Convincing stuff
If Luis were willing to pass more I'd say let him play the point. He gets coast to coast fast.Watching him dribble on Sunday I tend to agree.
When he doesn't lose his dribble as well. Just bad ball handlers all around. If Luis were willing to pass more I'd say let him play the point. He gets coast to coast fast.
Let’s at least find out because we are 2-7 with Jenkins the last 9.Dingle would not be able to handle the PG position .
Would hate to see Macon gone as I believe he was a key contributor in the area of recruiting.I feel like there will be a staff shake up. If I had to guess Macon will be gone. This team lacks an Alpha. Jenkins reminds me of Dunn.
I do: we get less dribble penetration than any other team I’ve seen this year.During the transferring in and out of SJU last spring I read that one reason for the complete turnover was Pitino wanted players on the floor who were reasonably good shooters and last years SJU roster didn’t provide this. No one could argue with that fact.
The players transferring in appeared to all have decent shooting percentages with some players moving up in competition. For whatever reasons there hasn’t been any improvement this year in shooting skills and what has added to the futility is in many games the shooting gets worse as the game goes on with decent first half shooting, bad second half shooting and pathetic last three minute shooting.
I have no explanation.
Tough call cause technically the team is not out of it yet. Can they go on a 5 or 6 game run, maybe not but you can’t stop trying. Also what makes you think they will all be back next year anyway? At this point.....let's see more Wilcher, Dunlap, Luis and Zuby.
I say this because Dingle, Jenkins, Soriano and Ledlum are nice players but they are not the future. Unless they're going to make a deep NCAA run this year (spoiler alert: they're not), I vote for assessing the future.
A win Sunday would certainly be a relief, and welcomed. RP said they are going to run the table, so we will see. He is signaling that he wants to reverse the course. Will the players be able to?CRP has been at this for a very long time.
Now is not the time to cash your chips on this season and play for the future.
Great turnarounds often begin with the coach or manager. I'm old enough to remember Gil Hodges taking a long stroll to left field in 1969 to ask Cleon Jones if he was injured when he jogged after a ball that got by him. Jones said no, Hodges disagreed, telling Jones he must be injured and took him out on the spot. The Mets caught fire and Jones hit .340, and completed the most astonishing championship in baseball history.
Red Holzman had a lot of talent, but playing all star center Walt Bellamy and forward Willis Reed together wasn't working. He dealt Bellamy, moved Reed to center, and the forward acquired was the missing piece to a championship that brought the NBA to national prime time focus.
These aren't parallel examples, but It's on Pitino to turn this ship around. At this point we aren't quite certain whether Rick wears his frustration on his sleeves or if its a brand of motivation for his players. I only know one thing - winning is everything and we've lost 7 out of 9 games in the middle of the season.
A will to win starts at the head, and its up to Rick to get the most out of these guys. If this was CMA'S 5TH season he'd be headed towards the exits with this collapse.
I'm certainly not suggesting CRP is CMA, far from it actually. I am suggessting that winners win, and CRP is a proven winner.
A respectable finish is well within reach, so let's cut the effing excuses and let's win some games, starting Sunday at UBS.
Well Providence doesn’t have Bryce Hopkins and they seem to be outperforming us. Butler doesn’t have a stud. Plenty of teams will dance this year that don’t have a stud. I think most of us assumed Pitino would be immediately successful at both recruiting and coaching. Not sure which or both are to blame for our struggles this year but seems fair to be disappointed given the hype.Surprisingly I'm not feeling crushed by this loss.
Starved for success I believe we anointed Rick a savior, a magician, a basketball god who functioned way above all others. He would strike the stone with his staff and water would pour out in the desert. He would turn water into wine at Cana so the guests at the banquet could revel.
Then i hear the distant echoes of a great SJU coach who was stolen away for a paltry sum by UNC and who took a bunch of NYC players with him. "You coach, and I'll get the players", he challenged, "and I'll beat you every time!", taunted the great Frank McGuire.
So we in our glee of hiring the great Rick Pitino, assumed that Rick could coach all thess kids up, sift through the portal with an eye for gems, and have them playing together like the New York Philharmonic. It was never reality but we wanted so badly to believe it. Scientists have said that mana in the desert may likely have been the feces of insects. We ate it up.
Before you think this is smoke and mirrors, let me stop you right there. Rick csn coach as well as anyone, probably better than anyone. He can teach the same. He can snd will still outwork everyone. He is that good IMO.
I like our roster, i really do. What we are missing is a stud, a Tyler Kolek, a Bryce Hopkins, a Spencer, Clingan, or Karaban (to show you how good uconn is). I think we have a good supporting cast, not great but good. We are The Office without Steve Carell, MASH without Alan Alda, Seinfeld without Seinfeld. Good, but not good enough to watch.
So as Howie Rose likes to say ironically after wins "Put it in the books!" This team is just about done. Our magic number is 2 with 6 to go. Two more losses and the fat lady sings.
Can we go 5-1? Sure. Is it likely? When you root for the Mets, Jets, and St. John's you know the answer.
As Kenny Rogers sang "You got to know when to fold em, know when to walk away and knowbwhen to run."
I'll stick around till the patient dies but im ready to put the balls away.
Pitino says he played his ass off against Providence. Didn’t look any different to me and I suspect not to others. Goes to show we have no idea how hard he’s playing or practicing but are judging primarily by the results.Soriano looks disinterested with no sense of urgency and, frankly, lazy.
Subpar handle and no interest in passing. I’d rather have Zuby play the point. If Luis were willing to pass more I'd say let him play the point. He gets coast to coast fast.
