Robbins - Harkless turning pro

its not premature if Mo said tomorrow that he is going pro thats it, he has no choice. April 10th is just the last day to declare.

I think, if he declares, he will be drafted somewhere between 15-20. If he falls in this area, he's making a good call. It's easy to sit here and say he's making a mistake. Who are we to know what's best for him. None of us are NBA scouts ( maybe Bobre, who knows) or in his inner circle.

I wish him much success and hope he has a long and lucrative NBA career, if that is the route he chooses.

To put things in perspective here is Kawhi Leonard who was picked 15th in the draft last year.

Money wise 2013 would be the year to come out, not much different between 2011 and 2012.

And if he tears his knee up vs. NJIT next year...........

I'm not saying he should stay, but there is a big difference ina starting sal of 2.1 mil in 2012 and 3.2 in 2013.

And regarding tearing up his knee, a player can get hurt anytime. If you take that approach they would never play in pick up games or pre draft camps or AAU games.

He would make more money in his first contract then his family could make working their jobs for many years. For these kids that's all that matters.

Like I just said on Jungle-

I have no problem with his decision. He is not transferring to Rider or quitting the team midseason to go play for Coach Casey at CW Post. He's going to the NBA. He will get picked in Rd 1 and he won't be Omar Cook. He opened the gates for our recruiting and city kids look up to him. That can go a long way in a kid maybe sticking around NYC as opposed to leaving down the road.

Say it ain't so, Moe!

But if it is, I wish you all the best and thanks for coming here and playing your heart out under very difficult circumstances.

Ofher than Cal at Kentucky, few coaches push their developing players early unless they are first round picks. If more players come out and more foreign players get drafted, and Moe moves to the 2nd round, he is screwed....knee or no knee.
Getting back to SJ....the team....without Moe, next year may be as bad as this year unless Lav brings in the class he is promising.

Currently NBADraft.net has only 1 foreign player in the 1st round.

If Moe leaves team will be worse to me no matter who staff brings in. One less upperclassman to stabilize newcomers hurts, unless of course your talking a Calipari class.

Selfishly speaking i don't want him to leave, however it does look good for our program and staff...for those saying that if everyone qualified and Lindsey didn't transfer that moe wouldn't have had as good of stats is complete nonsense...for all you know with a full cast he may have had even better numbers because he would've been playing his true position, getting easier looks and easier baskets and not being as run down from playing so much...its all "ifs" that can never be answered...so great if he decides to stay, if not best of luck moe...if our future of the program is if he stays or goes than we are in trouble...we will be fine, coach is gonna bring in the stellar class that he has promised and im cool with that....the more people we send to the nba the better...people are too use to the last decade where we have 4 year players...but no ncaas and no nba talent...this year was an aberration due to all that went wrong...that's all about to change

Thanks Moose. If you have not noticed, I am in denial with Moe:) I will wish him all the best if drafted and unfortunately the rebuilding at SJ would continue, yet again:( Our fans disappear in rebuilding years and that has always killed our recruiting.

If Moe goes then its his decision and I respect it. I wouldn't completely agree with it but its his call. As of now there is no definite decision so I think we should relax and be patient. And if he did go I disagree with us being worse next year depending on who comes. I think Jakarr could come in to his position next year and do some great things. Maybe not to the extent of Moe but it wouldn't be a total downgrade. Obviously we would have to get Jakarr first but add that with the current group and maybe a few other pieces and we would have a solid team. For now I think we just gotta calm down and let the process play out

Folks, let's just take a deep breath and see how this all plays out. Based on what I'm reading from Nate Blue, the stories were prematurely put out there by Lenn Robbins.

If Moe opts to leave for the NBA, no fan on this board should blame him at all. He has the opportunity to earn a lot of money playing the sport he loves. And we should all support him and hope he becomes an absolute star in the league. The more notoriety he gets, the more national attention STJ basketball will get because of it. And if Moe decides to stay in Queens for a little while longer, he will surely elevate STJ to be a national contender in 2012-'13. Obviously, we're all rooting for this scenario, but either way we should support him and be grateful he wears a St. John's uniform.

Moe is such a good kid. Whatever decision he makes, we should all wish him the best. He deserves it. St. John's will do just fine.

A class act all the way. I am happy for him, but this just reinforces my hatred for the NBA.

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath. I understand that the potential that Mo might declare has been fueled by the combination of the tweet earlier in the week from the guy at one of the NBA draft websites, Robbins' tweet today, as well as Coach Lav's. But Mo's and Nate Blue's tweets are the most credible, and given that Lavin is out on the recruiting trail, he could be purposefully generating buzz about Mo's consideration to help persuade potential recruits that if they come to the Johnnies to work with this staff, it may have immediate results for their potential NBA prospects.

If Mo decides to leave, I wish him nothing but the best and hope that he ends up being a first round pick. My concern for Mo is that some of the pre-draft work outs don't go as well as he thought they would, and he drops a bit, or ends up at the end of an NBA bench without the ability to further refine and develop his skills (granted, if as a first round pick, he'll have a good payday). I'd also be concerned about the various wings/forwards who may jump this year, which could impact Mo's draft position.

Short term, Mo leaving obviously hurts our team next year. But the flip-side, as recognized by several on this board, is that it lends further credibility to Lavin and this staff in their ability to develop talent to make it to the next level. That is a positive development, as is all the local buzz this is generating.

And if Mo doesn't leave, we will have a first team Big East type player leading our squad, along with D-Lo, the rest of the talented returning players, and whoever Lavin reels in. And our program will have the upshot of all the buzz this has generated.
