Rysheed Jordan

Um no.

Dom's game will actually be more benficial now with Jordan coming. Dom does a lot of little things, and does not need the ball. He plays defends, rebounds, and gets after it. Following Garrett's transfer, he becomes our lone lunchpail guy. Not to mention, he is total team player, who does not complain about his shots, just the team's results.

When Dom “plays defense and gets after it,” he pressures the PG around half court and either gets burned or makes a foul away from the basket. There were several examples of this, the most egregious at San Francisco when he was lucky to not be ejected. Just because he hustles and gets in people’s faces doesn’t make him a starter in a major conference. Gift is a stronger rebounder, the scouting report says Sanchez is, and as Sampson fills out, he projects to be also.

You are using the San Francisco game as your example. Good. Can you go back any further? He came a long way since that.

I guess you missed his play down the stretch. But I am not hear to try to change your mind.

I am just happy you are not in charge of handing out minutes.

If Jordan is on his way, what is the impact on Branch? Tough to predict how a 20-year-old reacts.

I think Jordan will hurt Greene more than Branch. Greene will be the fourth guard in the rotation now, imo.

That depends on Lavin's love affair with Phil.

It's funny, when you look into some of the players' past comments, they all talk about Phil like he is some amazing talent. I've seen Moe say it. I've seen Gift say it.

It makes me think that Phil looks really good during practices (what exactly they are practicing is still up for debate).

If I'm setting up a rotation, based on everything I've seen, Phil would be the 3rd PG behind Sheed and Branch. He's a better shooter than Branch but a horrendous passer and decision maker.

Now "PG" sounds crazy. But that is where he should be IMO. Phil started the year out on fire. But Lavin ran him into the ground in Charleston and he never recovered.

I don't want to see Phil at SG simply because he can't be trusted. I think it's too much of a green light for him which is the last thing a player like him needs.

I cited the SF game off the top of my head because of the hard foul around mid-court, which sticks out in my mind as the most egregious example of erratic play and ineffectiveness (the ND incident probably too obvious/fresh in our minds). He commits a lot of fouls away from the basket, which gets him into foul trouble. Overall, I like Pointer, and agree that he does contribute in a variety of ways. I hope he plays closer to your assessment of him than of mine. I think his role can be debated in a polite manner. Regardless, this thread should return its focus to Jordan.

If you want to go back.... Moses and Jackson handled it ok... Mike was the starter and Jax took over .. I think Lav can handle it.. and it (fingers crossed) would be a great situation to handle .. having another PG would be great addition to the team.

Big grab by Coach Lavin and the staff. I can't believe anyone would ever doubt him on the recruiting end...just plain silly.
Let's keep the expectations reasonable for the youngin. As good as he can be, freshmen take time. Nice addition, though, as we really need more kids that can create.

I'm not celebrating until I see the LOI

Or at least hear an announcement...

Hope it's true that Jordan is coming to St. John's. UCLA doesn't make sense. They have Zach LaVine coming in at PG and they need bigs. Plus the coaching change delivers too much uncertainty. It's has to be St. John's or Temple. Can't dismiss the hometown team, but it's looking good for St. John's. I think he can play both guard spots too, so him and Branch together makes sense.

Im not celebrating until he qualifies.LOL

I don't see Dom deserving much more than 10 min/game, let alone starting. His lack of size, shooting ability put him behind Sampson, Sanchez, Obepka, and Gift. I see him fighting Jones for minutes off the bench. I would actually love seeing him in such a role to provide a spark and give the big guys a breather.

Dom was our most consistent 3-point shooter once D'Angelo was suspended. And he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the conference.

If Dom puts in the work over the Spring/Summer, he will be scary.
Numbers game says he won't start. But he will be first off the bench and I can see him finishing games because of his defense alone.

SJUalum98:
He already brings so many positive intangibles to the table (court)!
And perspective -
This just shows how far we've come since Roberts/Jarvis Dark Ages where we are actually debating whether a player as multi-talented as Dom should play, how much PT
We would celebrate & be ecstatic if anyone like him were here pre Lavin!

all the best

My Dear Marillac
As i've written in other posts in an attempt to temper my optimism with reality - we will absolutely miss out on recruits and lose games BUT we will (and have) get our share which we already have under coach Lavin and staff.

all the best

If this happens on Thursday, I see Jordan and Harrison starting with Branch backing up Jordan and Greene backing up Harrison. They can also go to a three guard offense with sanchez and Obepka or something like that. Everyone forgets that Greene was playing with a torn labrum in his hip supposedly. We saw flashes from him and if he's healthy next season those flashes might become the norm. Let's hope. If he was playing with that injury all year then we can't really dump on the kid.

There are many people on JJ who feel DLO is not returning. I was wandering what the thaughts are on this board.

Can anyone who has seen him play describe his game- is he a pass first PG- or can he shoot the rock also? Anyone who saw the game last night saw how important a PG is ....Burke and Siva were outstanding.

He is a scoring point guard but is unselfish and a good passer. Big, strong, quick and athletic. At 6'4 he'll probably be big bigger then most Pg's but at the same time is quick and fast enough to play the position. His shot has improved and is a capable 3 point shooter. He also has really good hands and will get steals/blocks. He's a really good defender but I think at the next level he will have to learn better fundamentals and rotations. Also he is gonna have to adapt to the speed of the game especially coming from a public high school

Rysheed Jordan is announcing his college decision on Thursday, and told CoBL tonight that he hadn’t yet decided exactly how he’s going to make the decision. He says he knows which school he’s going to and that he made his decision up last week; the 6-foot-4 point guard has been deciding between Temple, St. John’s and UCLA for several months.

That sounds promising, given the rumors that St. John's is in the lead for the 6'4" slashing playmaker. Also positive? Bruins Nation is already upset about new UCLA coach Steve Alford losing a recruit to Steve Lavin.

Rysheed Jordan makes his official decision tomorrow. Will it be to reporters? Via Twitter? Instagram with a team hat? Smoke signals? We'll find out... sometime tomorrow.

@DaveKrupinski: Multiple sources from Philly area have said all signs point to #stjbb for Rysheed Jordan. Huge coup for Steve Lavin and co.
