Rick’s Targets

Unbelievable! One recruit says no and RP is accused of failing miserably? And the answer is he failed because he didn’t bring back an 8th Place teams players? What a joke !
People need to realize that having RP as a coach you will by nature hear more bad news at times VS good. The reason is 2 fold, the first we will be in the running for high profile kids that would previously never would have considered SJU so each time they commit elsewhere it will be news; the second since RP was hired to a program that is considered a sleeping giant and this can be considered his redeem job back to the majors all eyes will be on him for his every move.

In the long run, you're probably right about making the program stronger. As I wrote earlier, there aren't many, if any, game coaches better than Pitino in the US.
I think many people , myself included , are disappointed Clayton jr did not follow Pitino here .
Who knows why he opted to go to Florida . I am sure Pitino is as disappointed as we fans are . Clayton was his star at Iona and naturally thought he would come here .

Never the less , there is Jenkins still out there and some other quality players still to commit . In Rick we trust .

Yeah he just couldn’t coach. He was actually good at identifying talent, he just couldn’t do much with it.

I just think judging Pitino off 3 weeks is nuts. Most of this board didn’t give a nut about Clayton a month ago, that’s what cracks me up. Again, because I quoted your post doesn’t mean I’m saying that towards you.
When you don't give a nut about a kid, and he spurns you, it sometimes stings even more then when you're spurned by a kid who you give a nut or two (that's all the nuts I have) about. It's kinda like getting spurned by an ugly broad.

In Rick we trust? He's not the God who's mentioned on our money. Rick is fallible. Rick's career numbers are far better than Looie's. I hope he's a success here. This site should be for some of us who point out the mistakes and hope he can go back to the drawing board.

Smoking weed and chasing college girls sounds like fun to me, 40 years later.
It's a different college world today. The weed is seedless sincemilla and 5 times the potency of the weed of our youth.
Because of its potency, you stand the risk of chasing anything that looks like a girl but it turns out to be a skinny cute guy drinking a Bud Light.
You drop out of school a week later and travel throughout Europe to "find yourself". 🚵🏃😎

The incoherency of your your posts never ceases to amaze me. I guess since you are unable to Dazzle us with your Brillance, you resort to attempting to Baffle us with your Bullshit!!!
Muted.

Ha Ha......

I would never mute you Sterling.

I know that every time someone mentions Posh it raises your amazement quotient. Perhaps you could tweet him and inquire why he chose to bolt.

Then again, you don't tweet, so you rely on the Twitter detectives here to do the research for you.
Here's a hint: they don't know shit either but they have special intuitive powers that gauge the trajectory of the program after just 3 weeks.

Ok I thought Clayton was a layup. Figured he was def coming. Didn’t even think he would be all BE or anything thought he would be efficient 14ppg scorer to compliment Soriano.
Time to move on though.
No matter what anyone says I predict we will definitely get 5 more kids to sign here before the season starts.

But since it's free agency, there will always be a coach/school willing to overpay for the services of a kid who fills a need. 360 D1 schools. All a kid needs is 1 school who desperately needs his services.
It's why the cost of producing a winner in college basketball is skyrocketing.

At SJU we have to:
1. Pay pitino. Does anyone know his salary for sure? 4 mm? 5mm? 6mm? At 6 years the commitment is between $24-36 mm. Before we pay his staff.

2. Pay off Anderson. Anywhere from 0-11mm.

3. Serious NIL support. Angel Reese on LSU and Caitlin Clark each made $1 million or more. I understand some UCONN women were getting near 7 figures. I don't think our entire team made anywhere close to $1 mm.

4. Facilities. I don't know what holding up the strategic plan, but the strategic plan is holding up facilities approval. Another massive life because in order to have top notch facilities for our athletes we must build a student athletic facility so students csn be moved out of tafner and ca.

We are off to a great start with new season ticket subscriptions but we need to keep that ball rolling. We need to fill a roster and while i know there is behind the scenes NIL stuff in process will it be too late for 2023-24 season.

There have been some really good insights posted here. The good thing is Pitino is well aware of what it will take, and I'm certain Father Shanley is aware what Rick needs to build a winner.

Interestingly the more pressing issues than basketball, but they’re all related. A change of culture is what Pitino wants.
Truth be told, we do need that. I
Hope he can help us build a sustainable future.

Cooley wouldn’t have moved if he didn’t already know what he could bring there with him. As good as he made Providence, I’m a big Cooley fan, that was a lateral move. Iona to St. John’s is not a lateral move.

I don’t know, when you shit on the entire roster, you can’t expect any of them to stay. I wasn’t exactly enamored with Pitino doing that. Would you bust your ass for some guy you just met who collectively took a crap on the entire roster? Like I said, he’s got a great reputation, best since I started supporting this team, but he’s got some work to do. Yes, partially his own undoing but also partially the perpetual losing we’ve done which maybe he underestimated.
Agreed, but usually when you shit on the roster as hard as he did you have a plan to back fill a la Deion Sanders. I don’t like it because first off as a fan you just like rooting for your team, especially the guys like Posh, Wusu, and big Joel, second it just seems like an ego trip run amok. If he was humbled at all by his exile to Greece, the 30M dollar bag we dropped on him brought the braggart back in full force:

does anyone have any confirmation on these numbers. I know there is a high top end. Master P’s kid and Bronny announced their big deals, but that was more for the celebrity than the athletics. (Top end also seems to include your athlete/tiktok star. It’s a good time to be athletic twins) I can’t imagine anyone outside of a select few getting six figure+ deals. But the few that do really cash in. Guess we will know when the players skip the team bus and drive their lambos to the game.

5 productive players 😉

I thought Rick's contract was said to be
$4.5mm for 6 years, plus maybe incentives but not sur on 5hat.

Today's coaches? Do you mean coaches like 73 year old Jim Larranaga or the young Houston coach Kelvin Sampson or Brian Dutcher of SD State?
Those are over age 60 coaches whose teams were in the Sweet 16.

Don't join the few malcontents here who, after 3 weeks, are already questioning Rick Pitino's judgment without knowing what has, or is, going on with players.

The University of Florida saw 8 players depart with 5 entering the portal. Did Todd Golden jettison those 5 players? Who cares? Kids look out for themselves and the NIL has nothing to do with kissing ass but negotiating a salary to play for a college.

What makes it so hard to accept that Van Macon, who recruited these kids, may have had an influence in the departure of players?

If Rick Pitino had never mentioned the "need to replace 6-8 players" and Pinzon, Curbelo, Posh, Wusu, Jones and King entered the portal, as did the 5 at Florida,
what would your opinion be on those players???
Do you think the hundreds of players should be held harmless if they transfer from a school that gave them a scholarship, an NIL, and an educational opportunity?
According to the current modus operandi, the answer is YES.
But in St. John's case we seem to be conditioned to have to kiss ass to retain "average" college players, almost none of whom, will ever play for an NBA team.
How ironic that some who demanded radical change are now back peddling to try to convince themselves that just because Rick Pitino was hired that Posh, Jones, Wusu, Curbelo would miraculously meld into a sweet 16 team.
It was all Mike Anderson!
Hogwash!
The problem isn’t Pitino…it’s St. John’s. We just don’t compare to Miami, San Diego St. or Florida. We are about to find out what happens when an unstoppable object (Pitino) meets an immovable force (St. John’s).

There were definitely some malcontents, but IMO he should have been able to salvage at least 6 kids. Had that happened, there would be a lot less restlessness on this board right now.
I don’t believe anyone, from Shandy on down, were interested in “salvaging” anyone other than the players mentioned at the press conference. Keeping some players, yes, but not under the circumstances that existed under CMA. Players were offered conditions to return and they decided to not accept them.
I believe the decision to potentially jettison most of the players was made before and then in conjunction with the Pitino hiring. I also believe the witnessed practice in February was very eye opening as to the obvious dysfunction within the program. I am certainly not saying anything you don’t know but chemistry and commitment count big time.

Pitino jettisoned the players because he was told about the internal circumstances. Not one player listened to Anderson in the huddles. Not that I can blame them.
It is done and the culture will be different because of it. There will be no lingering disfunction of last years squad. The players who were offered a spot. Left because they were not willing to work within the new regimes expectations.
