Rick’s Targets

You made

You made all that up in your head. No one knows yet what will happen or how many wins St John’s will have next season under this coaching staff.
I made up that I don’t expect us to win more than 17 games? Hmm, ok. Of course nobody can predict with certainty how many games a team will win with certainty. But one can make educated guesses. We make predictions all the time on this site and I’ve never seen you post a criticism before.

It’s really not negativity or disloyalty to St. John’s to point out that a core of Soriano, Posh, Storr and Gardner would have been a solid foundation. Rick chose to go in another direction. When some of us bitched about it we were essentially told “The 4 and 5 star kids who are gonna flock here will make you forget ALL ABOUT last year’s team!”

Still waiting……

These arguments remind me of the ones I read during the early years of the Anderson era. Pitino is a much better coach but players win games. We’re not going to get it done with this level of recruits and barring a major surprise, I would not expect us to win more than 17 games or so next year
Agree on your Anderson statement. I was one who looked back at his previous rosters and said "unless he brings in at least the same level of talent as he had during his best years coaching, there's no way he's gonna win here (coaching up 2 and 3 star players) ". Now, having said that, why can't you wait until the roster is filled out before predicting how many wins we're going to have next season?

Sorry Boo, but you can’t on the one hand ask posters not to get personal and then respond to a post by calling someone “dude”.
The bottom line is we’ve got 5 spots to fill and if we fill them with 3 guys who are significant Big East contributors (I.e. as good or better than Jenkins) we will be absolutely fine next season. Way too early to judge our class.
I wish Posh had stayed too but neither you nor I know the dynamics behind his decision. If you don’t trust Pitino’s calls here not sure who you would trust.
You’re right, I should not have used the word “dude.” That was disrespectful. Point taken

I know it's a very minor detail, but it was actually Posh, Storr and Gardner who chose to go in a different direction.

Sounds more like a proclamation than an educated guess. I’d like to know what you base an educated guess on when there are multiple spots still open and players being recruited. In other words, it’s probably best to wait till the roster is full, and then you can go on what the recruiting sites say about each player’s rank.

i don’t look at it that way. Pitino has a history of coaching up players in a big way. We have a point guard who played for him for 3 years and a center who is a walking double double. That’s a heck of start for a coach who went to the finals and won with a supposed 3 star point guard, and the final four with a kid Fairfield wouldn’t take in transfer from Providence. So I’ll wait on 17 wins.

Another fair point, but I just don’t see things suddenly changing for us given how we’ve performed on the recruiting trail so far. I think all of us, including Pitino, underestimated how difficult it is to recruit at SJU in the age of NIL.

You guys are going to have a field day rubbing this in my face if I’m wrong and we land some studs. As I’ve said before, I’ll gladly eat crow in the unlikely event that happens.

In the interim, painful as it may be for some posters who want to bask in the light of their rose colored glasses, I’m going to call it like I see it.

With all due respect to you and NCJ, when did calling someone "Dude" become disrespectful? I can't keep up any more.
Well it was unnecessary and not particularly polite. Can we agree on that? It did nothing to support my argument and came off aggressive. It bugs me when posters do that to me so I’ll be the first to admit when I get a little carried away.

Ok, but staying with your NIL premise, wouldn't it be the same regardless of who the coach is here? In which case aren't we still way better off with Rick at the helm?

Maybe I’m just too old Monte but if you responded to one of my posts with “sorry dude” I wouldn’t take it too positively. Sorry NCJ or just sorry has a very different ring to me. Maybe just been away from NYC too long I guess.

Totally and completely. I think Pitino was a terrific hire! Not sure it’s his fault, but I did expect more immediate results on the recruiting front. I suspect he did as well.

When I’m spoken to I prefer not to be called dude, chief, stud, boss……if not disrespectful these terms are at least not helpful in promoting conversation.
Blessings 🙏🏻

We all agree that so far recruiting hasn't gone as well as we all hoped and expected.

We all agree that there's no better coach on this planet then Rick Pitino and it's nothing short of miraculous that he's now our coach.

So why are we still arguing?

In hindsight I get it NCJ, it's a bit on the dismissive side. It's also the context and tone in which its used.
