It means absolutely nothing if you don't seal the deal.

I'm as tired of moral victories as anyone else, but don't you think it at least indicates the staff has NIL lined up to eventually land a 5 star (which wasn't the case really since Lavin)? Don't get me wrong if we don't actually land any 5 stars then it's completely useless, but I don't believe the staff or Mgbako would waste their time if this wasn't a realistic possibility.

Hey, I'm glad that there's a possibility, if you want to be big time you got to go against big time schools, which means having big time money.
No other choice but to have NIL lined up.

If he goes to KU, I'm suppose to be happy and say Thank you taking a visit? Nah.

I agree, though in this case I'll give the staff some credit since this may be the closest we've been to a 5 star in nearly a decade (Briscoe during Lavin's final season). Under Mullin and Anderson I'm not even sure if we had any top 10 players come to campus. Hopefully this is an indication that the staff thinks they have a legit shot and aren't just hosting him for show.
Betting we did have a couple but we played against them, They were on other team

I love having Pitino as coach, but it’s time to close on some big fish IMO. Perhaps our NIL is far from what we thought. Maybe getting Repole back just made NIL average vs. non-existent rather than above avg as we thought. I hope we will have the talent to at least make NIT next yr.

I didn't say you are supposed to be happy, but I'd still view this particular situation as a positive overall for the program regardless of the outcome. To me it says they have the NIL to land basically anyone which definitely was not the case under the last couple coaches. Miss out on 5 stars 1-5 years from now? Then yeah, zero positives to be taken from that.

My fear is that NIL has gotten so out of control in the last yr & it will only get crazier, not more reasonable. Don’t see how 5 stars suddenly start coming. Pretty clear many top players don’t seek discipline, best coaches, etc. Whomever writes biggest check will win. We are not that kinda place & never will be. Don’t mean to be sobering but that’s my perception right now.

I don't think we need 5 star one and done players, generally championship teams don't have them. If we can host Mgbako then to me that implies the staff has the NIL available to land more realistic targets, which would be 4 stars who'd stay here for multiple years. That is what I hope happens.

I haven't been thrilled with recruiting during Pitino's 6-7 weeks, but them recruiting Mgbako should mean that the staff is just being picky in who they bring in. In other words, they have the potential to land anyone but are being selective in who they hand out the big bucks to. That's why for this particular Mgbako recruitment, I do think it's a positive development regardless of outcome.

There are almost no big fish left recruiting in the 11th hour, the staff a month or so in, with 93% of the top 150 gone and mostly transfers looking for a raise left. People need to understand that, but it doesn’t seem they do.

There are very few big fish now, and the sharks are all fighting over the scraps. To really land a big class, staff needs time to recruit and most of the class uncommitted.

We are certainly getting kids in and will land a competitive team I am sure, but by default it will be mostly transfers and maybe a big fish or two of whomever may decommit. Mgbako is a Duke decommit and one of the biggest fish out there, but not an easy guy to land. We can’t cast a wide net because not a lot of those fish out there.

Lame excuse. Cooley, English and Stoudemire, all first year coaches, have far outperformed us.

Some folks are just too reactionary and lack patience. I still think we'll field a decent squad in '23-'24, but you can't truly judge Pitino and his classes until the '24 class has graduated.

Before we say those coaches have outperformed us, can we at least play a few games?
Why can’t we? Now you’re going to tell me recruiting rankings and past performance don’t have any relevance?

Nobody knows for sure what’s going to happen next year but we can still make assessments about recruiting. You guys would be the first to tout our successes if we had an objectively prominent recruiting class. Why can’t you just admit we’re underperforming?
