Revamped Big East

I think it's more likely that a shell of the Big 12 invites Big East leftovers to them rather than the other way around.

Rutgers and Connecticut to ACC
West Virginia (along with Texas A&M) to SEC

Louisville, Cincinnati, South Florida, and TCU to Big 12

The basketball schools keep the Big East name. They won't know what the hell to do with it, but at least they have the name.

I'd love for the Big East to become a landing spot for football independents' olympic sports, but I can't see it happening.

Imagine if Texas decided to go independent, and was in the same basketball conference as Notre Dame and BYU, along with our soon to be orphaned seven catholic schools and Xavier.

I think you are pretty much spot on with how the football schools shake out.

I just can't see Texas going independent or BYU forgoing a football conference to be in a hoops only conference although, it would be great to have them.

I'm sorry, I was alluding to Football with SYR. As we found out BB matters little in this process. God save the Redmen !!

I hope you are correct, I'm starting to feel good about SJU post-expansion. Can't say the same for my UVA in the new ACC. We will never see daylight, Maybe I should give up my UVA season tixs and travel for more SJU games.

I hate Syracuse and Pitt for starting the destruction, but not the same feelings for Connecticut. At this point they are simply doing what they need to do. Bring Rutgers with you so we can all move on with our lives.

yukon, along with cuse, should not be played again.
ucla, dook, continue L'ville and we'll have a fine schedule.
PBR doesn't sell enough in nyc to take that big of a hit.

Oh the Big East will continue to exist. Just not the way most of you younger posters are used to. The Big East started as a Basketball Conference and I think we will return to our roots.......with a lot less undercurrent stress created by the philosophical differnces that were brought about by the two different camps (basketball/football). I think we will be fine.

I agree completely Frank and I see it playing out the way SJUFAN2 described it with 12-14 Basketball Schools most of which will be Catholic Universities. The league would be great just like the Big East was in the early 80s.

Dead on, we'll be the second best basketball conference in the country.
I'd take us over the SEC, Big 10, Pac 16 and whatever they call the combined leftover Big 12-Big East combo.

Maybe they should do away with all confrences and all become independants each making up their own schedule and having the ncaa pic who goes to the ncaa torney

Looking back, adding Penn St when they applied to the Big East nearly 30 years ago may have been the answer for long term survival of the league. They would have been the 10th member, have a huge alumni, kept the rivalry with Pitt, and allowed for a 12 team league after Va Tech and Miami joined. It may have kept these two schools as well as prevented the departures of BC and now Pitt and Syr.

Also the selfishness of ND which is being duplicated by Texas, by not sharing revenue. Had they joined full fledged along with Miami baseball then you would have had solidarity. Money grubbing Universities make me sick. Start worrying about finding jobs for your new graduates.

In an earlier post I said Syracuse was arrogant and condescending.......nothing proves that more loudly than Nancy Cantor and her AD Daryl Gross. That school has not been the same since they arrived. They are both capable of giving anyone near them a rash.

I hope Uconn succeeds in their quest to go to the ACC.......If you think BC has fallen onto obscure times you" ain't seen nothin yet"...........UCONN will fall into total obscurity. Basketball team that finished 9th in the big east last year, and a football team that is low mid-major at best.........bon voyage UCONN

Reminds me of Donna Shillelagh( as I call her)at Miami when she took them out of the Big East. Into the ACC and you're another Duke, wrong.

Don't forget about Notre Dame for that all bball conference.

The Big 10 has been too quiet during all of this carnage. I think they have ND in their crosshairs. And if it is not ND, rest assured there are other potent candidates. Dominos will continue to fall.

frank61, I hope you are right regarding the TV contract a disemboweled BEC could land, but I have my doubts - SERIOUS doubts. You are looking a big step down in contract value going from fb/bball to bball-only.

Those of you that think the All Catholic Conference will retain the recruiting clout of the old BEC are not smelling the coffee.

This is a very, very dire situation developing.

I believe you're overreacting.
Dire?
Look, this day has been coming for a long time.
Will the BE be as good as before?
Of course not, but the remaining schools will form a very formidable hoop conference.

(I only read the last post so might be missing something etc.)

We (SJU fans) will, as with most situations in this here life, survive and maybe even flourish after the dust settles. With a little patience. With a little perspective. Two virtues that I have to remind myself of.

It bothered me that the great Notre Dame was allowed to enter the BE sans football. Come on. Take a school across the board or forgetabouddit. So whether or not they stay who really cares.

Is Boston College happy, sleepy, dopey or what? They become part of the dearly departed. No?

Pitt was not an original member.

Syracuse, I cannot believe that Beheim was in favor of this move but whatever.

There are ample smallish, non-football schools remaining to wit: us, Villanova, G'town, Seton Hall, Providence, Marquette, DePaul...and other members are hardly big time football such as UConns, Louisvilles...what will West Virginia do?

Am I missing anyone?

The ACC will have its day of being the raided. Time and perspective if I can only remembe to call upon them.

all the best.
