Rick’s Targets

If were going to have a good back and forth at least be honest, and stick to your guns... You've criticized every move since move one, don't come go all meek now!
Show a post where I said any kid we signed stunk. Said didn’t feel the players we signed were a clear upgrade over who we lost.

I don’t think I made it a secret I was disappointed that Storr left. But when roster was dismantled we all thought were getting Clayton and Ledlum. Then that blew up and I questioned if roster destruction was wise.

And then you were wrong because since we have landed Taylor Jr, Alleyne, Dunlap and maybe Dingle and Luis to follow… lol

You've disparaged the process from day one - dismantling team - players signed - players lost - players still under consideration, etc.

Again, would respect your position if you were consistent... A few posts back you criticized having a team of mid majors players... yet here you are disappointed we didn't land Clayton and Ledlum who were - wait for it - mid major players.

Saw Iona play
My main and really only criticism is replacing the whole team with Mid Major kids
If going to criticize at least read the post you are criticizing.

If you look at all our last 2 teams and where they transferred to with exception of Posh( and some could argue Butler) most have gone to mid majors. So we are not going down in class at all when you compare. But we have dynamically upgraded Coach which alone equates to 3-5 wins minimum!

I find the notion of being upset with "filling the roster" with mid major players a little ass-backwards. That's kinda the entire point of the transfer portal, allowing kids who potentially outgrow/outperform their mid-major role/location and pop for someplace bigger. Brighter lights, bigger stage...take a look around college basketball, so many mid-major guys were key pieces for tournament runs.

At the same time, thinking a player who played at a power 5 school is the only one who can help you in the transfer portal because he was wanted by a bigger school is fools gold. A mid major player who averaged 17 ppg 37+% from 3 etc...but plays for team X in middle America mid major university can be argued as proving it better than former 4 star on LSU who played 4 minutes a game over two years. People put way too much stock into things that don't translate in the transfer portal era.

I am confused was Anderson a bad coach?
Would have liked to see what Pitino would do with Soriano, Storr, Posh and yes Jones.
Add players around that core.

Again I saw Iona play. I liked Clayton.
Ledlum I saw play in HS and would have liked to see him play here. Been consistent with that.

And again if don’t get Dingle who I will take a leap of faith on the roster is still short of BE talent IMO.

Get Dingle and I sit back and hope for best.

Filling the roster?
It’s the whole roster

Exactly. Last season, Penn State made the finals of the B1G tournament and won a game in the NCAA tournament with starters who came from Bucknell, Drexel and Siena.

Until Boo was beaten

And outside of Norm, have I ever killed any other coach? So I am going to start doing it with my favorite coach???
I thought Lavin should have gotten an extension. Certainly wasn’t going to kill Chris Mullin. Heck I defend Jarvis.
Anderson got in my nerves but I certainly wasn’t his biggest detractor on here.

For the last time just thought whoever’s decision it was to totally dismantle the roster I thought was wrong.

If get Duke kid which seems unlikely I would totally admit to being wrong. Would also take leap with Dingle.

For the 100th time NOBODY dismantled the roster! Your false premise upon which you based all your arguments. RP just layed it out to our old players who were mediocre at best in his eyes (and mine) that he was looking for better players and they would have to earn their PT with much much improvement. Simple formula and that is what RP has done. You called him King Pitino as though his evaluation was faulty of both old players and his new recruits and his HOF rep was faulty. Did you read what Dunlaps father, a fellow college coach said about Pitino? You devalued his roster although it was far from complete. Seems like an attention grab to me because logic was so faulty. You’ve already been proven wrong .

I think starting wise it would be Dingle and Alleyne. Jenkins would back up Pg spot. Taylor Jr is a senior so he’d probs start at the 3. Luis has 3 years eligibility, Dunlap 4. Luis gets the nod and I expect some smaller lineups, with all our wings out there: Pitino won’t have a problem giving these guys the minutes they need. Lots of talent here.

Likely Jenkins-Dingle-Alleyne starting if we land Dingle IMO. Alleyne might be the most slept on transfer in the country. He backed up two NBA caliber wings and still commanded almost 20 mpg with 8 starts. He started for three years at Va Tech with impressive #s from deep. Alleyne is not great with the ball in his hand but Jenkins and Dingle are.

It will be a very nice problem to have.
Dingle is the key though. He adds 3-5 wins and solves basically every issue we have 1-3.

This is blatantly ridiculous.

The thing a lot of us ( well me anyway ) and I was talking with Happy about this today as he was saying how much the transfer portal is going to affect HS kids which I agree with. A high performing mid major older kid most likely will have bigger immediate impact than a good amount of HS kids. To SJUDave's point also that in a good amount of cases a high performing mid major transfer especially the older transfers they very well could be better than a power conference guy transfer who didnt get as much minutes. Doesn't mean it will always be the case but we all grew up with rankings of HS kids. Will be an interesting experiment for us SJU fans since we haven't really gone this route before

Kranmars I called you just now to get advice if I should break this up into 2 paragraphs but you didnt answer your cell

I’m on same page with that. Agree Alleyne is being a bit underrated and thing the same as your for the top 3. I also like some of our potential SF’s to slide into the sg spot at times as we will play a lot of wings if we bring Luis on too. We don’t have a heck of a lot at PF, even if we bring a guy like the UK kid in here so I def see us using all those wings. Slazinski actually a nice stretch Pf though who can keep teams honest outside but we need a bit more power up front.

Think you split those 3 guards up. Especially if Luis joins.
