Rick’s Targets

Seton Hall was apparently recruiting the Richards kid until they just got a commitment from a big kid from Santa Clara (doesn't seem like any high majors were after that kid, either, but he had better stats than Richards).

Keita may still be recovering from injury, so CRP probably doesn't want to be put into a position to rely on him this year for any extended minutes. Our expectations as a roster are higher than they were, so I think it makes sense to target a backup C.

Confirms that Keita and Drissa are practice players with limited short term upside, too.
Drissa is 6’8” and is it a backup for Joel. Keita was a project last year and that is before he missed the enough of the season with a shoulder injury to redshirt. Need one more person with size that can give you serviceable minutes at the 5.

Drissa and Keita have played so little that they are basically Freshman. You need a more experienced player to be a solid backup for Soriano. They don't have to be great but a smart basketball player with some Athleticism. If you have that I think you could be 6'8.

I mean is this guy better than Keita and Traore?
And if

we couldn’t have sold Stanley on 20 minutes a game?

Bringing in a "big" is a problem because Joel has established thet he is the center and will be getting 30 minutes per game so that limits those that would be interested. Alot of back ups transfer to get more minutes.

Stanley seemed like a good kid and a hard worker. Again, I’m skeptical that every kid who left was a bad apple, but I guess that ship has sailed.
Should be just as skeptical that every kid was pushed out.

I would have liked Stanley to stay but my thought is he wanted to transfer even before St. John’s had a new coach.

Very well could be. One would think that might have changed if Pitino were interested since he, like every other player on the roster, waited to meet with Pitino before transferring. But who knows.
