Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Very nice article written on Matt yesterday in the Post. I think he will thrive in the new role raising Nil funds and coordinating between the 3 NIL groups raising funds for the program. Best of luck to Matt. His success at raising funds will be directly linked to the teams success going forward.
Knowing Matt I am convinced he will be a great asset to the program.

Everything going around the program is amazing! Spoke with some folks at a bbq this weekend asking me about the Johnnies.

Ran into a transplanted New Yorker now living in Texas this morning while walking in Heckscher State Park. He saw my St. John’s T-shirt and we started talking about St. John’s. He is a huge fan, his father started taking him to games when he was younger and he continued going until he moved as an adult. He was stoked about the Pitino hire and has been keeping up with all the goings on including the current freshman and the kid from Greece.

I was on a cruise this past week and met a UConn fan. He thought hiring Pitino was huge for us and definitely does not want UCONN to leave the BE as it would be a huge mistake to do for a football program that would be middling at best every once in awhile in one of these Big 5 conferences.

Down in your part of the world for the annual vacation out east. Wife says I am not going directly to the East End, we are stopping at Woodbury Commons and sleeping near there because she needs a lot of time to shop or at least browse through every store. No problem , she books a hotel close by and picks a restaurant for dinner.
We go to the restaurant and it is a super orthodox restaurant in Monsey NY. I am in line waiting for our food and wearing an SJU Bball shirt. The Chasidic guy in front of me turns to me and starts to talk to me about SJU Bball with excitement. I say to myself if the Chassidim in NY are excited about SJU Bball something is really right with the program.

85 , I must have been real close to you last night. We stayed at the Marriott by the Courthouse in Islip. It is not far from that park you mentionnés. Damn I wish I would have known. Went to see a 90 year old lady who fell and broke a hip and is rehabilitating in Islip.

Not too surprising since college basketball is close to being a religion itself.

Yes you were very close to me. Send me a PM, maybe we can get together for a drink before you or a snack before you head back up North.

In my 55+ years as a Johnny fan, I have never witnessed this much press, ink and off season pub as this year. OKAY a new coach and all the transfer portal overhaul of our roster has something to do with it. BUT, the amount of positive publicity is off the charts. I don't know maybe under Buck Freeman or Frank Maguire or Joe Lapchick it got this good, but I don't think so.
