Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

I think any renovations will be minor, happy to be wrong. Pitino got an education on some things this year, one of them is this program cannot currently support all these arena games. There will be more games on campus next year for sure.

I've always considered the Watsco Center in Miami to be a good goal for SJU. Seats about 8,000 and cost about 50 million 20 years ago. Probably would run double that today, but reasonable considering what else is being built out there. If the cost of renevating Carnesecca is three quarters of what it would take to build something like this, then why not opt for the new building?

I can guarantee you this would be a gigantic spend. To make ca more comfortable the upper bleachers have to be torn apart since they are concrete.

If those seqts are made more comfortbale we will lose capacity. I am sure we did a feasibility engineering study of the building when Cragg arrived and expanding behind the baskets wasn't viable though i don't remember why.

I.would imagine to do an expansion in capacity plus comfortable seating in bleachers would cost maybe as much as 50-75 million.
I remember back during Louie's days, there was talk of expanding Alumni Hall. It was always stated that the original plans were such that those walls behind the baskets were designed to be expanded into.

Spend the money on salary for recruits. I’ll gladly suffer paralyzed ass syndrome and heat exhaustion in exchange for big east championships and ncaa runs if we are playing 8 at msg

It cost like 80 million to renovate the Dunk or Amica and that was like 15 years ago and that’s in Providence. My buddy sold his house in garden city for 2 million no way a big reno isn’t going to cost insane money

Agree. Spend enough money on recruits, and our brand will be big enough for more games at MSG.

Can we play games at your buddies house?

Shouldn’t be either or. Arena money dwarfs NIL. Also got to think the whole NIL system will be revamped it’s unsustainable as is.

Yes and I still think there will be a few weekday games at MSG too. I was at every weekday game at the Garden this year - Mich, Nova, Prov and we had solid to very good crowds for all of them. He will try to load up weekends of course but with scheduling that can become harder.

It's easy to say tear down the walls behind each basket to create more seating, but what happens to the fitness center on the east side and what happens to the auxiliary gym on the west side?
Also, the bleacher sections are just too cramped. You can squeeze full seats in, but there still won't be any leg room.
Next is the question of ventilation and air conditioning. Is it possible? Cost? Additional locker room cost?
Alumni Hall opened in the sixties. It is 60 years old and has had heavy use and it's time for a new building. Keep the costs down by doing without a swim pool or theater. Spending millions on another renovation is money that could go toward a new multi-purpose event center.
If there was ever a time to raise money, this is it.
I don't know what is financially possible or construction costs and I don't know the zoning restrictions.

This arena was out of date decades ago. Any idea why upgrades weren't done when the team was actually successful and I assume has money rolling in??

Rick said yesterday that “we are hoping that Carnessecca is going to be renovated immediately, if so we need to play more games there”. He also said that the MSG games should be played only on the weekends. I think that you could expand the building on both sides behind the baskets to add additional seating ( the Little theater might need to be demolished and rebuilt somewhere else on campus) and then add real seats replacing most of the bleacher seating. You might lose seats by swapping out the bleachers for real seats, but I would be happy with a capacity of 6000-7500 with real seats. Of course the ticket prices would go up but I would save money since I would no longer need to see a chiropractor the day after a game!
MSG on weekends only? I mean maybe stop having 630 and 830 starts and just be normal and start at 7pm and you will get plenty of Manhattan workers who want to go to the Garden to watch SJU play.

12pm Sunday games for suburban people with Sunday train times have to leave at an absurd time. And then depending on when the game ends it becomes a long day for 2 hour game.

Think we should only play games at MSG on days ending with day in it.
