RJ Luis

One of his biggest fans actually and was called out for not being tougher on him when he did the same things Jenkins did.

I think it’s fair to say he was a pretty poor teammate last year. He was also just a soph. We don’t have to like or dislike every aspect of a player’s game — especially as a soph that missed time.

He was frustrating to watch, but you could tell he was frustrated as a player. Forced it way too much. I give him a pass for whatever the reasons, and hope he reaches his potential. If so, he could be a top 10 draft pick in 2025. That type of talent. A long way to go, but I think that is his upside.

Can we stop Bashing Luis please. First he was injured beginning of season and then again during the season so his practice time was limited. Secondly, you can see the kid has potential. Do I believe he should pass a little more then try to make highlight plays, yes! TO say he is a poor teammate? I saw a poster said he was? Really? Poor teammate would say coach im not playing im hurt and ill keep my NIL MONEY too.

Same posters who bashed Jenkins saying he was no good at the beginning of the season I bet! Give him a full year without injury. Give him another season under Rick. Wow its May 8th. I dont like when we bash our own players without merit

Great post. Whether the Luis bashers want to admit it or not, Luis was the player most responsible for most of our 7 wins at the end of the season. Not just in scoring but key steals and some great defense. As you said, he was playing hurt, mostly in pain. That’s not a bad team mate at all, I don’t know what games his critics were watching. I think if healthy, at minimum you will see an all league player.

Now let’s get Pryor. 😎👍

My biggest concern is getting a healed-up Luis who is not Mr. Glass. Feel bad he’s been so limited by those shin splint, but his success may be only a matter of getting healthy enough to have a season without chronic injury.

The Luis medical stuff we defer to you and Eric and the other poster who is a physical therapist. What’s his screen name ? Eric2 ? 😀

I obviously see his massive potential. But as of now I think a good over/under on his assists for the season would be about 40, and about 150 for how many times he passes at all (for the whole season). Right now, he's a turnover machine on defense AND offense.

I think most of us are expecting a different version of RJ this year, without the health issues, and with an added year of experience and Pitino tutelage. A more mature, disciplined and productive RJ.

Now, one game does not a season make, but against a far inferior opponent, in a game where he could have made a statement right out of the gate, what did we see? The same version of RJ that we saw last season. Some bright spots offensively, some reckless play, some stupid fouls including the T, and a FG attempt.

What you call "hate", I see as "frustration" on the part of many in our fan base.
Perhaps Luis’ reaction was out of frustration as well. Not excusing what he did but let’s see how he moves forward from this. I still see a world of potential with him.

The offensive fouls could have gone the other way. The second one he was being held. RJ needs to keep his head and find the boundaries of the referees from game to game. Seems like from game to game players need to get a sense of what is going to fly. And then play within those parameters.
Kicking the ball was stupid and childish. He well learn his lesson and not do it again. Rick called him out. Are people upset about that? I am fine with Pitino calling the players out when needed.

I don’t get the hate towards RJ. I guess many of you don’t get the fact that when you can beat the man who is playing you and score you do so and I’m sure Coach wants him to do so. It’s not like he took wild shots, he was 4 for 7. Are there areas of RJs game that can be improved?, of course but when he’s tearing it up as the season progresses you will all deny the crap you are laying on him now as he has now become the sites whipping boy.
I don't hate RJ. I honestly believe he's the best player on this team. But he frequently lets his ego control his game. He clearly should start every game, except for the next game, that I think he should sit half of the first half for his kicking the ball. Coach's job is also to help mold the young man's character. Go RJ!

I don't recall one person on this board questioning his potential. Right now he is in the best possible position to succeed. He has the god given physical abilities, has excellent skill sets, is being coached by one of the all time greats and is surrounded by talent. The rest is up to him.

Oh, there you go being logical again. ;)

RJ will be fine. He's a young man that is still maturing. Watch him progress this year as he fattens his highlight reel. Going to be a fun ride.

Hopefully, agree, but he is a junior. We'll see. The potential and talent is no doubt there. Right now, he seems to play very selfishly to me. Of course, he can learn. I hope he fattens his reel with a bunch of two and three assist games in addition to what he's shown he can do. I'd like to see more assists than turnovers....and maybe even than fouls.

A small part of one game but RJ looked very similar to last year. A very talented athlete who needs to stop the ball movement and work on his one on moves while his four teammates stop and look.
Wilsher played the complete opposite. Upon receiving the pass he looked to make a move toward the basket or take an uncontested shot but if neither is there he moved the ball. If RJ continues his type of play Pitino with a deeper team this year than last will have him glued to the bench.

RJ has the lowest level of maturity on the team. That will affect his overall ability to be a team player. It's not a question of whether he has the talent to succeed but whether he has what it takes between the ears.😉

Hater!!! 😉

Agree. Hopefully, that won't be necessary, but I think Coach P will give him a pretty short runway to get with the program. I wonder if Kadary and Devon could help with the education.
