Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Mas, Van and Bob Walsh get a lot of assistant coach attention in media, but I think adding Taliek Brown, native NYC guy & highly respected by hoops community, is an overlooked quality member of the staff.

Rumor is Kranmars will forgive him for his “Pukon” transgression 😇

What really caught my eye was prior to the game he's literally in short and a tee shirt busting the team through workouts that he's doing as well. Then 10 minutes later he's in a suit on the bench. Breath of fresh air.

True. We both are graduates of St. John’s Prep., but it stinks that Brown, being the last high D1 basketball player to come out of SJP went to UConn of all places.

The other before him was a player I graduated with in 1988, Ram Fishburne who went to I think VCU (although it may not have been called that at the time).

Of course if you go to when it was Mater Christi, then you can talk about one of the best backcourts in NYC high school history, Vern Fleming and Tony “Red” Bruin.

It was a LOADED PG class that year for NYC with Cook and Barrett. Think we got the best one at the time.

Parents taught at SJP (and the former Mater Christi)- used to shoot around when i was a kid with Larry Jennings- went to St Joes -> Stonybrook.

Bryant Dunston was a Beast for Fordham... who i personally think could have been on some high major rosters as a reserve.

Like Moose, I too noticed in Charleston how active he was with players in pre-game drills.

Interestingly I went back to look at his stats as a senior. Played 30.5 min/game. Was 1-5 the whole season from 3. Year before 1-17 from 3. Shooting was not his forte but they didn't need it. Good player.

Maybe someone has a better memory than me, but I'm pretty sure Taliek was leaning towards SJU and Jarvis until Omar was snubbed by UNC and turned his attention to us.

We picked up Omar and Taliek verballed to Calhoun.

Yes it was. Unfortunately, while Cook was the most talented, he left after one year and the other two played all four years.

Jennings and Dunstin were after me, so they do not count.😉

And we discussed who your mom and dad are. Remember them fondly.

I believe Barrett first verballed for the Hall, a great class they had.
Then Taliek to ConnU and we were left out to dry.
Once Omar was snubbed by UNC we lucked out for a seasonb.

Good defender, ran the offense and stayed within his means.

I remember him committing to UCONN after Barret popped for the Hall and Omar had not made up his mind. A freshman Omar at UNC would have been a disaster and it has nothing to do with his talent.

He actually started a basketball skills academy after playing overseas and before becoming an assistant coach. I remember running into him once in the city with the gear on for the program. Here is an article on it.
