Rick’s Targets

Yes Slazinski and Conway because that is what the reports say. And of course I have not seen them play.

How many recruits have you seen that you claim are not very good?
Saw Iona play 4 or 5 times.
Liked Clayton obviously and the big kid. White kid was hurt so never saw him.
Davis didn’t play much but liked him.
Not sure Jenkins game translates to better comp. I am not Rick Pitino but don’t see him being 2nd best player on competitive BE team. But since I am only stating my opinion don’t need to be Rick Pitino to state my opinion.

Nothing against VMI kid but you guys on here fall for the white 3 point shooting specialist every time. Never saw him play but his shot was pretty weird looking on that hi light video.

Starting to hate one of my favorite players of all time because of a poster’s username.
Now that makes me sad. Boo is one of our all time greats. If I had better technological skills I’d look into changing it to Christian La

Here is what I would say about the recruits. Alleyne is at worst a number 5 kid on a good Big East team, who was very good on three VT teams and was stuck behind a fabulous two guard at UCONN. Jenkins is a Div I level player. The big kid from Iona was good enough to get a scholarship from Louisville and Pitino liked both him and Davis enough to bring them to SJU.

Unless you don’t think Rick is a good judge of talent, you need to respect that.
I suspect Conway is mostly a good standstill shooter and situational player and there is always a role for that kind of player in a well structured offense

We need three more good Big East level players but still have time and I’ll choose to trust a hall of fame coach until he proves me wrong.

So perfect, Boo.

Monte , Picasso didn’t paint the Mona Lisa .
Leanardo daVinci . Surprised you missed that Jeopardy question .

But , Puccini was a better PG than Verdi .

Haven’t seen any of their names yet in the Portal . They want Millions .

Here's what I don't get; if you think Pitino is such a terrific hire, why do you seem so down on him? I was not thrilled with the CMA hire, and I made it known and I laid out all my reasons why. If I thought Anderson was the right hire, I would have stayed quiet and given him the time he needed to turn the program around. Rome wasn't built in a day, or a week or a month. I still think Rick reels in a few big fish, but even if he doesn't and even if we don't do well next season, I'm still 100% behind Rick.
I’m not down on him. Really I’m not. I’m a long suffering SJU fan who is impatient for change. I’m a bit of a pessimist by nature and my pessimism is exacerbated by what I’ve witnessed as a SJU fan for the past 25 years.

I’m also disappointed bc I frankly thought getting Pitino would immediately lead to our getting top recruits. And I believe we would have immediately gotten our share of studs had it not been for this NIL nonsense. The NIL stuff concerns me in particular bc as great a coach and recruiter as Pitino is, without NIL $ we are going to struggle to get players and without players we’re going to struggle to be successful.

I still think Pitino will bring us success but I no longer think it will be immediate nor am I as confident as I was when he was first hired.

That issue could be resolved within 24 hours, and then we'd know the majority of our starters would be proven Power starters, but if Glenn doesn't pop then I'd avoid this board tomorrow.
Key word "could be", how many times have we seen some post that "oh i think this guy will pop next week after the visit, then it doesn't happen.

I'll believe it when i see it

You saw them play 4 or 5 times and reviewed their games as well?

I think you watched some Iona games and those players, including the “white guy” were on the screen.

But hey, how am I going to argue with such deft scouting.

I mean we know for a fact he's announcing his decision tomorrow, I don't know what more to tell you than to reevaluate like 12-20 hours from now lol.

But 99% of the deft scouting on here is he is Rick Pitino.
Yes he is Rick Pitino, but looks like Rick Pitino not going to get the players Rick Pitino thought was going to get at least this season.

This is actually getting pretty sad. You guys get all worked up over the kids that probably would make a difference who we are linked to. Start convincing yourselves kids are coming then get all disappointed, followed by confusion on why kid wouldn’t want to play for Pitino. Followed immediately after by mandatory in Rick I trust.

I actually do agree that it is a step up that some of these kids are actually linked to us enough to turn us down.

I do not know that much about my fellow alum and I am biased. Among other things, however, General Custer was a very brave man - much more brave than I or us - who in his age of early 20s served nobly in the Civil War (Custer played a key role at the Battle of Gettysburg, preventing General J.E.B. Stuart from attacking Union troops, and later capturing Confederates fleeing south after the Union victory).
He like Pitino was/is not one dimensional - I laugh when people critique others (Custer, Pitino) when often those who critique are a lot less accomplished or able.
Comparable in part to those already critiquing our new HC Rick Pitino, a master but also imperfect, whose had his Little Big Horn upcomings.
G A Custer was not without flaws - he failed to recognize the overwhelming Sioux storm he was heading into on that fateful LBH day. But even those Native Americans recognized his talents and bravery.
Yes and they knew George Armstrong Custer as the Son of the Morning Star - excellent biography and interesting man.
Thank you -
All the best

West Point Class of 1861 - also fought at Antietam, Chancellorsville, Bull Run and other battles - facing not shirking his leadership duties. Yep, I’m biased. Forgive me.
As I said, I defer to you and Otis as you both are probably much more knowledgeable and learned as to this subject than I am.

I read more about WW II and tend to have more knowledge in that era than the 1800's. I promise to read more on this subject now that the little knowledge that I have has been challenged.

Being my love of history in general has been limited by my lack of the copious hours necessary to read it all and the voluminous tomes available, I could learn more. There's just so much to learn. I believe that all of us could learn more about everything but most of us just don't have the necessary time to do the proper research.

What I've read about Custer was that he was terribly overconfident about his situation at Little Big Horn and that cost him and his men their lives.

You seem upset by my diatribe. I apologize if I have offended you in any way. I will not take your response personally and I don't believe that you purposely meant to demean me in any way with your retort. At least I hope not. There's enough negative back and forth on this board as it is.

All the best. ;)
