RIP Coach Carnesecca

I haven't read all up on this. And Cllct is run by Darren Rovell who is one step below used car salesman. But this doesnt smell right to me. Is this going to a scholarship fund or something. Otherwise we're just profiting off a legendary man/coach who just passed away. Someone please keep me honest if I missed the hook.
Clict is the official collectibles partner of SJU now. They're the ones who came up with the Coming To America promotion last week and to whom I sold my original tickets. From what I was told, they are using actual sweaters not replicas. I don't know what the % breakdown is between us and Rovell but Ed Kull is a pretty smart guy. Given the new landscape of college sports and the impending House settlement (which obviously benefits the football behemoths more) the school (and Ed) is looking to generate money any way they can.

As to Rovell, I can't comment as to his personality (since I only met him last week) but he has an amazing assortment of collectible items that he showed us a small portion of prior to the game.

Seeing the options of the cards w/ Lou
sweater sample

$1000+ x 1= $1,000 - ??? (Auction)
$399 x 50 = $19,950
$299 x 25 = $7,475

I can't possibly see how 76 half-inch pieces would possibly ever justify destroying the most iconic thing to thus prigram

That $1K auction better net more than a $1M - otherwise it may not even pay for another Richmond level in portal for a season and be wasted.

Seems disingenuous if it's just a replica sweater being passed off, and in a way disgusts me if it is true original from Gtown game.

Zach needs to get on this !!!!!

This article mentions the HOF in Springfield, NA will display Lou C. sweater

"Elsewhere, items like an original pair of Air Jordans share space with Dennis Rodman’s boa and Lou Carnesecca’s sweater"

I'm sitting here cracking up thinking about how the current landscape of NIL and the needs of our program have caused us to have to destroy and sell pieces of one of the most recognizable relics of our program's history lol.

To keep in the spirit of Lou & sweatergate.... some may have interest in enhancing their 2025 wardrobe w/ some vintage Norm Thompson or Ralph Lauren brand sweaters on eBay or Etsy that match ones that Lou wore in games... 😆

.this hunting one is $695

Thanks this is helpful, but "actual sweaters" doesn't clarify if they were owned and worn by Lou and Pitino. From Lou's card the picture and fabric implies it's from his most famous sweater, which wouldn't be true unless he had multiple versions of the same sweater (the original fortunately wasn't cut up). This is something that most relics clarify right on the cards, often giving exact dates and games they were from.

The eBay auto / relic card does clarify at the bottom and in the description that the sweaters were worn court side by Lou and Pitino, and are the same as from the photo:

It's good to have that clarification. For Pitino's it makes sense since he only wore it for the one game (the description says it's from the Kansas St game), but still confusing for Lou since that sweater is in the Hall of Fame and the auction doesn't specify where it's from. Unless if he had multiple of the same sweater? I don't know, but think I'll hold off at these prices.

I have to think it has to be one that was in lobby as you can tell that one looked crocheted with thick yarn like in the card sample. Lou's actual sweater in famous pics didn't appear to have the same look of the weaves. That's very easy to see a difference.

I also wouldn't be surprised it Pitino's original is in tact somewhere and they just got his tailor to make a few swatches

Lol maybe they took that out of the case and put it on Lou a few months ago when he was by the court to cover them legally. Definitely sketchy that they clarified which game Pitino wore his to, but nothing about Lou's.

I know Ed well. He is a very smart guy.

But the collectibles industry which I also know well is full of slime and Rovell is on their Mt Rushmore. Its all just very vague as others have pointed out from an execution standpoint. I have no interest in the items but I'm more concerned at how this all went down with Coach's family etc. Just seems disingenuous. Or maybe its just too soon. My 2 cents.

I noticed the miniature statue is the reverse pose of the one in the lobby. This is the correct pose as the lobby statue is reversed of the actual Carnesecca in game picture that was used by the sculpture.

For those at game...check to see if that sweater is still in the glass display case in lobby

The supposed original is in the Basketball Hall of Fame. There were many duplicates made throughout the years. But knowing Coach, who knows if he actually gave them the original sweater. The original one was given to him by Italian National team coach and fellow Hall of Fame Coach Gamba. He and Carnesecca were very close as the Italian Hoops Federation hosted us 3x in Italy on summer tours. Gamba visited Lou almost every Christmas in NYC along with Spain's coach Antonio Diaz-Miguel. Those dinners at Dante's were legendary!

Ed Manetta wore a sweater today that was given to him by Coach.
