Rick’s Targets

I would think Pitino adds a bigger PF that can give some minutes at center. I’d be surprised to see him with 3 pure centers on the roster this year.
I thought the same thing but according to pitino himself today he wasn’t a a scoring guard a PF and a Center with the 3 spots.

I wonder if we couldn't play some twin towers with Soriano & Bandaogo if we put three shooters on the floor with them.

I think Bandaogo is only a sophomore? Maybe the pitch is development under Pitino, start in his senior year, and be closer to the Senagalese community in NYC (the largest in the country -- I say this because he mentioned wanting to be closer to his support system + his main reason for transferring was mental health. I have no inside info if those people are in NYC)

As he states in the Zags article he wants a big time scoring guard (Dingle) and power forward (Mgbako) and a back up center (Bandaogo???).

He clearly is targeting what he is looking for. I am not saying he lands 1, 2 or 3 but he clearly has a strategy.

It is why Pitino was the biggest recruit of the Spring for SJU.

I concur.

Looking forward, I hope (with a little less pessimism) that this is what it looks like during recruiting/transfer season moving forward. Multiple anticipated visits and the addition of quality pieces once it is all settled. I would still love to see us add a 5* this year, but that might need to wait for RP to prove himself once again. I am hoping to see a pattern of high numbers of recruits who visit and don't choose to play for Rick, but those that do being players we are all excited to see wearing the uniform.

And no doubt the kid was impressed with your paragraphs.😉
It probably was the straw that brought him to our Team . No doubt he had been following this site for a while .

Realizing if I could learn paragraphing , Pitino could teach him a lot more about BB .

Now if we get Dingle , a Penn graduate plus Dunlap we might have a All Brainiac BE Team .

I think that’s a important piece of Pitino’s criteria in choosing players, besides their being top level athletes is he doesn’t want Academic problems on his team

Really good 48 hours for us.

Schools that were after Glenn Taylor Jr. - Ohio State, Texas A&M, USC, Utah, Oklahoma State
Dunlap's final 5 - St. John's, UNC, Villanova, Nebraska, Penn State

These are high-major programs that we've beaten out. Pitino hasn't lost his fastball.

I should go offline for 5 days more often. Good to see the additions. Now I just have to figure out who this Dingle person is since there's no thread on him and I had to skip 30 pages in this thread to save my sanity.

keep in mind Bandaogo has transferred once already. He would have 2 years of eligibility tho assuming the COVID transfers who are forced to sit will get 6 years to play 5.
Didn’t see that he‘s played 3 years alread, 2 at Akron & transferred to Utah valley last year.
had best year by far last year at Utah.since he already used 1 “free” transfer
last summer & is not graduating, wouldn’t he need a waiver ?

Brave of you to admit you had never heard of Jordan Dingle while the vast majority here appear to have been scouting him since 7th grade.

Jordan Dingle was the Ivy league player of the year at Penn this past season. He is a 6' 3" shooting guard that averaged over 23 points a game during the 2022-2023 season, which was second best in the nation.

Jordan is the son of Dana Dingle who was a UMass starter for John Calipari's final four team in the mid nineties. Dana Dingle is currently the co-director of the NY Lightning a very successful Long Island based AAU program. The Lightning had both Posh and Dylan play for them before they moved on to play at SJU.

I still think there is a possibility that Rick lands Mgbako . Why ? I’ll tell you why .

Mackenzie is going to be a 1 and doner in all likelihood . Maybe top 10 pick in 24 NBA draft .

Why play in Bloomington or Lawrence or L’ville if you want Pro Scout attention every game .? NY and MSG is where you are on stage 24/7 .

Plus , since he’s a Jersey kid , his Parents could get to see him play every Home game and quite a few Away games too . Nova , SH , PC , UCONN , etc

Throw in the Pitino factor who would get the nod over Self and Woodson as a Player Developer and Mgbako fits on so many grounds . Please understand , Self and Woodson are not Chopped Liver but , they aren’t Rick Pitino .

I would give the same advice to Dingle also . In Rick , they should trust .

Forget Mgbako

I’m hoping Mgbako sees the opportunity here to be the big recruit that helps put this program back on the map instead of being just yet another Kansas kid. That paired with being closer to home, playing in the Garden and playing for the greatest coach in college hopefully sways him this way.
