Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

You know why when I say, this is the unhappiest I’ve been in a season, you know why?” Pitino said after his team stunned No. 15 Creighton, 80-66, at Madison Square Garden.

“It wasn’t because of that [Seton Hall] game, I was very calm at that press conference. It’s because of the state of college basketball. It’s not the game I’ve loved for 50 years, 48 years, whatever it may be.”

"“But fortunately for us, we’ve got Zuby [Ejiofor] and Brady [Dunlap] and Sim [Wilcher] and Glenn [Taylor] who are all going to come back and love St. John’s and love playing in this environment. But it’s difficult on everybody and I don’t like it personally at all. I just think it’s not the game I’ve cherished for so, so long.”"

So this time he mentions Taylor and omits Luis but all of his previous comments about the returning players has been the opposite

Pitino’s concerns about players transferring multiple times is legitimate.

it seems however that in this world of N$L that the issue of transferring by star players can be solved by simple multi-year contracts whereby the athlete agrees in consideration of the agreed sum of money that the athlete will remain at that college for the term of the agreement.

Also, if the current situation of unrestricted transfers continues then you should expect to see athletes transferring mid-season.

Otis, My Man!

The problem is we don't allow involuntary servitude, by that I mean employers cannot make employees work for them.

In a regular employment contract if an employee signs a 1 year contract, he or she can always leave before the end of 1 year.

In this context, the remedy for a school might be to try to prevent the athlete from playing elsewhere, but Courts disfavor non-competes. California outlawed non-competes a long time ago. A Court, for example, might allow the player to transfer if they pay back the money (coming from the other school, a "buy-out" to get talent to move.)

Courts can EF up a two-car funeral. What a Mess.

But pro athletes do allow this via a CBA.

No mention of Ruiz returning
