He isn’t a very good athlete. Smart player and good shooter: poor defender. Got every call the other night as if he was a Dookie. He can’t hold a candle to RJ talent-wise overall.
Agree with all your points . I agree McNeely’s a very good player but , to me he didn’t seem more than that .
He struck me as , in some ways , like Karaban , who is having a terrible year .
Of course , it was his 1st game back from a significant injury . He got every call Friday and was fooled badly on RJ’s jumper from Zuby’s pick.
In his defense , everyone watching the game was fooled by that play !
Although , can’t recall if it was Jackson or Johnson , who did point out that St John’s has a array of out of bounds plays to use . That was before the play started .
Let’s contrast RJ with Ball for a moment . RJ does most everything better than Ball but , shoot 3’s .
He’s a better defender , rebounder , putback Artist , mid range shooter and capable v of playing many positions .
Plus , RJ jumps out of the building from a stand still , which is why he grabs so many rebounds underneath the basket .
Ball , to me , is a 1 trick Pony . Dangerous from 3 point range but , doesn’t get to the hoop much or , explode away from his defender .
RJ goes by , nearly everyone , hampered only by his driving into traffic .
RJ not only has that explosive step but , holds that speed all the way to the Rim .
No one has ever done a job on him defensively either . If he’s off , it’s because he’s off . Not by someone shutting him down .
