Rick’s Targets

I’m not expecting much the first year. I said many times in game threads…ready to sacrifice Storr and Gardiner to get rid of Anderson. Sad but true. It happened, we move forward, from my perspective.
The bottom line is Pitino could have eliminated the bad apples and worked with the team as it was plus some new additions. This team with better coaching would have won 5 or more games. It was the coaching that did them in

Agree & excuse my humor Beast
My fault if anything. I tend not to pause and miss the humor. I'm really frustrated by the lack of urgency at the university. Cragg arrived almost 5 years ago and immediately saw how bad our facilities are. Shanley is in his third year here and no strategic plan yet. Shanley is in his 60s and if he hopes to transform the university had better get a move on.

The role of major gift officer for athletics has been vacant for almost a year. While Shanley and Vaupel have together focused on the biggest donors the failure to fill this role leaves a lot of money on the table IMO.

If we are going to build a major basketball program (and university) it can't be done with the single hire of a high profile coach. Investment in a strong infrastructure is necessary to affect the heavy lift required to push men's basketball (and the university) into the upper eschelon.

Wasn't rebutting your posts, which i enjoy and are tremendously informative. Thanks

My next door neighbors kid Stewart Schwartzman is going to ST John’s next year.
He is going to major in Accounting. He was Susan Wagner HS 12th man but is 6-1 and still growing. His dad Ethan told me Pitino has reached out.

Worst case scenario we see how Rick’s Iona roster plus Soriano does in the Big East. 😮

If i had to guess what is happening (and again this is just a guess): Pitino met with Repole and brought him back into the fold, which is great, but from what we saw that was just one conversation. I feel like SJU hasn't really gotten their ducks in a row on the NIL side of things. We aren't competing with some of the money other schools are putting up.

With Dual out of the picture and Ledlum's visit considered mostly just a courtesy, we're looking at 0-3 on the 3 true impact players we've pursued that either visited or had visits planned.

There are currently no impact high major players that we are seriously in the running for. The guys we are currently closest on - Jenkins, Conway, Thomasson could be nice players but extremely hard to guarantee any of them would be anything better than role players at this level.

Portal entries are slowing down in a big way. There's maybe a couple decent named guys per day hitting the portal now compared to the couple dozen or so that were happening each day 1-2 weeks ago.

Meanwhile the rest of the Big East is not missing a beat. Cooley is putting together a solid squad at Georgetown already. English has done far better than expected retaining PC players and getting others, even beating us out for Dual. Xavier, Marquette, UConn, Creighton have strong rosters and/or are well positioned with some big names.

If somebody other than Pitino was coach people would jumping off the tower atop the D'Angelo Center. That's what stopping me from doing that right now but hard to confident that this return to national relevance is going to be immediate.

But some how Anderson was able to land two of the highest ranked recruits in the portal last year plus Gardener and a top Juco. He was also really close on the kid who ultimately went to UCLA.

Gotta say, reading this Board has been pretty depressing lately. I thought those days were behind us with the Pitino hiring. I’d say Pitino is off to as bad a start as could be.

Assuming we get 5 will be well coached
