Rick’s Targets

But what does the amount of time it took for him to develop into a top player in the conference matter? It happened. And your argument is against players coming from that level. He's the proof against it. Along with Souley Boum and a billion other examples from last year.

I understand the genesis of your point. You want high major talent, but we've seen that can come from anywhere these days
With that said there are an equal number of mid-majors players that move up and do not succeed at a higher level. Mikey Dixon, David Caraher and Ian Steer to just name a few.

I do believe Pitino has a better eye for talent though but only time will tell.

Same argument
Not supposed to go by lists which is convenient considering our players are not high on or even on most.

Outside of Alleyne no one saw these kids play. Outside of Jenkins none of the current kids had stats that jumped out at you. Everybody using Soriano as measuring stick but he played at a local school that some of us at least saw a few times and basically averaged a double double there.

Again the point is this may work out ok because of the coach. But it may not. I am over the kids leaving and I have never said this won’t work but none of us can say with any valid argument that it will.

It is a basketball forum and I am just pointing out basketball issues. I am not bashing the kids and not anti mid major just not sure you can be as successful as we want with an all mid major roster even with Pitino.

Now keep taking shots that are not basketball related, though would prefer that one guy stop hitting on me.
Again, entertaining that YOU are lecturing me to not take shots that are not basketball related. Fair enough. But please follow your own advice too since it was you that took the first personal shot.

FWIW Ian steere came from nc state so would be used for the opposite theory.

Personally I think it’s simply a case by case thing. There’s guys who would do little at one school and conversely would do a lot at another school at the same competition level.

Clearly you have to see mine are done in jest
And honestly don’t mind the shots just pointing out the hypocrisy,it’s the off-season knock yourselves out🙂
And I am sure you are a very good grandparent and TonyIII is very lucky, it was a joke.

I am confused was Anderson a bad coach?
Would have liked to see what Pitino would do with Soriano, Storr, Posh and yes Jones.
Add players around that core.

Again I saw Iona play. I liked Clayton.
Ledlum I saw play in HS and would have liked to see him play here. Been consistent with that.

And again if don’t get Dingle who I will take a leap of faith on the roster is still short of BE talent IMO.

Get Dingle and I sit back and hope for best.
Excellent Paragraphing .

Mase we both know if this roster was compiled by pretty much any other coach this site would resemble the scene in the Movie Airplane when they tell the passengers they ran out of coffee.

I truly don’t think that would be the case if the roster is finished off with Dingle and Luis.

But no, I don’t think your that off base that many posters are giving a lot of leeway to Pitino. Which I also think is completely fair.

It's been a little while but I'm back with a new episode. The month of April was very busy for St. John's, as Rick Pitino deconstructed the old roster and started building his own.

Seven new players have joined three returnees and I think it's a good time to start learning about them all. Three spots remain open, plenty of rumors but for now I wanted to introduce the new faces, the type of player they have been and how their games will fit here with St. John's. I'm joined by Frank Molfetta, a few of you may know him from Twitter and the guy who hosts the twitter spaces, Frank's a good buddy of mine and I figured between the two of us we've been on top of all the news so lets chat a bit.

Hope you guys enjoy

Thanks for the Podcast. Finally had a few minutes to listen this morning. Looking forward to the next one when the roster is completed. Hopefully!

I think you’d want to space the floor as much as possible for Dingle, who is a dribble-heavy combo. Jenkins is best off the bounce so a good shooter at the 3 is big.

You could also run out Dingle-Alleyne-Taylor for 10-15 minutes. Taylor can pickup some of the slack with his slashing and ball-handling.

Alleyne was a 39% shooter from deep on almost 4 attempts per game over 3 seasons as a starter at Va Tech. Luis and Taylor have never played on good teams. I think it’s a little disrespectful to be looking past Alleyne. I think he’s clearly our second best player at this point, and I’m not sure how close it is after him.
Totally agree . Alleyne is very underrated . He’s going to be very valuable to our success next season .
