Revamped Big East

The best case scenario IMO is to bring in as many Big 12 schools as possible. They are all good in football and BB. If additional schools are needed then Memphis and possibly UCF . I hope the BE learned their lesson . The y must be proactive and increase buyouts like the ACC did . Its make or break time.

I think the current big east schools should merge with the left over big 12 schools. After that, add a few bball-mainly schools like Xavier, Memphis, Temple and you have a really, really good bball league. You also still have a marketable conference, especially basketball-wise, where football is still supported, but basketball wags the dog. At a certain point, there's nowhere for these schools to go. Retaining a football playing big east, but one that that is not dominated by the threat of defection is the best case.

As it stands, the "super conferences" are eating their fill. They don't want schools like WVU, Rutgers, nova, Uconn etc. There are also a lot of big 12 schools that aren't going to make the super conference cut. Gotta filter out the ones that aren't going to be constantly pining to leave. I still want to run with the big dogs though.

To many teams in the same regions. Game times would overlap. When your done splitting the pot, you go home with a nickel. How would the other sports fit in? Right now the schools without football, plus Xavier and Butler would form a nice tight group hitting top markets. Why are more then 9 teams needed in hoops conference? If Nova jumps you might want another team from Philly. Why am I hearing about teams like Fordham, R.I., Bonnies. I'm thinking of something close to what we had in BE hoops.

If nova jumps?
Where to, the NFL?

what's your source for the WVU information? Why did they get declined ..... academics?

I dont think it really matters to SJU going forward, but good to know why the parts are moving the ways that they are .

Academics?
This is the SEC.
Have you met Joe Namath?

LMAO!!!!!!!

So basically we're saying we're married to someone -- in this case WVU, UConn, Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers (who cares?) and even Villanova -- who can't wait to dump us but can't find any takers. Very reassuring.

We have posters on this site that could be writers for Comedy Central

I have 3 friends in that exact situation

It is no coincidence that they also all SUCK in football. Villanova even sunk to a new low by losing to Monmouth!!
Uconn and Rutgers, both state schools managed to lose money in football and in West Virginia there were so many inter-married cousins at the football games that when they paged Mr. Jones 15,000 people stood up and went to the call booth! All these schools should drop football and join the basketball only conference that may come out of this cluster-fck of greed and backstabbing!

Posted on the Big East website, the following statement

" Our membership met this evening and we are committed as a conference to recruit top level BCS caliber institutions with strong athletic and academic histories and traditions. We have been approached by a number of such institutions and will pursue all of our options to make the BIG EAST Conference stronger than it has ever been in both basketball and football."

Blah, blah, blah ...

You can't take these presidents at their word. I mean of course they aren't going to tell him what their true intentions are.

If everyone is really committed (and I don't think Uconn & Rutgers are) then raise the exit fee to 20 million.

The remaining Big East schools may just not have another conference to go to anymore! The dominoes are not falling in their direction and expansion may be on hold in the foreseeable future in a couple of the major conferences if the Big-12 stays put. Syracuse and Pitt may have blinked by leaving the Big East for football because if the BE gets Army and Navy both those schools have as much football star-power, especially with the Army-Navy game. Adding the service academies would bring some integrity to the conference and a hell of a lot of patriotism:) Plus, St. John's can truly dominate in basketball! At least that is today ---- tomorrow Villanova may apply to the Big Ten and hope to host Penn State in its 11,000 seat stadium LOL!

Terrific. Hello geographic mess and piece of shit basketball programs!

So if the Big East stays together you think St. John's, Villanova, Uconn, Louisville , Marquette, Georgetown are not enough for basketball? In 3 years every one of those schools could be nationally rated and invited to the dance! The ACC would have Duke, UNC, PITT, Maryland and Syracuse. So what is the problem?? Additionally, two of the ACC schools will be coming off of football probation and God knows VaTech, Clemson and Florida State need investigation. Syracuse f'd up here big time and in the long run they will become New York's version of Boston College-----sucking at both football and basketball after Jim B. Retires!!!!

BTW, the ACC stretches now from Tallahassee to Syracuse! Not a warm traveling scenario for the Seminoles in either football or basketball!

UConn won't be here -- they'll be in the ACC.

Those other schools are fine. What I'm concerned with are the East Carolinas of the world infiltrating the conference.
