Rysheed

That was a ridiculous answer by Lavin. He had a misrable day yesterday, he needs to get these guys ready to play next week.

I don't understand not starting jordan. What the heck is keady there for? Shouldn't he knock some sense into lavin?

It should be obvious what game the used car salesman was playing. Jordan had played very well the past few games and had upped his draft prospects. Lav wanted to "remind" the scouts that RJ was a "problem child" who is not ready by not starting him. Its the real reason he lost his starting spot to Branch earlier in the season and Lav figured he would still get the benefit of his production by his playing starter minutes while hurting his rep with scouts by creating the image that he is not ready or mature enough yet.

Would have been different if Branch had been killing it on the court but the fact that he wasn't, not then or now makes the whole thing highly suspicious.

Not starting Jordan was asinine. IF he did something that warranted not starting then IMO he should have been suspended a la Harrison; IF he did something to deserve the sit down, enough with the never ending soap opera. Since I have heard no explanation except for the insulting one referencing Banch's practice performance I will believe it was just another team-destructive Lavin "I am smarter than anyone else" attempt at playing a mind game.

It's asinine to comment without knowing the exact reasons he was benched. Credit to Lavin to keep the exact reason private, and not throw Jordan under the bus and perhaps hasten his exit. Jordan not starting had no impact on the final result. Although he had a nice stat line, we looked no more like a team running on all cyllinders with him in or out of the game.

Agree with what you're saying about it not effecting the game and about not throwing Jordan under the bus, but then how about just not saying anything instead of some cockamamie explanation about Branch playing better in practice and/or about him being a senior? Some of his comments defy logic and are an insult to our intelligence.

I get it that what comes out of Lavin's mouth is often not worth listening to - which is why I don't. But I do give him credit for managing egos, and keeping discipline private.

GREAT, and I mean GREAT interview on Fox sports with John Thompson Jr, conducted by his very intelligent son Ron. JT jr (the Dad) speaks about everything about the game today, and even social topics (the "I can't breathe T-shirts" that Gtown players wore earlier this season. IF it is repeated, don't miss.

One topic JT spoke about is how the game has changed, how coaches have to deal with the "basketball groupies" as he calls them, the handlers who are in players ears telling them how to play to get to the next level. HE says the challenge of a coach is to get a player to play into the system, and sacrifice being "the man" he was in HS to fit into a system. I thought of Rysheed as JT spoke. Again, really worth finding - I hope Fox repeats it. I saw it at 4 AM this morning.

You just commented, hello? You give "credit to Lavin" despite there being no evidence that RJ needed to be benched at all - your answer assumes that there's a bus and that Jordan needed to be thrown under it. It's just as likely that Jordan was sat down for some minor transgression as it is that Coach Kreskin had a premonition about who should start. Because there's as much evidence that Lavin's a dope who acts capriciously as there is that Jordan is a teenager who needs to be punished for acting immaturely.

I give credit to Lavin for non-disclosure. It may be presumptuous to assume it's more than simply who played better in practice, but that presumption is common sense, especially given Jordan's historical problem with rules and punctuality. If the commentary was "Lavin was asinine to sit Jordan if the actual reason for such was that Branch played better in practice", I'd agree, but the inference to me at least, was that Lavin sitting Jordan in a BE playoff game for any infraction short of warranting suspension or dismissal is asinine.

However, I do understand your logic.

Thanks for heads up on interview Beast, I will look out for it and even try to google it. I hear everything you're saying about managing egos, dealing with handlers, etc. Not saying its an easy job, but if you want to be a head coach at this level, that's part of the job. There's lots of things about my job that I hate, mostly dealing with insane clients. I wish I could hand that part of my job over to someone else. But as the boss, I need to handle those people myself. And I've learned how to do so pretty effectively. So Lavin doesn't get points for dealing with egos and handlers, after all those are the kids he's recruiting and that's what he's getting paid to do. If he can't or doesn't want to do that, he should either coach at a different level or go back in to the booth. As for the fact that you(and many others) don't bother to listen to what comes out of his mouth, that is very telling in and of itself.
Meanwhile North Carolina completely coming apart at the seams.Just got outscored by ND something like 23-3 with about 5:00 left in game. Fire Roy Williams! ;)

People are making a big deal about a 4 minute benching. I thought I saw the entire team playing poorly - mostly after the first four minutes.

I could see an issue if Rysheed played limited minutes but he played 28 minutes and was the only St. John's player who looked like a potential pro. Branch, a 6th man who got the start played 24 minutes.
There are no players after him on the bench worthy of more than 5 minutes so this discussion is useless.

72' In our biggest game of the year, arguably our best player, who happens to have a history of pushing the limits, doesn't get the start. And his coach comes up with some ridiculous explanation as to why. And you don't think fans on here on going to question/discuss/debate it?

Monte, Monte, Monte!
The Providence game was not the biggest game of the year. Our first biggest game of the year was winning at Syracuse. Our 2nd biggest game of the year was losing to Duke in the final 5 minutes. Our 3rd biggest game of the year was Villanova at MSG where we were down only 7 with 6 minutes to go before losing by 18 because Rysheed was 0 for after coming back from his mysterious leave.
Our final 2 biggest games of the year were us beating Georgetown and Xavier to get to 21 wins securing an NCAA bid. The last 2 blowouts were meaningless in the bigger picture since we played with gimpy players and no bench. Losing to Providence was what the doctor ordered for this team.
Enjoy the selection show and be assured Ricky Smith Baldi and his girlfriends on Twitter are hoping our name does not get called. As for the other tools of the troll turd world their loyalty goes to whomever gives them free (as in cheap Theo) tickets to games. Be assured they will never be given freebies by St. John's staff again.

What's asinine is you again commenting on my post WITHOUT reading it or is just that you don't understand English? As I stated in the post you didn't bother reading or couldn't understand if there was ANY reason for benching Jordan he should have been suspended IMO. And if he didn't do anything he should have started. Next time I think you might comment on one of my posts I guess I'll just write Dick and Jane style.

What is going on with Rysheed's neck, flips his head back and it is only getting worse every game.

Rysheed's turning of the head and snapping of the neck is reminiscent of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's head movements..Mahmoud had/has a mild case of Tourette's Syndrome. One can't help but wonder if the same is true of Rysheed.

Rysheed's Instagram this morning leads me to believe he's gone. Really frustrating, next year could be a disaster.

He's not a first rounder. But if he wants to leave I wish him luck but he's making a mistake.

Yeah.... I just read it. It sound rather apparent that he's planning on leaving school.

Not a smart decision, IMO. But there isn't anything we can do about it.

It's a shame Omar Co..I mean Rysheed has so many delusional hangers on and leeches pumping his head up about his professional qualifications.

As I've learned with Moe and Jakarr, Sheed owes us nothing. Nothing at all.

Have to take our own personal feelings out of it.

It's just a shame because instead of making, he's actually costing himself millions by declaring this early.

No disrespect to him but I hope he enjoys Skyping and Facetiming from whatever country he finds himself playing in.

Philly will just move onto their next cash cow.

I wish him the best. But honestly feel so sorry for him. It's terrible when the people who claim to have your best interest at heart actually end up hurting you the most.

After Sheed, what'll be the next shoe to drop?
