Rick’s Targets

The one thing that gives me solice(aside from Rick being at the helm) is that none of the kids that we lost are very highly ranked in the portal rankings. In spite of the fact that some of you want to erect a statue of some of them. About the only player we couldn't afford to lose, Soriano, we were able to keep. Everyone else is replaceable by comparable or better talent IMO. Still wish we had kept a few more kids, but confident that when all is said and done, we'll be fielding a team that will be better then last years team by a fair amount.
I wanted Posh, Storr, and Gardner to stay big time, and Wusu, as much, because I love his lunch-pail work ethic. We don't know why the first 3 guys chose to leave, but as a few of us have said 'it is what it is' at this point, and we have the best college coach of his generation--huge ego intact!--working to revive Johnny hoops.
Let's go with that.

Correct and a roster of 13 D-1 players is better than a roster of 3 D-1 players.

I know you just like to argue to argue, especially with anyone that disagrees with you. So you can either skip my posts and say I told you so when Pitino signs some 4/5 star kids this year. Or we can go back and forth all day/night/week.

By the way my original point was that Dual is a must get (in my opinion) being the most highly talented player (in my opinion) that has setup a visit with us.
Have you seen him play? I haven't but am a bit skeptical because what I have read makes me believe he is a shooting guard that does not shoot very well. If you have other information please share. Please do not take this as an attack, I am asking the question with sincerity.

I have not seen him play but people that have feel that he has the potential to play in the NBA. Think he is a good fit for Pitino. He might be a total flop but only time will tell.

The cheap seats.

I watched Howdy Doody Time and the kids
sat in the cheap seats which they called the Peanut Gallery

Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring , Phineas T Bluster , Clarabell with the Water Bottle , etc

Coaches MCGuire , Lapchick , Carnesecca, Pitino all HOF Coaches . Lapchick as a player on a iconic team .

Bobby Knight respected Joe so much , he only addressed him as Mr. Lapchick or Coach .

The Sports Media in NY worshipped Joe and revolted when St John’s forced him to Retire . Which according to Kareem likely caused him to go to UCLA instead of St John’s … Kareem bonded with Joe as they were the big Men of their Day and understood the pressures that entailed in every day as well as BB life .

I did not root for a player to leave nor do I beg a player to stay.

My feeling is unlike say Providence where they had a coaching change after a very successful run, so it is natural after a run of success like they had their fans may want to keep the core of that team for the new coach as much as possible whereas SJU is not coming off a very successful run and FIRED their coach and the coach they hired is one of the best in the history game.

So my attitude is if Pitino felt keeping the whole roster that was eligible to come back is the best course then I am for it.

If he felt the entire roster needed to go and be replaced, guess what? I am for it. Or anything in between.

Call it blind faith or whatever. I'll take my chances with Pitino.

After years of F'n up coaching searches SJU got an incredible break. And 3 weeks in people are jumping off bridges because Walter Clayton went to Florida or because they offered Quinn Slazinski or because school X has 4 commits already...My God...

That is all.

Some of the folks on here need to chill out and "touch grass" (Some "grasses" may be more helpful than others)

The majority of this board overwhelmingly wanted Rick Pitino to be our head coach, and lo and behold, somehow the people in charge made that happen. We should be excited about this opportunity to be successful at a high level instead of reverting back to the assorted traumas that is St. John's basketball for the better part of the last 30 years.

Look, I too was hoping for more continuity in the program. I wanted to see what a handful of players on the roster would look like with better coaching and being surrounded by more players who can hit open shots, but for whatever reason that isn't happening, so we move on...

At first I was kind of disappointed that a bunch of these guys who've I've been rooting for the past few years won't be returning, but now I'm excited to see what kind of team we put together. If it's October and we still have a 3 man roster, then I'll be concerned, but for now we should all sit back, enjoy the process and let Pitino and his staff work their magic. There are still lots of visits to be made and there will be more guys entering the portal. I think a lot of us assumed Clayton was coming and that spooked a bunch of people, but I see nothing at all to get worked up about at this point.

One thing is certain, regardless of who's on this roster next season, this will be the best coached St. John's team in a very long time and it will only get better from there.

I was glued to Princess SummerFallWinterSpring. My first love. Lol.
Clara bell the clown on Howdy Doody was played by Bob Keesham who was Captain Kangaroo - another kids show circa 1950-60s

I like many of your posts 😊

Fordham take my advice and do what I do ignore the assholes on this forum!
They reek in negativity! I would love to know what they do for a living Because most have to much time on their hands!

Here is the other issue. Roster turnover at Kentucky and Duke where you swap out 5 top 10 kids for 5 top 10 kids is one thing. Overhauling entire roster without replacing them with superior talent…. Regular talent kids need time to jell.
Smart overhauled practically an entire roster, and the team went from 9th place to 5th place. As for a team filled with mid majors, in recent years there have been a number of mid major and D2 players who have made a huge impact in the Big East. Koleck is a prime example. If Rick adds a couple of high level players, and back fills the remainder of the roster with midmajor, D2, JC and high school kids, I trust he'll put a very competitive team on the floor next season.

As for your assertion that he "overplayed his hand", maybe he did but I don't think you can draw that conclusion until we see how roster shapes up, and how the team performs next season. You know that old saying about "the end justifying the means"?

This "overplaying his hand" observation is an attempt to diminish the judgment of coach Pitino by amateur armchair critics.
All indications about the St. John's program points to something being rotten at the core of our basketball philosophy.
It took a quarter century and SEVEN COACHES to get where we are now.
Instead, some perennial whiners don't have the patience because we are losing a team that could not shoot straight and couldn't make it to the NIT.

And ----CRP is also smart (sorry,) so stay cool and have a beer or two
.or a cool Nedicks OrangeDrink

We have so many things going for us that winning will be blase'
and the only thing will lose is the point spread but please no dumping.

You’re becoming Superman or should I say Superfan 😉😊🤣
Yeah Bama, I haven't been this enthused about the future of Johnny hoops in 25 years, thinking this time it'll be different than 1 or 2 blips of success and be a string of very successful years.
I 'get' nothing has happened yet, but I refuse to believe that Rick's tenure at St. John's will be the BUT on his career.
Man, talk about CURSES in that case, hey?!?.
But that ain't going to happen.
We'll be good, very good, and then one of the best high-major programs in the country before his 6-year contract is over.
That's at least my star-gazed 'take', lol.

He’s actually a Pg. No idea where Pitino sees him. He’s kinda in that Julius Hodge-type mold.
Shooting looks fine to me…

I hear what you're saying Rocket/72, but "questioning" does not always equate to "dimishing". Again, there are certain posters who have an agenda and who will look for any reason to "diminish" whatever Rick does here. The rest of us are ecstatic that he's here and questioning some of what we've seen so far. Don't conflate the 2 and keep in mind, as great as Rick is, he's not infallible.
