Robbins - Harkless turning pro

Marillac, unfortunately the only drills Amir will be running this summer will be baseball drills. Let's hope he gets thru the summer without injury as we will need him next season for sure.
Assuming Mo leaves it seems we are on a treadmill. As soon as we seem to make progress, somebody leaves the program. Lavin will have to get his STELLAR recruiting class to make up for the loss of MO. We will need 3 bigs instead of 2.

To Everybody out there in Posting Land:

Where is the patience and hope? It's a process - a lousy one that Coach Lavin inherited. What has Lavin been here a decade already? Peanuts. It took P.J. Carlesimo a decade to finally get Seton Hall to the promised final four land - and we have a lot more going for us and will get there in much shorter order -

Who knows what's coming down; what's the buzz??? Only the shadow B) :ninja: :Z (for those of us old enough to recall). But I trust Lavin, believe in him because of all the wondrous things he has already accomplished in such short order;

Is there a program that has not lost recruits; had "scandals" (or was that sandals?); had transfers; faced unexpected difficulties?

we're moving along and will deal with the good surprises and setbacks as well.

What wondrous things has lavin accomplished? I mean last year was great, but I'd hardly call a first round exit from the NCAA with another coaches players a wondrous accomplishment.

I truly hope seton hall is not the benchmark we are looking to. We're heading to year three and I'll wager that we won't be predicted to finish in the top two thirds of the conference next year if harkless doesn't return.

I am seriously alarmed with the state of the program. I'm also troubled by lavin's cryptic tweets about harkless's future and the brilliant mystery recruiting class. Seems inappropriate for a coach to be tweeting like a teenager. It undermines lavin's credibility and smacks of desperation.

Actions speak louder than words. Just bring in the players and win games. That will shut up all the detractors and fill the seats. Until that happens, the tweets are nothing more than bluster.

2nd round exit.
NCAA considers the Rd of 64 the 2nd round.
Get it right :p

Fair point. I stand corrected

Boo is negative but he's not annoying---like some others. I just refer to him as Boo-hoo Harvey. Just keep him away from sharp objects and open windows.

I don't think we are in rebuilding mode.

Come on.

13-19 with six scholarship players, only one recruit signed, a coach who sat out a year and now a star player possibly leaving.

What else could you possibly call this?

Year two of rebuilding, nothing else.

Agree, Redmennorth!

But, to clarify, RE-building infers tearing something down and starting over. This year we built a good foundation, now Lavin frames and finishes the house. 4 solid recuits and we are a deep team with solid talent, poised to be a 9 or 10 man rotation that can give teams fits. With Mo, top 20 easily. Without him, 25-35, and perhaps an at large bid depending on who we reel in.

You must be a person of great faith to make a projection like that without knowing the identity of a single recruit other than branch who wasn't exactly lighting it up at a&m. I would dare say that predicting an at large birth next year with harkless coming back and a good recruiting class would be going out on a limb.

If nothing else, I will say that this board has some great optimists. If only there were more of you in the world.

U can't be SERIOUS.. ... get back to me when Lav reels in another STELLAR class & we are in the top 15 by January.. B)

Give me Sampson, Obekpa and Hall with Branch and I agree with you. But right now our top 20 class is just a dream.

I believe you will get that class with Morris and two more players.

Morris signing with us will probably boost him into the top 100 in the final rankings.

I hope and pray you are correct.

That is why I said year 2 of rebuilding.
2011-12 was year one since Coach had to recruit an entire new team. Since he was not unable to recruit 10 players, and believe me I do not fault him for that the rebuilding process had to be completed. He will do the job.
I too believe that if Mo returns and Coach adds 3 more decent recruits with Branch we are a top 20 team.
Now we just have to see who Coach brings in.

Selfishly speaking i don't want him to leave, however it does look good for our program and staff...for those saying that if everyone qualified and Lindsey didn't transfer that moe wouldn't have had as good of stats is complete nonsense...for all you know with a full cast he may have had even better numbers because he would've been playing his true position, getting easier looks and easier baskets and not being as run down from playing so much...its all "ifs" that can never be answered...so great if he decides to stay, if not best of luck moe...if our future of the program is if he stays or goes than we are in trouble...we will be fine, coach is gonna bring in the stellar class that he has promised and im cool with that....the more people we send to the nba the better...people are too use to the last decade where we have 4 year players...but no ncaas and no nba talent...this year was an aberration due to all that went wrong...that's all about to change

Youi hit on an interesting point but first, if he can get first round money and chooses to go, God bless him and I will be rooting for him hard. But I for one don't see small forward as his "natural" position. he doesn't shoot, handle, or create nearly well enough, especially when you are talking the pro game; I'm not even sure he is quick enough to play there. But as everyone knows, the NBA will draft for potential, but when you are selling potential, the possibility of dropping in the draft becomes very real. I wish the kid nothing but the best whatever he decides.

Thank you for the dose of sanity. The idea that the program was going to be restored in less than a few years just shows that NYC fans are not really as basketball astute as they pretend to be.

If we had Polee, Pelle, Sampson, The Roberts kids, Moe and what Lindsey was supposed to be we'd be sweet 16 next year. Now, because things blew up it suddenly takes years. Nonsense.

Actually what is nonsense is you and other posters expecting that Lavin could come in ridiculously late in the recruiting cycle, replace a whole team with no hiccups in his first year and oh yes, battle cancer while he is doing it. But the truth of the matter is I love to bust your chops but the next time you read a book about basketball is the first time you know anything about the game. You live in a fantasy world and your only redeeming quality on this board is providing occasional comic relief.

How about my statement a couple of months ago that Mo would go anywhere from 15 to 25? Seems to be panning out doesn't it? Didn't need to read a book for that. Just listened to a couple of NBA sources. I looked up the term "hiccups" as regards recruiting and didn't find anything. Mistakes and screwups are more appropriate words. Hiccups are more common among heavy drinkers who spend their time in bars BSing about sports. Sound familiar?

Hate to say it BUT without Harkless we are not very good next year. Another year of having no expectations.
