Rick’s Targets

It would be a horrible look because a month ago Pitino raved about the kid. So what would’ve changed in a month that would not make Pitino look like a slimy guy who just says things to say it.

Drissa is close to Joel, he knows Ayo and the local kids, and still keeps us tied with Lutheran. He’s a great teammate, works hard and wants to get better. I know some might put the “MA stink” on him but Rick went out of his way to vouch for him and Joel so that should mean something.

I didn’t say push him out. Jesus Christ.

And seriously, what changed in a month?! We signed 11 players. I don’t think even Pitino saw that coming himself.

If you don’t think it is the coach’s absolute duty to have a talk about how a player figures into the future of the program then you and I fundamentally disagree. You have to provide the player with all the information so they can make an informed decision. It would be brutally unfair for a coach who doesn’t see a kid in his on-court plans to withhold that information.

“You’re an amazing kid. I want you to be a part of this program until you graduate but I want to be clear that I don’t see a realistic path for you to get minutes the next 2-3 years and it would be unfair of me to not tell you that. You offer so much thought in other areas. I just wanted to make sure you understood where I see things on the court so you could make the best decision for you and get a full buy in.”

Not: “we need the scholarship, pack your bags.”

The portal is closed and Drissa is not entered in it. He's not going anywhere.

An absolute clinic on how to restock a roster by a guy who would be in the hall of fame’s hall of fame.

Fill the depth with solid players who won’t scare anyone away and finish with studs.

I apologize to Coach for worrying at the 2-3 week mark. I thought our bad fortune might be too much for him.
I was alittle worried myself, but Rick wasnt.i.could picture him reading posts on here, and laughing at us. Saying stop worrying, I got this shit under control, you're watching an ace at work. Well damn he sure aced the restocking building huh. Smooth operator at work.

Agree entirely with your point and the mea culpa. Thought he'd start with a bang not end with it. But either way foolish of me to think he might not get it done after the original fine but uninspiring signings and losses. May not be the sexiest lineup ever but two all BE level performers who seem steady as rocks, and a bunch of quality potential contributors who will know their roles before the season starts put the team in excellent position. I'm sure one or two might disappoint vs. expectations but feel that back up plans are well set up and competing for a top 5 spot in BE and a win in the dance are not unrealistic at this point.

Let’s wait for a full season with competent coaching before we write Drissa’s obit. One of the greatest coaches ever welcomed him back. That’s tells me all I need to know about that young man
He's also low key important to the team. We need the end of the bench to be team-first and work hard in practice. Drissa and Ayo will absolutely provide that. We aren't playing 13 or even 11 guys per game

Can someone help me. I know zany is big, strong, great athlete, Highly ranked and went to Kansas. I have watched video and it’s all dunks. What can we expect from him this year assuming he is starting 4? Not questioning the signing just legit wanna know what he will bring next year.

I don't see him as the starting 4. I see him maybe getting minutes at the 4 but mostly as Soriano's backup this year while he continues to develop his raw offensive game. He offers value this year as a big that can be physical and rebound while scoring on dump offs and put backs.

Also as described, "high energy motor"....Although limited on offense, RP can work with that.

I don't see how we are all so excited to get Zuby if he is only going to see very limited minutes as Soriano's caddy. Definitely see him getting time at the 4 especially when we need to go big and need strength up front.

Yep I can see him getting some mins at the 4 when needed, the excitement for me comes in the fact that he fills the needed role of Soriano's backup this year while having super high upside and 3 years left for Pitino to develop that upside
