Rysheed Jordan

Even though he missed it, I love the fact that he tried to hammer it off that spin-move. Shows how much confidence he is playing with, and he's letting his natural ability take over.

He also seems to be "in" on more plays than anybody on our team now save maybe Harrison. Tons of tips defensively, getting off his feet quickly for offensive rebounds (as on the missed dunk), etc. Those things add up, and when you combine it with the talent he has you have a plus-plus player.

Beautiful form on his jumpshot too, great arc. Now he's shooting them with authority so he's making them.

Excited to see where he can take us.

Rysheed has very nice defensive instincts. He closes down passing lanes very well. The tips he got were key. I was very happy with his game last night. With his jump shot rounding into form, he is going to be a difficult cover. I'm excited to see how we play out. This is gonna be a fun ride.

Watch him in isolation. He eyes the ball like a jaguar waiting to pounce and picks his moments to pounce lightning quick. If opponents get sloppy with the ball, he has a great knack for picking pockets.

He is a freshman, he will make mistakes, but I can live with those mistakes as this kid is electric, and fun to watch..the team slowed its motion in the second half, and it cost us a blow out win..the first half and even the beginning of the second half was absolutely a clinic on motion, and Jordan was the maestro..

IMO, the biggest difference in the game after Providence came back was Jordan's defense on Cotton. Excellent, excellent work that kept us in the lead while we continued to struggle on offense.

Honestly, his ceiling is so high that it's going to be very difficult to reach his full potential. If he puts it all together, he will be a big time NBA guard, all-star capable. Admittedly he is very far from that right now, but he can do things very few guards can do.

He reminds me a lot of Iman Shumpert coming out of Georgia Tech. Not so much how he plays now, but how he was as a college player. Big point guard, with great defensive skills, who can also play off the ball. Shump has developed a pretty good shot, and is a perimeter player now, but in college he was much more of a penetrator.

I was thinking about that some last night too, desco. Similar in size and athleticism for a guard, both excel at defense. I just think there is a better comparison out there but I have yet to think of it.

It's interesting that Jordan hasn't been made available to the media yet. Would have expected it by now and thought from Lavin's previous comments that it was happening after Xmas.

While #'s can sometimes be misleading; here are some on Jordan. His shooting has definitely improved.

From 11/18 to 12/31 Jordan was 2 for 14 from the three point line for a 14% 3-pt %.
After 12/31 through, he's 7 for 14 from the three point line for 50%
While he's not taking a ton of three's; it's nice to see him have more success.

Here are his total field goal makes attempts during those periods:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 22 for 65 for for a total field goal % of 33.8%
After 12/31: 36 for 79 for a total field goal % of 45.6%

If you back out the three's from the total field-goals, the shooting from inside the arc has also improved, albeit by a smaller %:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 20 for 51, for a two-point field goal % of 39.2%.
After 12/31: 29 for 65 for a two-point field goal % of 44.6%.

Assists to turnovers (partially a function of how well his team shoots), has not been as improved:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 28 assists to 14 turnovers: 2:1 ratio
After 12/31: 37 assists to 28 turnovers: 1.3:1 ratio

Just did some research of the rookie of the year candidates. Thing that Rysheed has done is play his best ball during the conference slate, not sure what the rest have done all together.

Rysheed Jordan : 8.1 pts 3.3 rbs 3.3 asts
Billy Garrett 11.7 pts 2.3 rbs 3.4 asts
Tommy Hammilton 8.8 pts 5.5 rbs .8 asts
Josh Hart 8.1 pts 4.3rbs 1.0 asts
Deonta Burton 6.5 pts 2.3 rbs .6 asts
Jaren Sina 6.3 pts 1.3 rbs .2.6 asts
Elijah Brown 6.7 pts 2.4 rbs 1.4 asts

Garrett has the best stats but Rysheed isnt to far behind. If he and St. Johns continue to perform well I think he could get nod. Certainly not a guarantee though.

Hamilton and Garrett might wash each other out too.

Can Jordan be BE ROTY? I know he got a late start. I'm not well posted on how other first year players are doing. Can someone post me. Thanks.

That blow by Sina for the dunk is one of the sickest individual plays I've seen by a redman.

I was thinking the same. The only other player I can think of is billy garrett of DePaul. Don't know his numbers but he plays very well. If we stay hot Jordan can steal it.
