Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Rick Picasso on point all the time.

Notice the red face color on his watch dial (Rolex or Tag Heuer?)

Had the pleasure of meeting Coach Rick, Coach Taliek, Mike Cragg and John Diffley last evening. Each were gracious with their time, engaging and beaming with excitement. Rick was patient enough to speak to anyone and everyone, and I mean everyone who came up to him. My brother and I spoke with him for 3-4 minutes before he made his way to the signature table with the team. We left our conversation with him impressed that someone with his pedigree not only conversed with us, he gave us detail on early standouts, his expectations, and what he looked for in his kids.

Any details on the standouts?

“The day Pitino got the job, I figured everyone around the Big East grumbled. The man is working like a 30-year-old in his first gig, not a Hall of Famer who should be improving his putting game.” Dana O’Neil

Back with a new episode about Rick Pitino’s third major splash of the off-season. Chris Ledlum fills a major need for St. John’s and has them poised to be ranked preseason for the first time since 1999.

How does the Harvard transfer fit in with this roster, why did he leave Tennessee, and what can we expect from the plethora of options on Pitino’s roster in year 1? I’m joined by Thomas Cavanaugh to break it all down. I hope you enjoy!

Who are the coaches who took over programs that were not winners last year, but could be winners next year? Please give one Power Six, one mid-major, and a wild card. – Sidney T.

Rick Pitino seems to have done an amazing job retooling St. John’s roster. Thoughts on what we can expect to see from the Johnnies this year and in the next few years under Pitino? – Paul G.

Dana: I added Paul’s question here because this is the first name that jumps to mind. St. John’s has not garnered this much press since the ugly sweater era days of Lou Carnesseca. The day Pitino got the job, I figured everyone around the Big East grumbled. The man is working like a 30-year-old in his first gig, not a Hall of Famer who should be improving his putting game. So that’s my wild card.
