Rick’s Targets

Simeon Wilcher is a Johnnie! A monumental day for the Red Storm that, as Zach Braziller of the NY Post said signifies, the team in Queens is a national program under Rick Pitino. Wilcher is the highest rated recruit since Rysheed Jordan and it's another monster splash for St. John's.

Zach joins me on the pod to discuss this huge commitment.

Why would PF be a question mark ? You do know that no one in college basketball plays 2 bigs at the same time anymore , just look at the last 5 champions .

Uconn- Karaban 6’8 on a good day
Kansas- Braun 6’7
Baylor - Vital 6’5
Virginia - Hunter 6’8
Pascal- 6-5
It is a question because we have no idea who the starting 4 is going to be.

Paschal and Vital were both 250+ and those types have always been around. Braun was a wing on a Kansas team that usually went 6’5 6’6 6’8 at the 2-4 spots with 6’10 265 McCormick as an absolute monster at center.

I’m sure Pitino will play based on matchups and situations. If we can hurt smaller teams with Zuby more than they hurt us with their smaller 4, then he’ll play. A 4 like Karaban would be great for us.

Karaban is excellent. Slazinski is in some ways similar, but not as good mixing it up down low with post moves and not as quick trigger on offense. We will rotate a bit more mix if players, I’m hoping traore will also become a serviceable option at least a bit.

If go by what has been written and read between lines of what it may have taken to get certain kids:
Soriano, Ejofor, Luis, Dingle, Wilcher
Alleyne 6th man
Slaz, Taylor, Dunlap & Jenkins 7-10 in no order

This exalting of Luis is so bizarre to me. I can’t imagine a situation where Luis starts at the three over Alleyne, Taylor, and Wilcher. If he’s seeing even 15 mins then he’s playing a lot of 4. I’m not even convinced he’s beating out Sadiku by Christmas.

I think he’s someone who will really take off as a junior. We’re talking about a kid who played just 22 minutes and started only 10 games for the 13th place A-10 team and struggled with turnovers.

If QS gets hurt he will play a lot of 4. That’s about his only path to 20 minutes.

I think Luis is loaded with talent but I agree, Alleyne and Taylor Jr. get minutes ahead of him for now. He’s going to be a real talent though. I see about 10-15 per game for him as is, unless he blows through those boundaries. I also love how even in Wilcher’s commit, Pitino doesn’t promise PT/roles exactly either. Lets them know his he wants to use them but aside from that, no promises.

Never saw Luis or Taylor play same as most on here. I think Alleyne comes off bench but probably plays the 3rd most minutes behind Dingle and Soriano.

Reading the comments on this Post is hilarious. We have a Hall of Fame Coach who in less than two months, has put together a roster beyond our expectations. Instead of sitting back and enjoying the process of Coach Pitino putting all the pieces together, posters are already saying who should start, who should get how many minutes, who ain't gonna play, etc. What makes this ridiculous is that a lot on this board, myself included, have not seen most of the newcomers play for any extended period of time, LMAO.

As for myself, I'm just gonna relax and let Pitino do what he do!!!!

No offense but then what is the point of this forum?
I have no idea what lineup will look like. Unlike every coach we have ever had including Louie we now have a coach that I have complete confidence will play who should play. Still passes the time speculating on it though.

I thought the blowing up team strategy was aggressive. Mostly because I didn’t think Pitino really understood just how bad a situation ST John’s has been for last 30 years. In the end the power of Pitino was greater than the suck of ST John’s. The debating about rotations and lineups is just what fans do in offseason.

yea sometimes it feels like some would be in favor of the site just going dark during the offseason since we aren't allowed to speculate about anything with the team

I don't think that you and Larry Wright comprehended my post. Posting about players most have never seen just does not make sense to me. Maybe due to me being 75 years old today, I don't worry about things that I don't have control over. If I had seen most of our new additions pkay, then I would be able to give my opinion. Simply stated, Pitino is the coach, I am a fan. He coaches and I root for St Johns.

No more posting today, time to enjoy my Birthday with my wife and granddaughter.

Literally was just writing the same thing. To say with certainty (and thats how it comes across by some here) that this guy is definitely getting this many minutes and some guys 0 is impossible to base it off of last years stats and not seeing these guys play at all. Thats not speculating. Speculate to me is I think jenkins based off this, I think slasinski.......

I think its fun to speculate on the lineups etc

But to me the only 2 certains are soriano and dingle. (And yes as a gambler and betting penn games I have seen dingle play and a couple of the other new ones) Then the rest of the chips will fall as they do and it will be in a good way whoever it is. Taylor? Alleyne? Zuby? Luis? Whoever they are we are gonna root our butts off for them as we have something special now!!

As always, Panther knows what he knows and knows what he doesn't know, and trusts in Pitino. We should all follow Panther's lead and let this all play out. A HoF coach doesn't come around too often, for me, I am looking forward to a wild ride and when we are a third of the way into the BE regular season we'll know what we have and who's who and what's what.

No I hear what you are saying for sure, but I guess we just have differing perspectives on what offseason talk on a message board should look like.

Even if I haven't seen a lot of these guys play, it is still fun to speculate how the roster could fit and how the minutes could be distributed. Just like its fun for people to talk about what our record and postseason could look like. It is all speculation of course, usually none of us end up right about anything... but it is largely harmless IMO

Enjoy your birthday tho Panther hope you have a great one

If we shouldn’t speculate on stuff based on stats, projections or the ever popular hi light reels, then why are we so happy with the incoming talent? It is true we have never seen most of these kids but if speculation on pt is inappropriate, then why are we so excited about these same kids we have never seen?
