that on paper is better and for certain more mature than some of the players that moved on. Sanders would have been a nice addition. I hope he has a nice career, in a conference far from the Big East. I have full confidence that CMA will find a 2022 recruit of equal or better talent.

While an exciting time for sought after high school players, the recruiting process can be very tough on a teenager and his family. Just like it was repeated in "He's Got Game", this is the most important decision in the life of a highly recruited high school athlete. In truth, I would rather see a player de-commit than start play and transfer out.

Does anyone remember who the Sidney Wilson scholarship went to?

Would have been under Mullin and Matt A, wondering if it turned out to be anyone good...Dunn maybe?

This is like the Jimmy Garappolo trade where it was for a second rounder but that pick was traded for another second rounder and a fifth and then the fifth was traded for a player and the second was traded for a third and a sixth and the sixth was traded with a seventh for a higher sixth and by the end if you trace it all the way through you got a safety, half of a linebacker, an undrafted free agent, and a sack of White Castles - no way to figure out exactly what you got back for what you sent out...

If you get back a sack of White Castle in any deal, you made out well

Bottom line for me…Sanders was a big pickup and his departure is a big loss…but, highly confident in CMA and his “next man up” approach

As a lifelong Yankee, Knicks & St.John's fan, baseball season is over for me and I am particularly optimistic about a very fun basketball season to come; it can't get here soon enough.  Here's hoping Kemba and Posh stay healthy.

These are different times. Trying to figure out the whims of 18-20 year old kids is an exercise in futility. The kids and their families have every right to change their minds and make what they feel is the best decision for them. College basketball is now pro light. Like it or not.

The only time you’ll know who is on each years team is see who shows up on or around October 15. Even then, guys will transfer or quit mid season. It’s just part of the deal today.

This is all I'll say on this topic, ultimately Sanders' mother was concerned with the proximity of SJU to his home in Far Rockaway. While not as bad as it was in the 80s, it's still really bad in some places. Word is Seton Hall is still going after Sanders, and if that does end up being the landing spot, the notion of Far Rockaway to Seton Hall vs SJU proximity wise is a bit of a sham. Sure it's not as easy to get to Seton Hall but it's not exactly California.

Wishing Sanders the best. Hope he makes the best decision, and selfishly I really don't want it to be another Big East school.

We're on to the next.

This decommit buckled my knees.  Any idea where he is going....please don't say "Iona".

Has there been any speculation about where the scholarship will go?

Sanders has now been offered by Butler and St Bonaventure per Andrew Slater

Good for Jaquan;  by all accounts he is a quality players who will have many options.  Good luck to him as he moves forward.

Time for St. John’s fans to move on.
Jaquan isn’t coming to St. John’s.
St. John’s will survive without Jaquan Sanders.
4* AJ Storr who plays the same position as Sanders is coming to St. John’s.
Love the one you with.

I see ESPN finally listened and moved him to the obvious SF position :)
