Rysheed Jordan - Stay or Go?

I couldn't disagree more with anybody who says we don't need this kid. He changes the outlook of next season in a BIG way.

And w/o him what is the over / under on posters that throw away the good karma and start bitching when we go 14-16 or whatever next year?

Rysheed has not announced that he is entering the draft and that has to be a good sign for him staying.

I really hope he stays. Could be he is waiting to see what players will be at St John's next year.

I think you can drive your self crazy trying to think along with Rysheed

I think we all agree that the kid oozes talent....but he scares me as to his commitment to the team, and as the days pass its not making me feel any better.

I am fine with him staying. However, Coach is building a brand here at SJU. Whether he stays or goes, it will not change what has started happening already. You can throw Obekpa in as well. I want players that want to be here, to represent SJU proudly, and that see the value of learning from a hall of fame coach.

haha none of us will be happy with 14-16 but even the wettest of wet blankets will be pacified for at least one year while coach fills his roster(presumably with studs!). It will just be so much more fun to watch a team with Sheed running the show.

The possibilities for next year range from Sheed, Sampson and Diallo as our big 3 to having none of them.. Let's hope we keep the good news coming, and if it doesn't I expect CM to rebound and succeed no matter what.

Would be great if Sheed comes back for one more year, is all league and then gets drafted in the first or early second round. Would help the program bridge the gap until Chris can start landing his own elite recruits. It would also help keep the buzz going through the regular season.

While we might be able to land a transfer who can come in and play right away I can't see anyone who would have the potential to come close. We need scoring in the worst way. Sheed would be the "man" for us next year and could put up crazy stats to help his cause. It's hard to believe the D league or overseas would help his stock more but I understand if his family can not wait another year.

what "brand " is coach building here? its been a good week but I don't think anything sort of a brand is being built. You have no idea if he can be an X and O's coach, what style of play he wants to play and if any of the offers actually pan out.

I wish him the best and hope he eventually does build a brand but one week does not build a brand

Starting to seriously doubt he comes back. I think we all agree its a mistake but what can you do...

WHO CARES. He could put us on his back Was just ok player Like the guards we have and are going to get Do not need the drama

Wait. You like the guards we have now? I may be forgetting a walk-on or two, but I'm pretty sure last time I looked we don't have "guards." We have "guard," Balamou. Who else is left?

Spot on. People are jumping way too fast with their predictions and conclusions here. At the end of the day it's how the players perform on the court, both putting the ball in the hoop and stopping the other side from doing so. Coaches don't win games, players do.

One of the things he said on his FAN interview this morning is that he wants to play up-tempo. That means he wants players who know the game and when they get on the court, they will know what to do. IMHO, that's his brand he's trying to build here.

But the coaches put the kids on the court and work within a system, that's what wins games.

Within the system the players still need to hit their shots, move without the ball, box out, hit their free throws, play defense, follow their shots, etc.

Coaches do win games. How can you say they don't? They just lose them? As far as what kind of a system he will run? Well Coach Mullin has an idea on what he wants to run but ultimately his players should determine what system they run. This system should also change from year to year based on the roster.

Coach Mullin in the short time he had been here has out hustled the last coach already. He is building a program and actually restoring hope that SJU will be a player again.

None of us know for certain if Mullin will succeed. Just like none of us knew for certain whether Lavin, Roberts, Jarvis, Frashcilla or Mahoney would succeed. But so far Chris seems to be doing all the right things, things that will bode well for his future success:

1. He is re-establishing ties with the local High School and AAU programs
2. He is building an incredible staff, which will most likely prove to be one of the best in the country when all is said and done
3. He is unifying the fan base
4. He is creating buzz for the program the likes of which we haven't seen in a long time
5. He is re-branding us as "NY's team!"

Yes some fans are getting carried away with their enthusiasm, but IMO anyone who cannot jump on this bandwagon and feel great about what is going on right now is not a true fan of the program.
