Rysheed Jordan

Garrett had the lead but Rysheed has been playing better of late. I think Garret has 4 ROW's and Sheed is up to 2. I don't know if that alone is the deciding factor but I would like Sheed to get a couple more. Certainly, right now, Rysheed is elevating his team more than Garrett is.

While #'s can sometimes be misleading; here are some on Jordan. His shooting has definitely improved.

From 11/18 to 12/31 Jordan was 2 for 14 from the three point line for a 14% 3-pt %.
After 12/31 through, he's 7 for 14 from the three point line for 50%
While he's not taking a ton of three's; it's nice to see him have more success.

Here are his total field goal makes attempts during those periods:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 22 for 65 for for a total field goal % of 33.8%
After 12/31: 36 for 79 for a total field goal % of 45.6%

If you back out the three's from the total field-goals, the shooting from inside the arc has also improved, albeit by a smaller %:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 20 for 51, for a two-point field goal % of 39.2%.
After 12/31: 29 for 65 for a two-point field goal % of 44.6%.

Assists to turnovers (partially a function of how well his team shoots), has not been as improved:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 28 assists to 14 turnovers: 2:1 ratio
After 12/31: 37 assists to 28 turnovers: 1.3:1 ratio

Very nice analysis!! Despite what he has shown, the flashes are so brilliant, that you get the idea that the sky is the limit. There is so much room for improvement. He needs to protect the ball better, goes out of control still at times, and still forces shots. He reaches on defense, and commits bad fouls far from the basket. Still and all, he has done some things that are indicators that he is playing the game at a different plane. The drive and dunk against SHU was spectacular, but didn't come close to the missed dunk a couple of games prior after he spun in traffic in the lane, took off, and still had enough air to try to slam it. I hope he doesn't leave early, because he could be a guy who scores 17 or 18 a game here, gets 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and still needs to improve. If he refines his game, he can be a spectacular NBA player.

Can Jordan be BE ROTY? I know he got a late start. I'm not well posted on how other first year players are doing. Can someone post me. Thanks.

Joe, check the top of this page (50).

I posted at beginning of season that our success would hinge on Jordan transitioning from inexperienced freshmen to on court leader...we are just about at that point...and with exception of occasional attempt to force the issue, he has been great...probably the 1st player capable of breaking down a defense that we have had in a long time

was great to see him speak on Redmen report...in general it is great to listen to the kids speak...they seem like good kids

Rysheed's development is one of the key drivers of this nice run we are peeling off. That and CO's development and the tighter and more dependable rotations have been given the team a lot more consistencly. Just watching the SH game now. A couple of nice pull up jumpers by Jordan here in the first half.

Watching Jordan and CO develop. I can't help but get excited for next year. Jordan's vision is amazing and CO has Calvin Johnson hands. He catches everything

Agreed but CO has to improve his rebounding for us to be a serious threat next season.

I'm starting to think this will be CO's last season with STJ, I hope i'm wrong, but his improved play is going to tempt him to lean towards delcaring for draft. Posters have pointed out that after last season he was tempted. Clearly I hope he stays.

Huh?

He is nowhere near ready to leave.

His "improved play" has been steady, not monstrous enough to move the needle.

I wish fans would just appreciate players developing rather than opening the door for them to go.

Where did I type he was ready to go?

What does "tempt him to lean towards declaring for the draft" mean?

It means he is scoring points and maybe the people in his ear will talk him into declaring. Where did I say he was ready? I dont think he is , and I hope he stays.

This years NBA draft is extremely deep. I don't think any of our guys are leaving early. They wouldn't be first round picks at this point. Barring an amazing and unlikely Final Four run where CO, Rysheed and Sampson play phenomenal no one is going anywhere.

We're in the social media era now where there aren't many guesses anymore about where a player is going to get drafted if they leave. There are services doing this for a living that are very accurate year to year, and none of them has any of our guys projected anywhere near being drafted. The only thing I could see changing that is like someone said, we have a huge NCAA run and one steps up, or one NBA team lets one of our guys know they would 100% draft them, if that's even legal.

FYI

Promo code TZOO on Ticketmaster gets you 1/2 off tickets (although ticketmaster charges are not discounted) - think the all in per ticket cost is ~$48

If Rysheed Jordan continues to play the way he has played, and he continues to improve he will be the best point guard to play at SJU since Mark Jackson. And this is coming from one of the biggest Erick Barkley fans ever....

If they all return and continue to improve, could be a really fun season next year

Think they should all stay, Sampson then could be a lottery pick or a top ten 1st rounder. Jordan should wait until he finishes his 2nd yr. and depending if Co .develops more offensively could declare after 2014 season if not wait until 2015s

That is why 2014 and 2015 top recruits a must
