Reasonable Expectations for Steere

Was told today Ian Steere's first game will be Arizona, not Albany. Elibible after first semester. #sjubb
Oh, boy, get ready for a new round of "When's Steere going to be eligible?" posts.:( :p
Big question for me is when first semester officially ends and second one officially begins according to the NCAA. I remember posting that he should probably be eligible the second the last final of the semester ends. Last final is on the 18th. How late is the latest class at St. John's?

Last test on the schedule is Wed. the 18th from 7:10-9:10. If that's what the rule is we only missed it by 40 minutes

Game should have been a 9:30 PM start :p

I know it won't happen and we should beat Albany without him, but move the game to Thursday.
Would like for him to get one game on him before AZ.
Oh well.

I figure All-Big East after first game. If all goes well, a shot at the NBA all-star game in Feb.

It'll be interesting to see how many minutes Mike gives Steere in a tough game with Arizona. Steere will be rusty and Mike has to find a way to work him into the game. Mike's rotations from the bench worked well against W Virginia. Don't want to screw that up with a new guy in the teams biggest game so far.

I can see Steere getting maybe 5 mins a half in his first game.

That professor needs to move the test.

I'd tell everyone to pray for a blizzard, but then that could screw up the team's travel to the Bay Area. And just as importantly, screw up my travel plans to New York on the 22nd.

I don’t think Steere is gonna be rusty. He practices with this team every day. Sure he hasn’t played in a game in a while so he will shake the cobwebs a bit but he gives us a big, athletic body and a lot more talent with 5 more fouls. Even if Arizona is his first game, his size will be welcome because Roberts is thin and we can spread out some minutes.

Hasn’t played a real game in a year and some change. And practice isn’t the games. 2 different types of intensity. Don’t think he will play a lot. 8-12 mins.

Hopefully he played some pickup games at Taffner, and played at Ruckner, and west 4th vs. men.

Just because he hasn't play in college, he could have played real games vs. good competition.

Knowing the ncaa, that is probably against ncaa and he'd have to sit out the season.
So nm.

Maybe he is eligible for the 2nd half, which should be around 9:40 :silly:

Albany.

BTW, this is taking on "What channel is the game on" proportions. surprised Moose hasn't chimed in.B) :)
Is he eligible for the first half of the Albany game or just the second half? ;) :)
Did he get ejected for targeting in the second half of his only game at NCST?
I think better than Keita (any Keita) is reasonable.
Personally I’d take Sears over Keita

I honestly don’t think most have unreasonable expectations for Steere. He’s a big, athletic kid and our only center. Go out and hit the glass, use his body to defend, dunk some balls underneath. Hopefully he gets better with more time.

I'll limit my expectations because he hasn't played since highschool and he's starting against Arizona and the BE schedule. It would have been nice to have him available to play 1st semester vs lighter competition and let him get his sea legs. It's going to be tough to come back after such a long layoff against high competition.

Hardly the criterion for success. Hoping for better than 3 ppg, 2 rpg, 42% fga.
