I think Polee liked SJU. The fact remains he was recruited over. He didnt know 3 players would not qualify. Unlike Nuri I dont blame him for transferring. Lavin has to go after the best talent available, regardless of where the are from. D LO, Phil, Amir,Gift and Dom dont seem homesick.
Polee's pops made a mistake. Polee was getting better. It was a slow process, but his NCAA game was his best. He showed flashes of greatness even though he was certainly raw. He would have gotten tons of run on this team ts year and building a fantastic career here instead of toiling. When kids are lead around by their parents who make these rash decisions, it rarely turns out well. Polee would have been in a great situation sticking it out, whether or not we brought in every kid we sought to bring in. If your kid is a talent, he will rise and scouts from everywhere will see that. The best programs have kids on the bench that are excellent and will get looks in the NBA. It's a mistake to assume that just because a kid doesn't play 40 minutes a game, that he's not getting enough exposure for scouts to figure out that he's good.
At the time DP made that decision it was supposedly due to his mother's recent illness from which she supposedly recovered from and hence the NCAA ruling he had to sit a year.
However, to be frank I think he made the right decision for his future last Spring when he saw Harkless and Sampson coming in. What I think irked his dad was the way Lavin was utilizing him. He started the games and was quickly pulled and not utilized for much of the game after starting. It was almost as if he started Polee as a 'courtesy' rather than starting his best and more experienced players. It sent the wrong message and the Polee family killed the messenger.
I cringe when I think of the Polee, Pelle, Lindsey, Gathers, Sampson fiascos. That would be a decent starting five on most college teams but they all failed the loyalty test.
That happens when your program has been in the toilet for ten years.
