Rick’s Targets

Amazing the jump in N$L payouts from 2022 to 2023. Makes you wonder how high can they go.

I am told by someone that is the president of an ACC N$L that Creighton is believed to have the best financed basketball N$L among the Big East schools.
Not bad for a small Catholic school located in the middle of nowhere.

Next year = fine because we have a terrific coach leading the way.
I could care less if we have no wins 2023-24 because you know we’re going to have a team of players who are well conditioned, listen to the coach and bust there butts every game. AND the coach makes sound in game decisions.
AND we are headed in a good direction = the only direction Rick Pitino knows where to lead his team to.
All the best
SS&G
Don’t disagree
Just as fan don’t know how many more throwaway years I can take

Pitino was supposed to overcome 20+ years of suction. He''s still relevant. On the other hand, I was expecting a Steve Lavinesque haul of top talent his first year here.

We're back to arguing whether Pitino bit off more than he could chew when he jettisoned our mainstays. If you say the guys Pitino brought in are better than the ones we lost, you have zero credibility. Some people will believe anything. There is no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. You heard it here first.
What a ridiculous statement!
You were expecting a bunch of top 100 kids out of high school, some of which were academically challenged, to be the cornerstone of Pitino's first class??
First off, there was no NIL scam back then. The transfer market required a player to sit out a year. There were no intra-league transfers.
Almost every top 100 high school player was committed the year before Pitino was hired.

You think Pitino jettisoned our "mainstays"?
Are Curbelo and Pinzon in that group?
What about King and Stanley?
How predictable were Wusu and Jones with the ball in their hands?

How "effective" was Posh as the point guard in running the offense?

Our "mainstays" didn't come even THIS CLOSE to sniffing a post season invitation. Rick Pitino was willing to give Posh and Storr the benefit of the doubt in the poorly structured team that you think was composed of better players than a team that isn't even fully assembled yet.
Do you realize that there are still FIVE open spots to fill?
Do you realize that there are still hundreds of players out there without offers. Some are former 4 and 5 star players looking for minutes and money.

Out of the cesspool of portal players Rick has to evaluate what players are willing to play team ball and what players just want $ and minutes regardless of the composition of the team.

Finally, some here still think that coed boobs, palm trees and the weather are deciding factors for these guys.
You are delusional!

If that was the case schools like Syracuse, Gonzaga, St. Bonaventure, Uconn, Seton Hall and tons of other schools would have to settle for unranked and 1 star players because their locations have no redeeming values.

Have some patience before you become a patient needing therapy for unrealistic expectations.

We just need to be realistic at this point. This is going to be BY FAR the weakest roster Rick has ever coached at the high major level regardless of who is signed before September.

I’m not convinced he’ll have a better roster than what he had at Iona last year.

I’m glad he’s our coach because I don’t think Anderson could win 3 conference games next year with this group — even if you added Thomason and two guys visiting now.

You’re lying if you say you did’t think we’d add a single top 100 recruit or top 25 transfer after Pitino was announced.

Here is my theory, based on zero real information because there is little to no transparency with NIL. On top of being in a one-bid league, Pitino knew that NIL was going to make the difficult job of getting any decent players to Iona impossible. SJU showed sincere interest and Pitino knew that his chances of surviving in college basketball in any relevant way were better at SJU than Iona. And given Pitino's fame and ability SJU realized the only chance of surviving in college basketball in any relevant way was to hire Pitino. A marriage that made so much sense it actually happened. And I think Pitino wanted some assurances that at SJU he would have a certain amount of NIL to work with. He coached this year - he had some idea what was going on with NIL (amounts), the guy has his contacts.

Now he is here and the most important recruiting period in the post portal era is upon us, Spring. And the bags of money inflated big-time. Again, no sources, just looking at where guys end up. This leaves Pitino/SJU having to keep grinding as the easy pickings are ending up out of the current budget. Eventually this game of musical chairs will end and SJU will have a full roster. Will it be a better roster? We will find out starting in November, but as has been pointed out, other than Storr the big money schools sure seem disinterested in the 2022-23 SJU team.

Going forward whether SJU can "afford" the highest priced talent is TBD. With all kinds of variables attached, but in my opinion, with a HOF celebrity coach, I like their shot if Pitino can deliver some real relevance and excitement on the court. There is money in this town, but we are into ROI around here.

I don't see this as an easy proposition as there is a chicken and the egg aspect. But I can't fathom any of the other coaching names that were floated other than Pitino having any chance.

Don't kid yourself; there is a lot of wealth in Omaha Nebraska. According to USA Today, Omaha is ranked eighth among the nation's 50 largest cities in both per-capita billionaires and Fortune 500 companies.

The economy of Omaha, Nebraska is linked to the city's status as a major commercial hub in the Midwestern United States since its founding in 1854. Dubbed the "Motor Mouth City" by The New York Times, Omaha is widely regarded as the telecommunications capital of the United States. The city's economy includes agriculture, food processing, insurance, transportation, healthcare and education. Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway has lived in Omaha all of his life, as have the ConAgra Foods, Union Pacific Railroad and Mutual of Omaha Companies, and Kiewit Corporation, all Fortune 500 corporations.

Even if Buffet didn't support Creighton NIL
,there are so many Buffet Millionaires in Nebraska that it's easy to fill the NIL.

Thanks for the enlightenment 😀

One would then wonder why Nebraska football is not doing better. Football is by far Nebraska's favorite sport.
I think this past year is the first year NIL was game changer and I think this year is the first year it’s become an all out frenzy where grad year low conference guys are getting insane 4-5 star money because schools seeing it as short term investment and honestly and this is just an absolute guess on my part I don’t think even Pitino saw this coming

WHAT!!! There's no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny? I call bull, unless I see it written in an unbiased newspaper like the NY Times.
Little Virgina wrote her letter to the Editor of the NY Telegram inquiring about Santa Claus . Not The NY Times .
