Rick’s Targets

“We came to St. John’s and we got a chance to meet Rick Pitino and the coaching staff, and we fell in love with them,” Ejiofor told The Post.

“Everything just felt right. … The whole coaching staff saw potential in me. I liked everything I heard, and I thought St. John’s would be a perfect fit having the opportunity to play on a big stage. [Sunday] night me and my family had a talk. We just felt Coach Pitino can get me to that next level.”

and to think some were against this hire. It was definitely the home run hire past hires were mistakenly claimed to be.

I don't see how we are all so excited to get Zuby if he is only going to see very limited minutes as Soriano's caddy. Definitely see him getting time at the 4 especially when we need to go big and need strength up front.
I think Pitino is going to use him at the 4 and the 5. I think he plays a healthy amount. His rebounding at his size will be needed.

100% he will split time at both those spots. It gives us a bigger guy against matchups where we need a lot of muscle inside, as opposed to Slazinski who is much more of a stretch-4. Joel also can’t and shouldn’t play 40 minutes a game. Zuby will develop at center when Joel isn’t on the floor.

Beauty of this roster is that they also spaced out a lot of the ships so we have kids with varying years of eligibility. Will be lots of fun to watch how we recruit with a full year to do so and many more uncommitted HS kids. We are already in a position to “reload” not rebuild.

Kinda crazy for less than 2 months into his tenure. Mind boggling truthfully considering we now have a roster that is easily better than the one we had last year and will be quite competitive.

Just imagine what this team could look like with a full year of recruiting. Holy smokes.

Can someone help me. I know zany is big, strong, great athlete, Highly ranked and went to Kansas. I have watched video and it’s all dunks. What can we expect from him this year assuming he is starting 4? Not questioning the signing just legit wanna know what he will bring next year.
Nobody can say with certitude what will happen with any of these players until we see them play together. That said, what intrigued me about this signing is that Zuby fills a role, where at least on paper, SJU seems to have a void.

He looks to me like he could be a very good rim protector. In his Freshman year at Kansas he played just 5.2 minutes per game yet he averaged 0.6 blocks which translates to 3.0 blocks per game over 26 minutes of floor time. FYI the entire SJU team as a whole only averaged 3.7 blocks per game last year. I don't think we have had any block numbers close to that big in an individual player since Tariq Owens played with us.

Additionally his Freshman rebound numbers would project out to 8.5 boards per game over 26 minutes of floor time. That would put him only below Joel statistically as a rebounder on next year's team.

Of course the fact that he has three years of eligibility left is also very attractive and his upside seems quite high. He was already a relatively high recruit (top sixty) and over time Pitino very well might be able to develop him even further.

because he's a tank, a 6' 9" cut from stone machine, because he's a former 4* recruit, because he's a transfer from one of the most successful NCAA basketball programs over the past 30 years. How many years did we get overpowered by guys like Delgado, Dixon, Watson?

Think you misinterpreted my post. Was responding to a post that he would only back up Joel and meant if that was the case we all wouldn't be as excited as we are because I think most of us envision a bigger role for Zuby.

Well it is good thing no one jumped to conclusions when the roster was thin a few weeks ago and a few kids they were recruiting didn't ultimately commit....
Not to mention every school losses out on more recruits than they end up signing save for maybe Duke and one or two others (KU and UK) that target a very limited number of kids and focus all their efforts on those select few. Suspect they were feigning faux concern to fit their negative agenda but it's all good now even for the suddenly silent minority. :ROFLMAO:

Fair enough. I can't think of a better way to use that last scholarship. now if we can just get ALL of these players on campus without drama!
