Rick’s Targets

Reading the comments on this Post is hilarious. We have a Hall of Fame Coach who in less than two months, has put together a roster beyond our expectations. Instead of sitting back and enjoying the process of Coach Pitino putting all the pieces together, posters are already saying who should start, who should get how many minutes, who ain't gonna play, etc. What makes this ridiculous is that a lot on this board, myself included, have not seen most of the newcomers play for any extended period of time, LMAO.

As for myself, I'm just gonna relax and let Pitino do what he do!!!!
This is without a doubt the most sensible post on the speculation of who is going to play where , how many minutes , blah, blah .

Pitino picked all these Players for a reason . He’s a HOF Coach that arguably sits within the top level of all time BB Coaches .

He’s Coached in the NBA , College and Greece . He knows exactly what talents his players have and what he plans for each of them . None of his Recruits were brought here to be role players . He has that already figured out .

How he uses them , in what combinations , etc is what he will figure out . I expect all his guys to get decent minutes . It’s doubtful there will be any unhappy players .

Injuries may affect PT but , hopefully doesn’t happen . Poor Academics ? Again not likely . Discipline ? Not a issue .

Rapt attention at timeouts ? Unquestionable !

Is there anything more ?

First, Happy Birthday Sterling!

Please don't underestimate the depths that some St. John's basketball addicts will go to evaluate new players. There are likely a few that have gone back to every game the new players have played and looked at fg shooting percentages, etc. ,looked at game clips and read news summaries of every game.

I dare say, some junkies here may have seen more clips than some assistant coaches.

Now, wait for this board to explode at the announcement of who Wilcher knocks off the roster!😛

Happy birhtday, Panther, and best wishes for many more healthy ones! I turned 76 two months ago, so you're somewhat of a yougster to me. I think you'll agree that some good things come with age -- like having memories of some great players and great games, which you often share with us. I have no idea what the upcoming season holds, but am eagerly looking to enjoying it and having Rick Pitino at the helm -- and to reading your comments on it. Enjoy the day!

Happy big birthday Panther - enjoy your day! I turn 71 on Sunday so we are fellow Geminis. Very thankful to be in my 70s and still relatively healthy. My wife would say I'm older but not necessarily wiser, but you can't have everything.

All this birthday and age talk makes me wonder how well I could speculate the age of each poster on here. I’m afraid I’d offend somebody.

Some guys who definitely wouldn’t mind:
Marillac - going with 44. Thats a fullback number which is essentially a power forward with cleats.
Jack - 25? Hold on to the mid 20s!
Larry - a young 50
Fizzy - humor + references makes me think older, but comitment to wanting to be known as the funny guy seems younger. I’m going with 49.
Rocket - 73. The first name usage.
Kranmars - 58. Guys got his principles but still willing to adapt.

Please step up to the booth

Simeon Wilcher is a Johnnie! A monumental day for the Red Storm that, as Zach Braziller of the NY Post said signifies, the team in Queens is a national program under Rick Pitino. Wilcher is the highest rated recruit since Rysheed Jordan and it's another monster splash for St. John's.

Zach joins me on the pod to discuss this huge commitment.

It’s interesting when Dave says would these kids know about Rick Pitno in his heyday but some people ignore Rick last NBA player is a superstar in the league right now (Donovan Mitchell). Shoutout to Zach for bringing that up.

Donovan who has multiple all star game appearances always speaks highly of coach Pitno.

I turned a very young 71 this past March 18th. BTW, I have to ask a mod to fix my birthday date on my bio, although I like the one that they arbitrarily gave me. ;)

Close. I am a principled and adaptable 53.

The roster RP has assembled has blown away my expectations too.

But come back to reality. This is college sports in 2023. Someone will be unhappy. Eventually someone will be ineligible. Pitino is not immune to this.

Minimize it and have a deep enough squad that we can absorb losses when they happen.

Don’t age me like that! I’ve been teasing my oldest sister for turning 43 recently, so I guess I was due.
